Bile Ratsear |

bile slings a magic rock at him

Vesa Redrida |

"Shoot, shoot, shoot nasty lizard-thing," Vesa sings to herself as arrows continue to fly.
Atk; Dam: 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 5 + 1 + 1 - 4 = 221d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Foul Vaghdra |

Foul calls on the protection of Hadregash and is anwered - suddenly limned in a flickering mottled green aura. So protected, she moves to Dogdog's side and places a blessing from her god upon the valiant maniac. She urges her battle-mates to further acts of carnage...
Swift action: Resistance Judgment - (The inquisitor is shielded by a flickering aura, gaining 2 points of energy resistance against one energy type - acid in this case)
Move action: to M9.
Standard Action: Cast shield of faith on Dogdog - +2 deflection bonus to AC for 2 minutes.
Free action: Yell.
"Ded the spitlizzard! Be making him into food! Snatch and catch and hit and pit! Riaarghhhh!

DM Kor |
Vesa sticks another arrow into the creature. It definitely looks hurt, but still seems to have some fight in it.
Over to Dogdog now to conclude Round 3.

DM Kor |
Dogdog stabs at the Freezor and narrow misses it. Dog leaps up and grabs a nice meaty mouthful of lizard meat.
Since the lizard is 5' up on the wall, there is no one to flank with. Ddog and Dog are beside each other. Its too bad Dogdog missed, because he could have prevented what is about to happen next :)

DM Kor |
Round 4
Group 1 - Big Bad Lizard
The lizards howls out in pain as it watches the wolf tear away some of its hide. Looking to be in poor shape, it scampers 5' up the wall out of melee range of the goblins. Its nostrils shudder yet again with the intake of air. A large crowd of goblins before it looks terrified as the Freezor breathes forth is acidic spray of mucus.
Gob1: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5
Gob2: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4
Gob3: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8
Gob4: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 2) = 7
Dogdog: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5
Dog: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 6) = 7
Foul: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 3) = 8
Quivrel: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 4) = 6
Vesa: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5
Reflex save DC 15 for half damage.
Fort save DC 15 if failed the Reflex save.

Round 4
Group 2 - Goblin Appetizers
Gob1: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Gob2: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Gob3: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Gob4: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Four goblins screaming in pain, quickly become two. One of which appears to be on death's doorstep (gob1). The other, runs for some cover (gob2).
The remaining crowd of goblins look somewhat relieved. They look at each other wondering what the heck to do next. A few look towards Vesa and Bile, the few goblins who brought missile weapons.
A goblin (gob12) underneath the lizard pulls out a rusty dagger and throws it straight up at the Freezor.
Dagger: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 3 + 1 = 18
Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1
The dagger narrowly misses the lizard's rib cage, and lands nearby.
Group 3 is up - Bile & Quivrel

Foul Vaghdra |

Reflex save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
If failed:
Fortitude save 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
[EDIT: Fantastic - failed the Reflex check AND the Fortitude check. What extra bad stuff happens DM Kor?]

[EDIT: Fantastic - failed the Reflex check AND the Fortitude check. What extra bad stuff happens DM Kor?]
Well it looks like you are not alone. I did jump ahead, as I should have made all of you roll the Fort save next round, as that is when the secondary effect comes into play. Let's just say this... the lizard looks to possibly be 1 hit (or 2 weak hits) away from death. You all have 1 round to act before the secondary effect comes into place. Unless Bile and Quivrel succeed where everyone else failed, and if no one can damage the lizard this round... well... best to go refer back to your little story about a TPK. Although, there is a still a goblin mook with a rusty dagger that could save the day?

Bile Ratsear |

seeing the dire nature of the situation, the always incorrigible Bile says "Come here, I heal one goblin. ONCE!" to his party. The nameless goblins will be shooed away.
He then takes his last magic stone and flings it at the beast. Truly this must be the heroic moment that will earn him the chief's praise.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
guess not.

Quivrel Licktoad |

Reflex 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Fort 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Oh dear. We still get saves against the secondary effect, don't we?
Quivrel shrieks in pain and fear and continues his hex assault on the beast in hopes the other Goblins will finish it off.
Hex to give -2 AC penalty again. DC 15 Will.
He's gotta fail a save sometime... Remember that even if he saves against Evil Eye, it still lasts 1 round.

DM Kor |

Oops... forgot about that. The goblin that threw his dagger would have hit then; but alas... Vesa's rain of sharp-pointy-death-sticks has come to save the day.

DM Kor |
Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
No sooner does Quivrel's magic take effect on the beast, when two arrows "thwap" into the back of its head.
The Freezor drops from the wall and hits the ground dead, gushing blood from its numerous wounds. There seems to be little celebrating though, as numerous goblins feel the burning effects of the acidic spittle and soon find themselves paralyzed and unable to move. One more of the goblins succumbs to the acid just before the added effect kicks in, and he topples to the ground dead gob1.
The few remaining goblins begin to inspect their wounds further and discuss their mighty battle. There's even mention of looting the frozen goblins, but after a minute passes the paralyzed goblins begin to regain their bodily functions.
We'll drop out of combat here. Everyone who failed does take additional damage, but this is the end of the chapter so I have not rolled it. Congrats on your success, and on avoiding a possible TPK :) Save rolls were clearly not in favor of the goblins this encounter! Note: the paralysis was a magical side-effect (I waffled a lot on this when designing the creature, but in the spirit of other magical beasts like the basilisk, I thought magic was the better way to go over poison) .

Bile Ratsear |

Bile will stabilize any gobbos that are on the brink, even the peons. Gotta keep the tribe strong.

Dogdog |

Seizing so hard against the paralysis, trying to fight back against his unresponsive limbs, Dogdog actually manages to fall over and shake ont he ground until he finally manages to start moving again.
As soon as he can, he springs into action again, savagely slashing and tearing at the dead lizard in an impressively thoughtless fury.
I can Rage if I want to! I just don't get stronger when I do it.

Bile Ratsear |

we can rage, we can rage if we want to, we can leave our friends behind...

Quivrel Licktoad |

When Quivrel falls over, Puddleby hops up on his chest. The superstitious Goblins give the familiar a wide berth. When he regains his limbs he thanks his Toad for guarding him and casts a healing spell on himself. He then goes over to the Freezor to examine it, cutting out a couple of its teeth to make a new fetish.

Bile Ratsear |

Bile too will try to take some teeth, some for keeps and some to give to the chief. Also cut open the cuts for treeeaaasurreessss

Foul Vaghdra |

When Foul regains the use of her limbs she looks askance at Quivrel [EDIT: and Bile], busily destroying "her prize". As soon as Quivrel [EDIT: and Bile] is [EDIT: are] finished Vaghdra decapitates the body and shoves the head, minus a few teeth, into her mouldy flea-bitten sack. Then she hacks off its feet to keep the claws, offering a foot each to Vesa, Dogdog and Bil [EDIT: not Bile!]
Vaghdra then sets about the serious business of eating the souls of the slain warriors (excepting any that have less than half her hit dice (perhaps) and those that had less than 2 Int (likely)). ;)

DM Kor |
The party makes a gruesome mess out of an already bloody scene.
The trophies are obtained, while Dogdog recklessly gores the lizard. During his savagery he slices apart the stomach sack which makes a low squishy "pop" noise. Corrosive acid splurts out at Dogdog, burning him even more severely. His last slash through the stomache hits something hard though. With Bile joining in to help, Dogdog tugs and pulls away at the hard object and removes a round, light, dragonhide and copper scaled shield of fine craftsmanship. It appears to be completely unharmed by the acidic juices it was enveloped with.

Foul Vaghdra |

Vaghdra's eyes again conform to steely slits as she considers the prize. Acid burnt as she is she is now sated from feeding on the souls of the dead. She steps up to Vesa and nonchalantly places Meatmaker on the shield. In a sly voice she croaks:
"Bile no want shield. Quivrel no want shield. Dog is shield and Dogdog has his mama, so him can't want shield. You no can shoot sticks with shield, so you no want shield? Vaghdra can hold shield to be wife to Meatmaker." The hint of menace is palpable, as the horrific little tyrant looks around her fellows "meaningfully". She turns back to Vesa, and utters without any sly hint but full purpose:
"Vaghdra want shield!"

Bile Ratsear |

"Bile no can use metal shield. Only wood shield."

Bile Ratsear |

unless the copper scaled part was scales that are from a copper dragon, rather than the actual metal copper. druids can't use metal but they can use dragonhide."

DM Kor |
unless the copper scaled part was scales that are from a copper dragon, rather than the actual metal copper. druids can't use metal but they can use dragonhide."
It is a dragonhide shield with scales from a copper dragon.

Bile Ratsear |

ah, in that case, Bile wants it.
"BILE want it. You want heal, Bile take it. Bile no can use regular shield. This one no metal, this one Bile can use."

Foul Vaghdra |

Instantly on hearing Bile's desire Vaghdra shrugs, her entire demeanour changing from mrnace to studied indifference.
"You want shield? You take shield. You no HEAL ennyway! You but big weak. Vaghdra HEAL and SMASH and EAT SOULS. Vaghdra not need shield. Hadregash Vagdra's shield and storm and fire and strength. Pfach!!!"
Like a good bully, Vaghdra is more bluster than bite. She stomps away, muttering.

Bile Ratsear |

"You no see Bile fight because Bile not dumb! Bile fight from other wall, hit it with magic stones and not get throw-up on!"
After he speaks his piece, Bile picks up the shield and gazes at it avariciously, picking it up and stroking the scales, tilting it this way and that to reflect the little available light.

Foul Vaghdra |

Vaghdra rolls her eyes and looks to the heavens.
"Bile say "you want Heal, give Bile shield." Vaghdra say "Bile not HEAL", not "Bile not FIGHT".
Vaghdra shrugs.
" You want shield, you have shield. Maybe it help you throw stones. Or maybe it help you live long-long to heal. Vaghdra waits."
Vaghdra takes a last long look about the spattered cavern before hefting her sack and Meatmaker and plodding off after Dogdog.

Bile Ratsear |

Bile follows the group.

DM Kor |
Presenting the Trophy
The battle worn group makes its way through the tunnels with several of the goblins carrying the Freezor's heavy head, high aloft.
Word spreads quickly through-out the tunnel system and soon it seems every subterranean living Musheater is following in tow. The parade of goblins greatly multiplies when they reach the surface.
Ornib greats the party with a look of amazement on his face. He quickly congratulates the goblins and leads them to the open clearing before the King-Chief's hut.
As the goblin heroes approach the clearing, a great cheer erupts as Chigg and the elder witchdoctor Tigrik exit the hut. The King-Chief looks quite proud and waves over the goblins holding the head, and instructs them to put it down in front of him.
Ornib begins rushing around frantically, talking to many goblins in the crowd, instructing them to begin preparations for a feast.
Chigg climbs atop the trophy and puts his hands up to silence the crowd. The leader extols his great gratitude for all of your involvements. He promises you much status and rewards for your great efforts and invites you all to return the next evening. Chigg then commands for the feast and festivities to begin.
What follows is a night of goblin games, gluttony and debauchery.

DM Kor |
The Next Big Task
After recovering from the prior night's activities the goblin heroes once again gather before the King-Chief hut and are permitted entry. This time, there are no guards inside... only Chigg and Tigrik.
Chigg looks to Tigrik and nods. Tigrik speaks, "Brave goblins, know of course that you have done a great deed for your tribe. But your tribe has even greater need of your talents now. We need you to obtain an item of great importance for our tribe, and it is a long ways away."
Tigrik pauses and looks at each goblin to ensure he has their full attention, "We will need you to travel many, many days through the Darklands until you reach a tribe of kobolds, the Singedtongues, which has the item we require. You will be provided with magic that will help conceal you in their presence and allow you to get close to the golden statue we call 'Mother'. It depicts a chubby, pregnant, female humanoid posed in a seated position."
Chigg then speaks, "Bring this back to us, and I name you all great heroes of the tribe, and give you titles and rewards appropriate."
Tirgrik resumes, "This mission will take you through treacherous and unknown areas of the Darklands. For this, Chigg will lend you gear from his stockpile. Speak now, your requests to Chigg."

Foul Vaghdra |

Foul Vaghdra steps forward humbly yet proud.
"Vaghdra priest of Hadregash now! She need powerful scale armor.
She need heap-big perfect-made Vile-flail to crush kobolds!
She need longspear so she not can't hit far away.
She need crossbow and sharpstix to fire."
The little monster bows so low her nose touches the floor.
"Great chief - give head of big spitlizzard to Vaghdra for to be helmet. Let Vaghdra make skin into armor for brave Dogdog and Dog!"

DM Kor |
Chigg snorts as he listens to Vaghdra's requests.
"Head of Freezor is Chigg's trophy to mount in Hut", he says while point up to all the various skulls of creatures suspended from his roof. "You take skin though. I will have goblins help you make armor from the beast, since you need to leave soon".
"We have several of those arrow throwing contraptions which the gnomes we donated to us."
"Them spears are plentiful, easily done!"
"I'm sure we can find a vile flail...", Chigg is interrupted by Tigrik who speaks softly into his ear. You hear part of Chigg's reply, "...oh I did not know he was dead. Pity, he was a fine priest."
Chigg looks back at Vaghdra, "we have a weapon you will certainly like. There is also a nice suit of armor a gnome left for us."
Chigg waves at Ornib and he goes to the back door of the Hut and disappears in the cave behind it. After several minutes he retrieves several items for Vaghdra.
"Make good use of these Vaghdra and bring them back unbroken if you can. May the Strength of Hadregash flow though your veins and guide you in this mission."

Bile Ratsear |

"Bile need magic papers for more spells just in case. Also magic sticks and magic drinks. Also maybe better armor if there is dragonscale left." Bile says, not trying to ask too much or too little.
scrolls, dragonscale armor, potions, wands

DM Kor |
Chigg listens to Bile's request and nods knowingly.
"I suppose we have some scrolls that could help?", Chigg replies while looking puzzled at Tigrik.
"We do. Also, there were some items from that tree-humping halfling which we finally ran through." Tigrik replies.
"Ah yes, I remember him. Him and those damn squirrels annoyed me, but he was a good source for information. Its too bad he was not willing to move out of our newly claimed territory", Chigg acknowledges.
"We might as well throw them an oaken stick too, they'll probably need it." Says Tigrik as he pulls a thick oak wand from a pouch and throws it Bile's way.
"Ornib will set you up with the rest, including that halfing's gear. Let him browse some of those scrolls," Chigg calls down to his assistant.
