Examining the four frames...
Northeast: circular frame, approximately five feet in diameter, and is constructed from agate stone
Northwest: triangular frame, six feet per side, point on the floor; it is carved from camphorwood.
Southwest: rectangular frame, three feet wide by seven feet tall, and covered with a silk curtain.
Southeast: pentagonal frame, five feet tall, and forged from cold iron.
As Harlan nears each frame, they fill with a shadowy murk that completely absorbs all light.

The inro is not locked, and by manipulating the segments along the guide strands, Heng easily opens the three compartments. Each contains a single, odd item: an empty silk worm cocoon in the lower compartment; two interlocking stone rings, one of yellow calcite and one of blue lapis lazuli, in the middle compartment; and three camphorwood beads on a cord ring in the upper compartment.
"Gates?" Heng says rubbing his scalp feverishly. "Interesting. There is silk and a stone ring and camphor wood like the objects found in the inro... a clue perhaps?"

Following Heng through the gate, you find yourselves transported into a nearly identical chamber. This one also has four opposing frames in the corners, though the shape and forms are different.
All four are circular, approximately five feet in diameter.
Northeast: Constructed of orange agate.
Northwest: Constructed of yellow amber.
Southwest: Constructed of green jade.
Southeast: Constructed of blue turquoise.

As Harlan and Skygni try to pass through the yellow gate, they are both shocked by black, life-draining energy.
Both take 1d4 ⇒ 3 temporary negative levels.
All four portals flicker with black energy for a moment, and you feel a chill permeate the air. Then, four incorporeal figures, vaguely humanoid in form, emerge. Cold points of light marking their eyes are their only stable feature.

In hindsight, I realize I should have split separate Con drain rolls for each hit... soaking up an 8 for each is a bit unfair.

Skygni's breath and Harlan's channeled power do not seem to faze the shadow wraith much. Kiyomi pierces the same foe with a string of arrows, and yet it remains manifest and hostile.
Parity steps over to aid Malinval, cutting his blade through the undead thrice, but only the last strike seems to take any toll.
