Enemies who all have the same stats all act on the same init. If I try to do things individually, it gets complicated and messy and will slow things down a lot in a PBP game.

Technically, Erazmus, Jaed, and Artair are currently in squares that don't actually exist. But yes, you can retreat backwards so long as you tell me how far. If everybody retreats and the skeletons follow such that we need an actual map back there, I'll make one. The cramped entrance was an oversight on my part, so my bad.

No problem! What I'm thinking is just a one square retreat, so we can all gang up on the same enemy together. I don't think we will need more space than what's on the current map, unless group members have other ideas.

I like the idea of using the door to reduce the number of enemies we have to deal with at the same time. As I have the initiative I can shout the plan so all characters are aware.

Regarding the short sword (I just realized it is a short sword because I failed the check and I didn't read the spoiler) I'm sure Jaed will be happy to use it :) but someone will have to give it to him because he is not aware of it.

Kn(Religion): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15

Jaed was shocked by what he saw inside the crypt.
Oh, crap. Keep calm, we have to play it smart.

"Let them come to us! We can create a bottleneck using the door. And remember, use you blunt weapons on those skeletons." Jaed says as he gives a sad look at the short sword in his hand. "If only I could use my own advice."

I ready an attack in case an enemy gets close enough.

The skeletons merely look at Finnrick's stone before they madly dash towards the group at the door. Some of the skeletons in the back push at each other as the struggle to move closer to warm bodies of their prey, only to be blocked by others.

As they rush towards them, Jaed aims carefully and precisely strikes at one skeleton. Unfortunately, the blade seems to merely pass between the creature's rib cage, doing no damage. The skeletons then reach out to claw at the party, one at Etam and the other at Artair.

Etam AC 19: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Artair AC 19: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14

However both claws scrap harmlessly at the two's armor.

Party is up again.

Wait, just realised something: we can attack on diagonals, meaning that if we retreat 4 enemies can attack us. It might be better to stay as we are right now, but jaed moves south and runvald exchanges places with erazmus. sorry =P

'I was right. I am not happy I to be right this time.'

Good thinking, master Zandorias! Master Finnrick, if you seek to avenge your fellow animals, I believe these are the culprits! Etam shouts whilst blocking the skeleton's attack with his shield. He strikes back in full force:

Etam's warhammer smashes the skull of the skeleton in front of him as it crumples to the ground. Meanwhile Finnrick's rock goes bouncing harmlessly off the stone walls as he tries to avoid hitting any of his allies in the crowded space.

Millsy could move to where the dead skeleton used to be, but she may not want to (it'd also provoke and attack of opportunity. I also just realized that Jaed probably couldn't have hit anyone either. Oh well.

@Runvald: The problem with doing that is that if you move there you (and anyone that pushes forward) will be threatened by 4 skeletons each, whereas if we just let them come we will deal with only two at a time. I think the best tactical decision would be to gently move Erazmus out of the way, but feel free to ignore me.

MotW NPCs Definitely not a vampire Slides | Knowledge Checks

Erazmus withdraws from the action takes an action to withdraw and avoid an AoO, meaning no MM this round, preparing to blast the skeletons once he's out of danger. Meanwhile Runvald dodges a skeleton's swipe but loses his balance slightly, sending his punch wide. Jaed, not expecting Runvald's sudden movement, jerks his hand to the side to avoid hitting his ally, unfortunately also missing the skeleton.

Since Runvald didn't change his action, I'm assuming he still moved forward.

As the skeleton next to Etam swings sloppily at the warhammer wielding warrior, the other skeletons clack their teeth together in glee as Runvald moves towards them. They viciously tear into the drunk, quickly bringing him down as another skeleton moves to take his place and one of the skeletons in the back eagerly moves forward.

Runvald: 18 damage, so -5 HP. You die at -15 hp (- Con), and will have to make a DC 15 Con (DC10 + |HP|) check to stabilize or you slowly start bleeding out. See dying
Jaed: 6 damage

The party is up again. If everybody takes their action and we're just waiting on Jaed and Erazmus, I'll bot them. If botted, Erazmus would be magic missile-ing and Jaed would be attacking most likely.

Ouch... Sorry guys... Clearly I'm not the tactical genius of the group... Had I seen Etam's response, I probably would've changed my move. No worries, live and learn. I should be at - 4hp by my reckoning, though 14-18... Second roll is in case I'm wrong in my math...

@Finnrick: Millsy's bite does 1d4+1, I believe due to +1 Str. Also, just for future reference if it ever comes up, a bite attack counts as B/P/S.

@Jaed: You are correct. I managed to remember the cover vs Runvald, but when that became not needed, I forgot it for you. So you actually did not get hit.

Almost as one, both Millsy and Etam strike at the skeletons in front of them. Etam's fails to hit a vital spot but has enough force behind it to crumple the undead creature anyway and Millsy crushes the other skeleton's femur in her powerful jaws. The collapse of the two is so sudden that Artair and Jaed almost fall off balance as their weapons meet with only empty air. From his position in the pack, Erazmus points at the skeleton in the back, forcing it to be pummeled by unseen forces.

@Finnrick: Yup, you can indeed do that as a full round action.

Runvald continues to bleed out on the ground as the heroes attempt to stem off the ravenous claws of the undead. Distracted by his concern for his companion, Etam swings, almost missing but correcting the arc of his weapon enough to crush one more skeleton. Meanwhile luck continues to be against Finnrick and Artair as they come nowhere close to their foes. Millsy manages to scratch at her foe awkwardly around one corner, but it seems completely unfazed by her sharp claws.

Meanwhile Erazmus blasts another skeleton in the back. "Damnation, we're not even in the door yet and I'm almost out of my first level spells."

Though luck seems to be on its side, the awkward angle and Jaed's nimble nature have the first skeleton's attempts useless. The second skeleton fairs better, viciously clawing at the dwarven barbarian in front on him. While his misses a vital point, he still manages to take the man down. The last skeleton, eager for blood, rushes forward over the fallen dwarf.

This provokes attacks of opportunity from Millsy and Etam. To speed things up, I'll roll them.

Millsy Bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

Etam: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 Dead. Or re-dead.

It's eagerness proves to be its undoing as Etam knocks the skeleton's head off.

By my calculation, Artair is now at -1 HP and must also start rolling to stabilize. There are now 2 skeletons left, one of whom is quite injured. Party is up again.

Jaed:
You did not find any traps. Even with your correct perception bonus, which is more than a +1.

Jaed and Artair:
Not actually sure what Artair was looking for, so I'm assuming he was checking out the bodies.

The two bodies are badly mauled. It looks like they put up a fight, but were no match for their skeleton attackers. Since there are no weapons around, they most likely improvised or used their hands. From what remains of their faces, the two look terrified. Make a knowledge local check to ID the bodies.

The below is for Artair and Jaed only.

DC 15 Kn(Local):
It's Gerald and Varak. They were friends with the mayor. Like many of the townsfolk, they worked as woodcutters. Gerald was known as a bit of a flirt and a slight show-off. Varak was much quieter, preferring to go out on the river fishing while Gerald was off drinking at the Silvers.

Checking for hidden doors/passages would be part of your overall broad check of the room, so it'd just be one roll.

so, if I'm counting right, I'm still at 0hp, but stabilized?

Runvald sits on the floor, Well, that was one of the worst choices I've ever made... his head throbs and his Odyssey aches.

"My apologies, gentlemen, I appear to have overestimated my abilities in the face of these creatures. I'll do my best to perform better as move deeper into this awful place.

@DM Puppet Master: Ooops, that's the jet lag :)

"These poor fellows chose the wrong fight. Specially if you try to fight without weapons as they did."

"I think we all did that, master Bottle-kisser. Take your time to recover your energies. We will need them." Etam says. Shortly after, he moves inside, casting more light inside the crypt. He approaches the corpses, warhammer in hand. "Do any of you know them? Could they be from Kassen, or some nearby village?", he asks, whilst examining them more closely.

Can I roll now that I'm close to the bodies? And even if I don't have any ranks in the skill? In case I can:

“Yes, very attentive, master Artair.” Etam says only half listening to the dwarf. His eyes suddenly widen: “Wait. These are Gerald and Varak, the mayor's friends, are they not?” He pauses for a moment and says, in a darker tone: "Why were they here?”

Etam closes their eyelids and searches the bodies, looking for clues on what might have happened.

We haven't even taken two steps into this crypt and already we've already taken a beating, I don't know how long we can keep this up.

"Here Etam let me relight your shield, wouldn't want it going out when we need it most now would we."

Finnrick walks over and lightly touches Etam's sheild.

"And as for you Runvald, here, drink this for a change it might make you feel better." Finnrick says fishing a potion out of his pack and handing it to Runvald.

I am down to 1 CLW potion and no healing spells. What time of day is it?

MotW NPCs Definitely not a vampire Slides | Knowledge Checks

@Runvald: The last stabalization check you made was at -5 HP. We can just assume that Finnrick did the smart thing and healed you before Artair, so you'd be at 1 HP.

@Everybody/Etam: I just realized that I didn't explain untrained skills. Some skill checks you can't make untrained (See the skill pages to find out which), and knowledge skills are one of them. It doesn't matter too much for this/previous checks, and it's my bad for not explaining that. We'll just try to use untrained skills correctly going forward.

@Etam: Searching the bodies just shows you what Jaed and Artair have already found (feel free to read the spoiler above that they had).

@Finnrick: It's currently late afternoon/early evening.

"Maybe we should rest until tomorrow morning so people can recover. Although spending the night here may expose us to more risks. Artair, Runvald how do you feel? Do you people want to keep going or do you need some rest?"

M human Fighter 3 | HP 32/35 | AC21 FF18 T13 | CMB: +7 CMD: 20 | F +5 R +2 W +1 | Init +2 | Per +4

Something suddenly hits Etam: "There were three dead horses outside, but only two corpses here…could the third person be inside?"

"In any case, it might be a good moment to rest, if we can find a safe place outside and tightly lock the crypt's door so nothing comes out. If there is a third person inside, I doubt he or she is still alive…and there's only so much we can do with two men down."

"I vote we rest, it is getting latter and I grow tired and hungry. I know that Millsy could use a break as well."

I have seen too much death already today. I don't think that I could handle any more without time to meditate and reflect.
