Bashiel is still wearing his guardsman gear. I didn't think about it beforehand, but I figure he's not one to start off skulking about.
"I agree Brin, very strange, though I doubt they would go so far as to poison meat and hand it out. Surely we're not looking at people as depraved as Lamm was."
To the old lady, Bashiel replies "Thank you miss. Sounds like they're a bit of a troublesome sort. In any case we appreciate you talking with us." He gives her another smile and nod before turning to Quinlan.
"There might be an easier way to go about it..."
I have a great strategy in mind, but it involves a non-zero amount of outright trickery, so now I'm trying to decide if its OK for Bashiel as a paladin to suggest it. Will mull over and post again a bit later.

"Vancaskerkin will probably have his followers scatter if he gets wind of us being there to take him to the Citadel. He knows that the Guard isn't kind to deserters. We need to find some way to make sure he doesn't easily escape. If he does we probably won't have such an easy time tracking him down."
And Osiris knows that once Lamm wanted to hide, it was a nightmare finding him in this city
"What we want is to lure him out somehow or have him invite us in. Going in swords unsheathed will just spook him. Quinlan, Brin, Ilsa... what do you think?"
The plan I was thinking of involves some straight up lying, so I guess Bashiel would probably not be the originator. I'll be counting on you guys for this one :>

While this infiltration is going on, Bashiel stays clear of the building's lines of sight (windows, guards, etc) but paces back and forth. He's clearly on edge, waiting for a signal that something has gone wrong and the rest need backup.
Even if I cover up my armor and try to join them... well any one could have seen my face while they were still part of the Guard. Too big of a risk, it'd set them right off.
Maybe we should have worked a signal out ahead of time. Those three are good, but anyone could make a wrong step...

Assuming no hidden weapons are spotted, the man in back secures your weapons behind the counter then opens the door and walks through it. Clearly, you are meant to follow him. The other man stays near the front door.
The door opens into a hallway about 30 feet long, with a door to your left and a set of double-doors at the far end. To your right, a set of stairs leads up to the second floor.
He tells you to wait here at the bottom of the stairs, then heads up and you hear muffled foot steps cross a floor and then another door opening.

At Quinlan's question, Bashiel gives a start before scratching his head and saying "I have no idea. If all goes well they could be in there a long time to give this 'business deal' some authenticity. If something goes wrong... well, I hope we'll see or hear something."
We seem to have lost Kalem for the moment, so to keep things moving, as long as I've seen a post from Brin and Ilsa, I'll move forward.
A minute of conversation goes by before the smarter of the original two goons comes back down the stairs. "Sorry, he doesn't want to see anyone." He gestures back towards the door back to the front of the shop.
Brin's spell goes off without a hitch. For a moment, the man's face goes slack and he seems confused, then he refocuses back in the present and smiles when he looks at Brin. "My friend, the baker!" He comes down the stairs and clasps Brin on the shoulder. "I'm so sorry, but he doesn't want to see you. I don't understand it. I wish there was something I could do."

Quinlan is waiting for a cue from Bashiel... though he's starting to feel a bit anxious at the delay. "I'm getting worried, Bash... they could be in trouble and how would we know?"I'm assuming he doesn't know about Cookie in Bash's pocket... though it's probably hard to hide the movement.. Bashiel blinks at Cookie in surprise when the little guy starts poking and pointing. Does this mean they're in trouble? How would Cookie how?
He clears his throat and says "I don't know for sure, but it looks like Cookie, Brin's little monkey golem, thinks we should go in. I'm not sure I'd normally trust in his judgement, but I think Cookie and Brin are connected. He may know if Brin is in danger."
"I'm not about to take the risk that Cookie is just pulling our legs. Lets go."
Bashiel waves at Varor, Quinlan and Kalem to follow him and heads towards the entrance that the other two already entered. In the process he draws his sap and keeps it hidden in the folds of his cloak.
If there is no one standing outside, he moves over to stand at the side of the doorway and waits for everyone else to get in position.
Quinlan eagerly follows Bashiel and takes a stand to the other side of the doorway, rapier in hand, not so subtle as Bashiel's hidden sap. He gives Bashiel a nod to indicate he's ready.
As Bashiel, Quinn, Kalem and Varor begin to come around the corner, Jerald steps through the door from the hall into the front room.
"Biff, we got more visitors coming. No need to shake them down. They're friends with the other two."
The one in front turns around to talk to Jerald, his back to the approaching party members. "Whut? More? That's an awful lot o' investors, ain't it? Sarge okayed this?"
Jerald responds, "Sure, or no. Or it doesn't matter. Just do what I told you, okay?"
"Indeed. Please, take us to Brin. He gets excited you see, he should have waited for us." He then muttered, just loud enough to hear "...fat bastard trying to take all the credit for the deal..."

Overhearing that Kalem intends to keep the wool pulled over the guard's eyes, Bashiel stays right outside the door and out of sight. He doesn't want either of the two ex-Guardsmen's eyes on him for longer than necessary.
He whispers to Quinlan and Varor "I'll keep an eye out here until the moment we strike."
The dumber of the two guards seems quite perplexed as the other investors arrive at the door... all heavily armed. "Uh, Jerald... This, uh..." But Kalem's fast-talking bowls him over and he shrugs. "Fine, fine, but if Sarge gets pissed, I ain't takin' the blame fer this."
Jerald seems confused--perhaps not understanding why Biff would object, or wondering why he doesn't seem to see any problem with this--then shrugs and lets Quinn, Varor and Kalem inside.

I can handle loot if that's alright with folks. I've put together loot distribution/logging sheets as DM for my players before, so I'll just copy over one of those and input the stuff that you've logged so far Snow.
My general thoughts for loot distribution are:
Assume everything no one claims is sold at the earliest opportunity (as long as we've identified a value for it).
The gold value of everything we sell is split evenly between all 7 players.
If a player claims anything from the items we've picked up, rather than selling the item to an NPC they give the other 6 players 1/7th of the sell price (this is effectively the same as selling the item and then the player who wants it buying it back from the vendor at the sale price). This keeps the total value of stuff between players equal (hopefully this helps to make loot distribution non-contentious). The sheet I have does this calculation automatically when people claim items in the loot log.
If two or more players want a particular item, they should post about it in Discussion. We can determine who gets it by whatever method you guys prefer, be it dice rolling, hour-long moderated debates, internet fisticuffs, or whatever. Since the value of the item still gets split between everyone, even if you miss out on something you want, you still get some gold towards the next one that shows up.
@Snow, here is the link to my loot log. (it should be editable/viewable by everyone who has the link) Up to you if you want to create a copy of it to put with the rest of the campaign docs, or if you just want to put a link to this google sheet up at the top of the page.
As for any liquid gold/platinum/silver etc, I hope we're all OK with just sharing it equally "off-camera".

Actually I've come to find that if you just sell everything at your earliest opportunity you tend to be shooting yourself in the foot. You may end up selling a weapon or item you don't realize you need until it's too late. for example you get this really valuable ruby early on but there's a strange encryption on it. The players have no idea what it is and for a good chunk of the campaign it doesn't mean anything. However the campaign actually expect you to keep it and not sell it off immediately. Or you get this magical ice dagger that's worse than your +2 equipment, but turns out there's an enemy that's only vulnerable to ice. I know I'm giving pretty extreme and latent examples but that's kind of the point here, I doubt I'm the only one who has sold something we didn't realize we were going to need before we needed it.

I'm going to have to bow out, I've spoken to Snow and all is good. Been a little off over the last week and it worked well that I had to take Tom away from all that business as I was starting up a new job.
I just have less time to post now and instead of it affecting the game and my posting I think this is a fitting place for Gregor to take Tom away.
I really wasn't sure how I would deal with a son and continue on. This is such an interesting group, very diverse I wish you all the best and I hope I can follow along and maybe play with some of you in other games down the line.
As I said, I'm sorry to see you going but completely understand and wish you good luck with the new job. I hope it leads to some good things for you.
If you find yourself with more time than you expected, feel free to drop back in. One of the reasons I went with seven PCs is the expectation some would drop, so I won't be trying to find anyone to fill in for you. Yet you'd be very welcome back.

Having been in a number of these campaigns, I'm always surprised by how many people leave after very little time. Anyway, each situation is different, and sorry to see you go.
From a meta-game perspective, I'm curious how the character would have remained involved after recovering his son. Perhaps some more clues will be revealed soon, but it actually does make sense for him to go home and tuck his boy in bed and never see us again.

Aww, shame you have to go Gregor. Good luck with the new job! I hope you do end up settling in to it and have more time to rejoin us. I think your character was pretty fun (though I totally understand that its tough to work out how things continue now that he has his son back).
@Ilsa: Kinda surprised you can keep up with a game with 5 mins per day. I'm taking at least 10-15 mins just to read peoples posts, then another 20-40 to ponder and write up Bashiel's actions. I can totally see how people might not have up to an hour per day to commit on a regular basis.
@Varor: If we think a particular item seems relevant, we can always talk about it in Discussion and then hold onto it rather than selling. My experience with Paizo APs is that it doesn't come up very often or that its very obvious when it does come up. Hopefully Snow will be kind enough to give us a heads up if there's something critical we're overlooking too!

Phew, just sifted through the posts so far and populated the Loot Log. PLENTY of stuff in there. I'll be putting in values to everything tomorrow.
There are some good utility items in there that may be worth picking up, like the acid vials and CLW potions. I figure the keys, ledger, hatbox, and other PLOT items are of negligible worth, but they're up for grabs if anyone wants to keep them.
If someone with appraise can go through, we have a few items that are probably valuable (like the brooch, garnet amulet, very nice dagger) that we don't have numerical values for yet.
@Snow: Whats the value of an adamantine arrowhead by itself? Is it more or less the same value as an arrow of adamantine? Also, I've found a vial of Shiver to cost 50gp on d20pfsrd. Is that correct here too?
Lastly, we found 7 jars of a smelly substance in the alligator room, but never checked what they are. Could we identify these?

Nobody seems to have the requisite knowledge, so either Bashiel can learn it through one of his spirits, or you could visit someone who does know.
Spoiler the Third:
If you wait long enough or go outside, something is going to happen, so no matter what, the plot will advance. I've alluded to it in some posts but it's still percolating. I'm just trying to give you an opportunity to RP here, but if you're all good, we can move on.

We need to coordinate on knowledge skills, I think. I can put skill ranks in arcana, dungeoneering, and religion, but didn't yet to focus on party face skills.
I'll probably put 1 point into knowledge arcana and 1 point into spellcraft at lvl4, as that is when Kalem gets spells. It seems like a good place RP wise. Other than that...this character is of much better use working his face skills.
Actually I looked through folks' character sheets and y'all have done well investing in knowledges available to you. Just not many for those applicable in this particular instance.
Also... go ahead and split the party. GMs looooove it when you split the party. >:-)

Guard post + don't split is my vote.
In character, Bashiel would want to take stock and see how best to help minimize the destruction until things settle down.
Out of character, there is XP and loot out there somewhere, we just need some info to find out where. Also, IMO trying to run away from the "Plot in Motion" tends to be both poor adventuring practice and rather futile, as the Plot will catch up to you eventually. Especially in an AP where the story is more fixed.
I do kinda want to heal off this STR damage, but I guess it'll have to wait...
Sorry for any delay on my end. Had an emergency project at work that has had me almost 100% occupied (as the new guy at my firm, stuff flows downhill and I'm at the bottom). I should have this evening free and will get something up.
I'm in the National Guard, field artillery. Because of a 'soldier shortage', I have apparently 'volunteered' for extra duty. As such I'll be away for training from May 22nd to June 13th. I know from experience that for roughly 1 week of that time I'll have no internet connection (being in the desert tends to do that). That said, I'll do all I can to remain as active as possible.

For items that haven't been claimed on the loot list can we just say, for narrative convenience, that if we find a situation where it becomes relevant we can just pulled out and say I always had it? because I'm thinking of using the Thunderstone right about now.

Doh! Sorry. Just noticed this. I'll leave treasure and so on up to y'all but generally in order to use something I'll want you to have claimed it. Otherwise anyone is able to suddenly pull the magical widget of doom.
