Congratulations.
Come on in and say hi. If any of you wish to change backgrounds to include other pc's, now would be the time to discuss it (it's not required in any way shape or form, so don't feel like you need to).
A little about me and this AP. I will running be combat without maps for the most part. I just don't have time to put them together to the standards that I hold for them. There are some maps that come with the campaign materials, and I will use those.
When combat comes I will roll initiative for everyone. After that you can post your actions at anytime, and I will consolidate them into initiative order. You may wait for your turn if you wish, but note that if you do post before your turn and somebody else's action makes yours ineffective, I will not make you waste that action. I will either choose something similar that makes more sense (ex. an NPC you were going to charge got knocked out, but the guy next to him can be charged and is still standing. You charge him instead), or ask you for another action (ex. You had no npc's near you and declared a ranged attack that would draw an AOO, but now someone could take the AOO, I'll give you the choice to re-declare an action).
As for posting frequency, this came up in recruitment, but for those of you who didn't see it: I expect one post a day from each character. I will try to hold myself to that as well. Of course I understand that things happen, but try to contact me asap when you will be away for a bit. If someone is missing too much and I can't contact them to figure things out, I will drop them. I know this can seem harsh, but PBP's are already a very fragile way of playing. Too much delay from one PC can cause others to lose interest fast.
As for my posting, I am a full time student and also work full time at a residential treatment facility. For me, this means most of my posts will come after midnight (when I get off work) PDT. I'm sorry if this causes inconvenience, but I think once we get used to each others posting schedules, we'll be able to settle into a good rhythm.

Variziel |

Great to be here! I've immensely enjoyed crafting this character, and I hope to have even more fun here!
I'm on the East Coast of the U.S., myself. A high school senior, I'll be mainly posting in the afternoon and evening when available, which is just about every weekday, and occasionally when I get a free period in school if there's computer access. I've never played Skulls and Shackles before--the closest I got was an all-dwarf campaign that turned into a land adventure (not as cool).
I'd just like to let everyone know that I'm planning to record this campaign in a campaign journal, as a writing exercise (since I'd like to be a writer), for fun, and because it fits the character. That cool with everybody? If not, just let me know.

Japheeth |

I'm on the East coast of Canada, one hour ahead of Eastern time. At the moment I tend to post at work, so during the day, and before bed, so after midnight (or just before in EST). I may miss a day from time to time but I'm generally pretty reliable. I'm familiar with the premise of Skull and Shackles, and a little bit about the opening, but I've never read it or anything.
Questions for you? Hmm... how are Summoners viewed in your opinion in these circumstances? Will Japh have to hide his Eidolon?
As for being chronicled, I'm sure I'd be flattered. ;)

I'm East Coast and moving to another East Coast location next month. I'll be mostly unavailable between 0600-1830 except occasionally by phone. I post regularly in the evenings.
I've never played Skulls and Shackles although I'm aware of the as written initial plot hook due to forum board discussions. I own the books since I'm an AP subscriber but since I wanted to play it, I didn't bother to read them.
I run two campaigns and I've found that interacting as PCs is crucial to keeping the game alive. In light of that, I look forward to forging character relationships.

Another Mwangi, Japheeth ... excellent. A little Polygot goes a long way. I'll read up on tribal relationships.
I'll also see if I can find a plane trip to read Variziel's background ... :)

Japheeth |

Long story short on Japheeth's people, the Bekyar; Demon-worshipping slavers. Recognizable by their ritual facial scars, which Japheeth has. Japheeth is hardly typical for his people, however - he's shorter and runtier, but the Bekyar are known, feared and hated, so prejudice against them may be a factor for other Mwangi.

Magic is not uncommon aboard pirate ships in the Shackles. So basically it will depend on who your friends and enemies are and what Japheeth will want to do about it. In the end, no, there's no reason you'd need to hide your Eidolon except for your own reasons.
Checking in. FYI, I'll be at a Con all day Saturday, so I'll get my profile up and posted some time Sunday.
Okay. Sounds good. I'll put things together, then probably get my first post up on Sunday. Then y'all can get started when you can. Hopefully have things really rolling by Monday night.

I'm also on the East Coast, but I work second shift (mostly 4 p.m. to midnight) Tuesday to Saturday. I tend to post sometime late morning/early afternoon, once I wake up (by which I mean get my wits around me, not actually get out of bed).
I'm at a computer at work, so most days I can usually get in a post or two if it's quick interaction (as opposed to combat) though I know at least one person's off next week, so that might be tougher. Anyway, a post a day is easily doable for me, and I agree it's critical -- I think posting rate really makes or breaks a PBP.
As noted in recruitment, I started playing an S&S PBP but the GM disappeared on us, so I'm a bit familiar with the first chapter, but we only got to second level and, as noted, hadn't had one good ship-to-ship moment. Ben, I'll PM you with a couple things actually, since hopefully I won't have the exact same experience.
I'll also look for a free day to read Variziel's background -- from my quick glance, it looked like Jessamy could be linked to it if he's interested, but I have no strong feelings about that either way. (P.S. I'm very impressed if you're still in high school, as that looked like quite the piece of writing.)

Jessamy Pierce |

OK, gave it a full read. Very nice (small edit -- since that's my full-time job -- You've got a misplaced bold tag in the fifth graf of the third section; I only mention it because I know how much that irritates me).
I think I'm going to keep Jessamy's background as is, though. I could probably get it to fit Variziel's but I think I'd have to change it just a touch more than I want.
Still trying to decide if I want to take the Pirate archetype. I'm leaning toward it at the moment, but may still change my mind. I'll try to decide by the time we get started.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Fixed. It bothers me, too.

Bellam, I don't suppose grippli have the Aquatic sub-type?

Variziel |

Hey, just a check-in to let you know that I have some family visiting for Mother's Day, so I don't have much time to post. I might get some in at school, but I probably won't be able to post from home for a few days. Please bot me as needed! Thanks.

Jessamy Pierce |

If I can make a suggestion, we'll be running into lots of NPCs in this mod. I found it really helpful to keep a list of who's who for myself and how they act. I just add it to my character sheet.
DM, if you don't mind also putting a list on the campaign info tab as we meet folks, that can also really help.
It may also help to put the actions we can take during the day there. I know I looked at that a LOT in my first attempt at playing this.

DM and V get thru homework and family OK?

DMBen |

I made it through homework alright, but then the last week of work has been terrible. We've had to have the police come to our facility at least three times and I haven't gotten out of work before 1 AM. Sometimes as late as 3:30. But things calmed down a little last night, enough that I was able to start catching up on some things. I'll have a post up later today.

DMBen |

A residential treatment facility for troubled youth. This might happen occasionally. But usually after it does for a week or two, the clients change out (usually through being transferred to a higher level of care but sometimes by actually "graduating") and then things'll calm down for a while. We'll have had a couple changes take effect today, so things should be a lot better after this.

Variziel |

Hello!
I'm sorry for my absence. It was much longer than intended. I really only was going to be away for a few days as family visited. Then the hammer of life came crashing down--AP tests, school work as the year comes to a close, trying to find a summer job... Things piled up. As such, it's been two weeks since I even got on the forum.
Now I'm trying to patch up where I am on these boards, with the games I'm in. I'm pretty sure I'm dropping some of them--probably most--but I'd like to stay here, if it's possible. I really like this character and the potential of the game. If you'll have me, I'd love to jump back in--I'll try and catch up on what's going on.

This may be moot since we haven't heard from our DM in a while but ...
All, I'm moved out of my house and will soon be moving to Ohio ... I'm pretty good at keeping up with my ridiculously oversized phone, but if there're some delays over the next couple weeks as my wife and I close on the new house and get settled, you'll know why.

motteditor RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16 |

Hopefully that's it. Based on my experience playing in another aborted PBP and this one, I also think S&S is probably one of the most difficult adventure paths to run. There are just so many NPCs and making them all come to life must take an enormous amount of time. I love the ideas behind it but honestly I think I'd shy away from trying to run it myself.

So is this thing done? Sad if so, we had some interesting characters.
DMBen, some sort of confirmation or info would be awesome.

Jessamy Pierce |

It sure seems to be done. I've been in a few, but I find my most successful ones are the ones I'm running. Which is fun, but I'd love to be able to be a player too.
I see Ziv's got a spot in his game, though, if you want, Bellam. (Look at the Guild Hall thread...)
