| Eilren Eidren |
As an aside to the party members when no one is in earshot Eilren says, "As I don't sleep the same as others I often wander during the night. As I believe we intend to stay the night here I will watch and see if others wander. You can often learn a lot about people if you know how they spend their nights..."
What Eilren means is that he plans to trance for four hours until midnight and then get up and stealth around the community and vicinity to watch the people and their homes and to see if anybody is up to anything. Apart from this the elf just isn't bright enough to be of much use in an investigation...

It doesn't look big enough to hide anyone, and there are no bundles of mess that could be hiding a person.

Krissina moves into the ruined hovel, pulling a loose stone free she finds a small sack containing what feels like some kind of book and some kind of glass vial.
Before she has a chance to investigate further, a shriek pierces the night sky! A ragged looking man runs at the party, babbling and shrieking, "Why?!? The eyes see you too! Must hide must hide!!"
| Sizzle. |
"No hide." Sizzle says, grabbing the man and trying to set him on the ground. "Dragon eyes not here. You safe."

Aeshuura

"Run or the dragon will consume your soul!" the man throws Sizzle to the side and breaks for the hovel, running straight at it while Krissina is still within!
| Uriah Lewis |
Hmm. That sounds like a losing proposition....soul consuming is not high on my list of things to do today. Uriah says, his eyes scanning the horizon.
Aeshuura
|
There doesn't seem to be anything out on the horizon.
Going to wait a little bit to see if Krissina is able to get out before the man gets to his hovel.
| Eilren Eidren |
As Eilren feels that he doesn't want the ragged man to reach Krissina he stands between the two, draws himself up and uses fey presence to try to scare some sense into him. The elf pulls his hood back ever so slightly and his green eyes look into his soul exposing some deep fear
Sorry for spamming fey presence but I'm limited to what I can do to help and I hope the book and vial may hold a puzzle piece for our quest. DC12 WIS save or frightened for one round

Hearing the commotion behind her, Krissina stuffs the satchel under her cloak and replaces the loose stone before scrambling out!
Eilren, you technically have not taken a short rest yet, so you cannot use the ability again, but I will say that you can use Intimidation to halt his progress, and give Krissina a little more time. Eilren stands before the babbling man, with the presence of a fae lord, hoping to cow the strange human!
1d20 ⇒ 4
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
The man stops in his tracks a bit, and quiets. Only the sounds of pouring rain pattering on your hats and cloaks fill the air, until Krissina's crunching footsteps on the litter of fishbones tell you that she has emerged from the hovel.
When she emerges he mutters, "Horns, like the dracolich... the eyes!"
| Krissina |
Insight: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4 Not even sure why I bothered rolling that actually...
"Ummm, hi. Perhaps you can tell us what exactly this Dracolich looked like?" Krissina mischieviously wonders if changing the appearance of her eyes would make the madman more likely to talk, or just drive him over the edge?
| Sizzle. |
Insight: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Sizzle goes up to the man. "You are safe now." He tries to lead the man to somewhere he can be set down.

| Ander Meliamne |
Insight: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Close, but no cigar. :(
"Easy there, friend," Ander says as reassuringly as he can. "We're here to help. We're going to get rid of the dracolich, okay? We'll make things better. My name is Ander. What's your name?"
Persuasion?: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Aeshuura

The man twitches, "The name... the name is Verik, I, I am so... tired."
He sways unsteady on his feet, "I was... I don't... It's coming. How do you plan to fight it?"
Aeshuura
|
"Are you mad, tiefling?" Verik looks in disbelief, "You cannot reason with the undead!"
| Krissina |
| 1 person marked this as a favorite. |
"Same might be said of my ancestors, but someone obviously had fun with it. If we can't reason with it, we'll find a way to defeat it." Krissina is partly trying to reassure the madman, and is partly just optimistic, plus she's still not convinced that an actual dracolich is involved.
Aeshuura
|
The madman seems to shiver a bit, though you are not sure if it is the rain or the thought of the dracolich...
Aeshuura
|
"I was at home one evening, outside for a smoke overlooking the Moonsea. Then a ghostly ship appeared out of nowhere! I watched for a minute, thinking it was a trick of the moon on the water, but undead spirits poured out of the ship into the sea, emerging from the waters on the back of a dracolich! I ran, ancestors forgive me, I ran as I heard the undead beast breathe fire upon the village behind me!" Verik breaks down, his tears washed away by the rain.
| Krissina |
Krissina looks around for somewhere out fo the way enough that Verik won't see what shes doing, so she can have a look at her finds. Though she'd prefer to stay within earshot if possible.
Aeshuura
|
Krissina, roll stealth. This will representing you picking your moment to slip away. Remember also that it is pouring rain. If it is in fact a book, it could be ruined completely by the rain. There is not waterproof ink yet... ;p
Aeshuura
|
There are a couple of places that you can get out of the rain. There were several abandoned hovels and the barn with the deformed goats. Where would you like to go?
Aeshuura
|
With the rains as heavy as they are, you will need shelter to protect the book fully. However, if you create a makeshift shelter using your cloak or something, you can protect it with a chance that the book could be ruined with a sudden shift of the wind.
Aeshuura
|
@Ander, you sure can!
@Krissina, you may take advantage on that Stealth check.
Anyone else want to ask something of Verik, the madman, before moving on?
| Eilren Eidren |
"Where was your village? In which direction was it? Was it a ship or a Dracolich? You seem confused... We're the undead spirits large or small? Man-sized? What about your family? Where are they?" Eilren watches the man closely while he rapid fires these questions at him
Aeshuura
|
Verik looks at Eilren in a brief moment of lucidity, cocking his head slightly, "It was about a day out on the Iron Route, toward Zhentil Keep. The spectral ship brought the dracolich... the spirits emerged from the surf on the back of the undead beast!"
The man shivers, though you are unsure whether it is because of the memory or the cold rain, "My family... my... nothing but ash!" He breaks down again, falling to his knees. He sobs as he looks up into the dark sky, raindrops beating on his face.
You think that might be all you'll get out of him at this point. Unless you can think of something else that he may know, I will move on tomorrow.
| Uriah Lewis |
Uriah makes a show of being miserable in the rain. He whines incessantly and when Krissina moves toward the barn he follows, mostly because he wants out of the rain.
| Krissina |
Krissina's eyes flicker over Uriah "Should we start moaning in time to misdirect, or would that just attract more observers?" she says softly as she unpacks the item to get a better look, her eyes full of mischief.
Aeshuura
|
Krissina and Uriah make their way to the barn, getting out of the rain. The barn looks to have been made up of various flotsam that washed up on shore. Within there are several useful items, should you need to set up a defense for the village, including heavy sacks of grain, a barrel holding some tools, and several bales of hay.
The goats come over to investigate you, sniffing each of you. The milky-eyed female tends to stay close to Krissina, nestling up against her.
As Krissina fishes out the spoils of her recent find, a small vial of a greenish powder falls to the ground.
The book seems to be written in a strange language.
| Uriah Lewis |
Uriah is too preoccupied with drying his luxuriant hair to notice Krissina's flirtatiousness at first. Then he deadpans
My dear, while I do enjoy an audience. This place is a mood killer.
| Shoun |
Shoun, uninterested in watching someone interrogate a troubled person, walks around the perimeter of the village, trying to get a sense for the best places to repel attackers and plan lines of defense.
Even the rain can not detract from his natural charm. He makes some mental notes and then goes to see what's going on in the barn.
| Krissina |
Intelligence: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Krissina drops into a more business-like attitude as she peruses the items
Indicating the powder
"That's a poison, I think, makes you drowsy, takes about 2 hours to take effect."
Reading through the book
"I don't know how rusty your Draconic is, it appears to be a log of the folk in the town. There's also a sketched-map, there's a cave in the woods that says Altar on it."
I don't know how easy it is to tell, but does the book/writing look recent?
"If the, um, loonaman wrote this he's probably less of a madman than he looks."
Krissina periodically absently rubs behind the ears of the female goat while musing.
