Scarab Sages

So here we are..

I'd like to welcome you all to the game and hope you will have as much fun with it as I do.

We have one PbP beginner with us (Miss Lori) so I expect the rest off you to give her player the benefit of your experience in the medium.

As you can see I'll be using a new alias to GM this game..kudos to those who get the reference.

Please refer to the Campaign Info Page for further details of the Lottery .

Scarab Sages

Here's my suggestion as to how you all met.

Lori was a guard on the caravan that brought Max Stoutwick to Wati and it was from him that she discovered what was occurring there.Deciding that sticking together was the best policy they soon discovered that a knowledge of Ancient Osiriani would be essential to the explorations, so they were put in touch with Cerastes as someone with the necessary knowledge and could handle himself in a fight if need be.

Cerastes knowing the dangers inherent in the Necropolis contacted one of his many sources in the mercenary hiring business and that brought in Ra_Khefer...who was still somewhat confused at being alive when he knew he had been dead. Meanwhile the somewhat less confused but equally intrigued Inferis who had also been in the caravan, sort of invited herself along as an expert consultant on the undead and Max really didn't know how to say no.

Not forcing this on you just a suggestion.

Female Human Gunslinger 1

Sounds pretty cool to me. I'm all for meeting some of the party through my little guarding of the caravan.

here's a thought that I was wrestling with when creating Lori, I debating over having her die with the rest of the crew as well, and giving her the Resurrected trait instead, though she wouldn't have known it. Like a reward from Gozreh for being the only one that stood against the blaspheme of the ship's name. But I went with the Foreign Opportunist because that trait was a more driving force since Lori wouldn't know she was resurrected. So i dunno if you wanna spin that in somehow into the game at well, but it was a thought I had during her creation.

Male Halfling Bard (Archaeologist) 2

Sounds fine to me.

FYI Inferis, you still know the cantrips from your banned schools, they just cost 2 slots to prepare.

Scarab Sages

BTW Max you added where you should have subtracted on your perception and it should only be +5

There is stuff up in the game play thread already

Male Halfling Bard (Archaeologist) 2

k, fixed.

Female Human Gunslinger 1

is it to be assumed we've already applied and thus technically have a name? Should we argue over a name here or in the gampeplay? Either way, how about The Golden Phoenix for our name?

Scarab Sages

Male Human Oracle 3 HP 26/26 | AC:19 F:+1 R:+2 W:+3 | Init: +7 (Roll twice take better result) | Speed: 20 | Percep. +5 |

That background for how we met sounds great to me. Going to run with it.

Male Halfling Bard (Archaeologist) 2

I vote for arguing about the team name in character.

Female Human Gunslinger 1

It would definitely be more fun I think

Scarab Sages

Actually that works as the tablet was issued to you from the priests and merely bears a unique combination of hieroglyphs.

Ra-khefer checking in!

Female Human Gunslinger 1

Woo! We've started roleplay in the gameplay thread already, though right now we're just discussing a name for our group.

Checking In! Happy to be here Pae....I mean the Watcher on the Horizon.

I vote for arguing in character on the group name.

I'm okay with the proposed background. I can see Inferis just inviting herself along.

I can learn them and then use two slots but you don't start out knowing them. spell book

Male Halfling Bard (Archaeologist) 2

Huh, I stand corrected. I guess I've been playing it wrong all this time.

female Human (keleshite) Wizard (Necromancer) 3 l AC 15 l hp 21/21 l F2R2W4 active spells: mage armor

No big deal Max. The exchange is how we all learn.

Female Human Gunslinger 1

and knowing is half the battle. G.I. JOE!!!!

couldn't resist.

Female Human Gunslinger 1

Quick question before we get into our first dungeon, do you want me to keep close watch on my ammo and such. I know bullets are expensive (1gp per), but my gunsmithing feat lets me craft them for free at 1sp each I believe. I'll definitely keep track of any academical rounds I get, but what about the average bullet.

Male Halfling Bard (Archaeologist) 2

Any chance we can get a link to the map?

Also, I take it we have a little time for last minute gear purchases?

Female Human Gunslinger 1

I would think so since the gates don't open until tomorrow. All I know is that after Lori's done doing some last minute buying, she's going to look for somewhere fun to unwind before tomorow's dungeon delve.

Male Human Oracle 3 HP 26/26 | AC:19 F:+1 R:+2 W:+3 | Init: +7 (Roll twice take better result) | Speed: 20 | Percep. +5 |

I used the gear suggestions in the Player's Guide as a resource for buying equipment. Perhaps we can take stock as a group and see what is still needed. Although Cerastes is a bit on the poor side right now he'll pitch in his remaining 4gp and 8sp to buy group loot.

female Human (keleshite) Wizard (Necromancer) 3 l AC 15 l hp 21/21 l F2R2W4 active spells: mage armor

I don't have much money left so I'm planning on keeping what I have.

Male Halfling Bard (Archaeologist) 2

Here is a thing I often put together for groups I'm in. Couldn't find how much gp Lori had left over. If anyone wants edit access, PM me an email address.

Female Human Gunslinger 1

Lori's bought everything she needs to be honest, i was just gonna fluff her getting some hot weather clothes before hitting up a bar or something.

@ max - hehe, yeah, I'm pretty encumbered to be honest. I dunno if DM's gonna be a stickler about that or not. When I DM a game for my group, I don't usually have my players keep track of that. If I don't have to keep track of my bullets or if I can make my own bullets, I'll have 26 gold left over. If I have to keep track of my bullets or can't build my own bullets at the moment, it'll be less. Total weight i'm carrying is about 61 pounds which i believe is heavy for me unless some big, strong man wants to carry my gear for me. lol. At least until i get something like a bag of holding or whatever.

Scarab Sages

The players map for Wati is at the back of the Players Guide.

I don't worry about encumbrance mostly..my thought is that in a fight you have quick release knots so it's a free action to drop packs etc and get down to fighting weight. If you are laden down with masses of loot on the other hand that might become a problem.

Lori might find a merchant she can use in the Inn itself there seem to be quite a few.

Female Human Gunslinger 1

but there's still the issue with my ammo, unless I missed it.

Do you want me to keep track of it and can I make some pre-dungeon delve. the gunsmithing feat lets me built ammo at 10% its cost and it takes a day per 1,000 gp. It's easy to assume we've been in Wati for at least a day or so before the raffle so could i have made a bunch of bullets in that time? Those are my main two questions.

I'm hoping after the first delve I'll have enough gp to upgrade my starter pistol to masterwork, but that also takes a day and I have no idea if I'll have enough time between delves to do that.

Scarab Sages

M Dwarf (Pah-Met) Fighter (Unbreakable) L5 | AC19 (T10FF19) CMD 19 (23 bull rush) | hp 36/65 | Saves F8R1W1 | Percep +0 | Init: +0 | Status: OK

I can carry another 107 lbs easily, and another 24 gp left to spend as needed.

Oh you have time between assignments to do what is needed..there's at least a day between your returning and receiving the next one.

You will need to track ammo and I have no problem with you making some within reason.

Female Human Gunslinger 1

gotcha. well its essentially 1 gold for 10 bullets so I was planning on 50 for my little ammo bag I have on my waist. If you want me to lessen then, just let me know.

I"m also ok with time warping it to the next day, figured it'll be better to post that here than clog up the gameplay thread with the ok.

Male Halfling Bard (Archaeologist) 2

GM, do you want us to roll our own Perception/Sense Motive/Stealth/etc, or would you prefer to do so in secret?

Scarab Sages

I'm good with the players rolling it unless it's something I need to know immediately when I am making my posts..in that case I generally roll as required

Some Information on the subject of Languages

Ancient Osiriani and the modern Osiriani tongue are two separate, but very closely connected, languages. Ancient Osiriani is the direct precursor to modern Osiriani, differing mainly in its simpler vocabulary and the number and complexity of its hieroglyphs. The change from Ancient Osiriani to modern Osiriani took place gradually, primarily during the Keleshite Interregnum of 1532 to 4609 ar, when Qadiran satraps and Keleshite sultans ruled Osirion.

These foreign rulers deliberately attempted to transform Osirian culture by imposing Keleshite traditions on the people of Osirion, which over time resulted in the loss of much of Osirion’s history and customs, including the Ancient Osiriani language. Although speakers of Ancient Osiriani can make themselves understood in modern Osiriani (albeit with a noticeably archaic accent), the same cannot be said of modern Osiriani speakers communicating in Ancient Osiriani.

In the tombs of Wati’s necropolis (and other ancient Osirian sites), all mentions of “hieroglyphs” refer to the Ancient Osiriani language.

Contemporary Osiriani uses much simpler hieroglyphs, and a speaker of modern Osiriani cannot automatically read Ancient Osiriani hieroglyphs. However, because of the similarities between the two languages, a speaker of modern Osiriani can decipher Ancient Osiriani hieroglyphs with a successful DC 20 Linguistics check. A character who knows neither modern nor Ancient Osiriani must succeed at a DC 30 Linguistics check to decipher Ancient Osiriani hieroglyphs.

If no one objects, I'll take at least one of the alchemist fires.

Male Human Oracle 3 HP 26/26 | AC:19 F:+1 R:+2 W:+3 | Init: +7 (Roll twice take better result) | Speed: 20 | Percep. +5 |

I have no problem at all with that. If no one else wants to carry the crowbar and hammer than Cerastes will volunteer. He's strong enough to haul around a bit more.

Female Human Gunslinger 1

maybe i could take the second since i'm kinda dexy?

Scarab Sages

I'll volunteer to carry the crowbar and hammer.

Male Halfling Bard (Archaeologist) 2

I'm a little confused, is this a hallway with one door at the end, or a T intersection?

Female Human Gunslinger 1

I think its just a long halway. The "either end" bit means that there's stone doors at our end that we just opened, which i wonder why the need to put that since we obviously know that already, and at the opposite end.

Yeah the descriptive text passage is a bit redundant seeing as you can only come at the doors in one direction anyway.

Male Halfling Bard (Archaeologist) 2

GM, Is there any reason we can't take 10 on the linguistics and knowledge checks?

Also, thank you for the map, it really clears things up.

Scarab Sages

I have no problem with you taking 10 on Knowledge Skills you are trained in..I generally don't allow take 10 or 20 on untrained skills. To be honest as with perception take 10 is probably the default for most mental skills anyway. This can go a long way towards making non combat knowledge checks much simpler for me as I can instantly tell if the party as a unit can come up with the answers..

I'll add the defaults to the campaign page so I have them in one place.

Female Human Gunslinger 1

I don't think you can take 10 in a knowledge check or Bards wouldn't have a special ability to allow them to do just that.

Scarab Sages

Hmm..I'd forgotten the Lore Master ability..let me check a few things..

Checks.........

Facepalms.....

Ok According to Jason Buhlman you cant take 10 or 20 on a knowledge skill..forget what I said earlier.

Also it should be remembered that you can't get better than a 10 on an untrained knowledge skill no matter what the roll(unless you are a bard) so Inferis should not have known the information from the Know.(Local) I'll let it ride but it should be kept in mind.

Male Halfling Bard (Archaeologist) 2

Was my knowledge high enough to know if this thing has blindsight or something similar?

Scarab Sages

It's a fairly low level beastie..nothing special about it apart from the elemental traits.

Male Halfling Bard (Archaeologist) 2

You still there GM?

Early starts and late finishes at work over a weekend dont help.Still, only 7 weeks till I escape from work forever.

Female Human Gunslinger 1

i just graduated from college last Friday and was out celebrating all weekend.

So I suppose this game is dead?
