The king is dead! In the Varisian port city of Korvosa, the death of a monarch leads to chaos, and only a small group of heroes can hope to save the city from its own darkest tendencies.

Houserules:

Casting: When casting a spell defensivly if you fail you do not automaticly lose the spell, rather you provoke an attack as you normally would for not casting defensive. If you are hit you must make a concentration check dc 10+damage taken if you fail this check you lose the spell.

Rolls:
Many rolls will be handled by the GM in secret.(don't worry, I don't fudge.)
Any result that can influence the character behavior will not be rolled open.
Rolls that will be handled by the GM:
Perception
Sense Motive.

if you make the check I will send you a pm or make a post and put it in a spoiler depending on the situation.

Sometimes I will roll Initiative others I will ask you to roll depending on the situation. In some situation (rarely) I will bypass init entirely and have you all go first and enemies second or have enemies go first and you all go after.

Combat rules:
I'm a fair GM, I dont roll combat in secret, I don't change results, I don't ignore bad calls from the characters.
Sometimes, character dies, but I'm not a player killer, if I think that an encounter will be easy handled, when it should be more challenging, I will make it a more challenging, if the party it's not prepared to face something, I will drop hints, if they insist... well killing one or two players never made me lack sleep...

Actions:
I'm a GM that do not punish the character for trying something new or cool, or even strange. Visual appealing actions are encouraged, the dc will of course depend on what are you trying, but you can try! If what you want to do is wicked cool, I can even bend the game mechanics to allow it! The most importat part is: You are villains. Villains are smart, resourceful and have style! Have you ever seen a memorable villain that could just swing his sword and do nothing more?

Posting Rate
If it could be done, I expect 1/day posting, if you can post more, it will really good.
During weekend, this rule does not apply. If you are able to post, great! But dont stress over this, everyone need some time to rest (In my case, I need time to play and DM :D on my tabletop games).

Level up
Aside from character creation, when you level up, if you want something not from core rulebook, you'll need to search it inside the game. basicly what you need to do is just show in game your character is searching for that knowledge. This rule is not meant to prohibit anything, I just don't like something like this: "Character always as a full caster, never picked up a sword in his entire life, and then he gain a new level and says: Master, I'll level up as a fighter now..."

"I agree, Donagar."

For now they are content to tail you and their numbers seem to be growing you guess they number between a dozen or twenty now. Up ahead you see what must be were they plan to attack. The road leads right into a crevasse with cliffs on each sides of the road. A perfect place for an ambush.

"I'm all for taking them on, but do we have to do the ambush thing too? I hope not..." complains Corso.

You must find a way around them or try to push trough their ranks to the side or rear.

"Let's not enter their kill zone, and instead bring them to ours."

Corso looks to the others: "Now, I don't know you guys too much, but if we take the ones following us first, who is going to lead? Drakus? Yes, then it is settled. I'll follow your lead!"

Crain rolls his eyes. "Oh yeah, he's quite a leader," he scoffs. The half elf clearly considered himself the leader, despite what all the others obviously felt.

"Well then after you Crain! I don't mind. I just want to get this thing moving and those ruffians going!"

Here is the terrain as it is. With mercenaries on boths sides of the road front and back. Behind you is a more open area however. If you go back you have an open field.

Does that mean they're up on the cliffs to either side and not in front of us? If so, does that mean we have to climb up or use missile weapons to get at them?

In front of you you cant seem them but yes it is safe to assume they will be using ranged weapons shooting down from the sides.

Sorry, it's my fault. I was trying to get things moving, but misunderstood where we were.

"Well, looks like there's little in the way of obstacles here, but I want to stay as far from those cliffs as possible. So let's cut down whoever is behind us first, then let's cut down whoever is in front of us. Simple enough! Now Mai, I suggest you go and make trouble for them. This little incantation may help..." Corso says as he weaves the air around him and shifts reality around Mai. As he lifts his hand, her image disappears as if wiped away.

Cast Greater invisibility on Mai, 11 rounds.

That done, Corso starts to head back down the way they came, looking for the brigands, but follows the tree line, using it as a form of cover.

@corso The red manthis have been hunting the group and trying to kill them for weeks they were hired to do by the queen because they have been hindering her plans. Something they probably told you about by now. This is a new group of assassins since the group killed the last group that tried to ambush them. The red manthis however have a policy that once they accept a contract they do not rest until it has been completed.

Ok so Crain and Cassiel Are just now joining the group.

You were there for a lot of these events and are at least aware that all this happened but you have been working different jobs than the main group so far and Kressida is adding you to her specials forces task squad now.

Half Elf (Destined Bloodline) Bloodrager 10; AC (33)24/16/23; HP 115/115 (145/145); F+15, R+10, W+9 (+2 vs. enchantments) Init +1; Percpn +18; Evasion; Lowlight Vision; Improved Uncanny Dodge; DR 2/-, Rage 25 rounds; 3 (1st), 2 (2nd), 1 (3rd)

Sounds good.

DM, I assume with the 9k starting funds, we can spend more than 1/4 on any one item? A magic weapon will be more than that, so just wanted to be sure that was fine.

yes you can

You can start posting at this point well do some roleplay get the ball rolling and I'll wait till cedric is back to start combat.

Which One?

the one with 70 pages (ours)
or the one with 10 pages (yours).

Note I'll be away tomorrow in a place with No computers, internet, or cell reception.

We will resume gameplay in mine, saves me a lot of trouble.

Male Dwarf Cleric 8 AC 23; HP 71/71; (F+6, R+2, W+9) Init +0; channel 4/4 4d6

Dot.

Codename: "Falcon" Male 'Human' Divine Marksman Urban Ranger 5/Bard 2 (AC: 19 [T: 13 /FF: 16] -1 if using Buckler hand; CMD 20; HP: 58/58; F+5, R+10, W+4 [+1 vs. Mind-affecting]; Init: +4 (+6 in Kintargo); Perc: +14 (+16 in Kintargo) [Low-light vision])

For the new GM and other 2 players.

Gregor has a +23 to pass as Human, and 'inadvertantly' takes 10 every day on his disguise. In his backstory, and part of his personality is that he doesn't know he's Half-elven. He's also a bit fantasy racist, hating half-breeds more than the full-breed nonhumans, but generally disliking them all. He's made more than a few negative somments toward Pai and Donager.

Also, for the GM:
He's been building a rapport with the Pseudo-dragon, (or I've been trying to, that is) as I intend on taking the feats which will allow me to have a Pseudo-dragon familiar (Eldritch heritage; arcane bloodline, and improved familiar). As one of the symbols of the city (the other being I think imp or quasit), he sees it as a symbol of the people of Korvosa, and a noble creature.

Half Elf (Destined Bloodline) Bloodrager 10; AC (33)24/16/23; HP 115/115 (145/145); F+15, R+10, W+9 (+2 vs. enchantments) Init +1; Percpn +18; Evasion; Lowlight Vision; Improved Uncanny Dodge; DR 2/-, Rage 25 rounds; 3 (1st), 2 (2nd), 1 (3rd)

Well, Crain is half elf, and a fairly miserable drunk as well. He doesn't particularly care for anyone, except pretty girls. Should be interesting.

As for Mai, Her disguise skill is at +22 (+2 vs Males) to look human and also takes 10 each day.
As her long hair hides her ears, or when she uses a kerchief to hide her ears.

Though I think Gregor sees Mai more as a Quarter Elf,
and Mai knows Gregor is a Half-elf. (She just does not mention it).

Mai's adoptive family owns and runs the tavern, The Dragon's Horde.

And Hitting on Mai requires care, just ask a customer of the Dragon's Horde.

Male Dwarf Cleric 8 AC 23; HP 71/71; (F+6, R+2, W+9) Init +0; channel 4/4 4d6

Donagar is a dwarf and looks and smells like a dwarf, he is +99 to pass for a dwarf.

He wears masterwork stone plate armor, which lets him do things like walk up to an Otyg and smack it around without getting hit....

As a cleric of Cayden he often ignores both Gregor's barbs and his asanine suggestions....

Oooo, a drinker and a cleric of Cayden?! Crain won't hate you either! A drinking buddy...

Donager does seem to get the brunt of Gregor's insults, and he does also completely ignore them.

working on combat map and rolling everyones init now. Be up in a bit.

Could everyone who hasn't already done so mark their init, their perception and their saves under their names in case I need to roll for you it makes for easy reference.

Added map

The elf woman isn't on the map cause she is on the second floor.

The 9 squares were the blood is is open to the second floor and she is shooting from up there.

Did Pai not notice my edit? Were you waiting for me? Sorry I was away for a few days and Didn't have a chance to check.

Also I thought Cedrick would be back by now.

I don't see the edit referencing, if northern zombie was damaged by channel,
the only edit I see is the addition of the map.

The one north of you wasn't harmed by the channel because he was already destroyed.

Ah,
I could not see a reference to that zombie clearly.

Ok I don't have time right now but when I get back I will edit the make and post enemies next actions.

Well i am back form my vacations and slowly catching up to things both here and IRL :)

Currently in a period of transition myself so my posting may be limited.

Got a new job and moving from canada to germany. Move is only in a couple weeks but I have things to sort out in the meantime.

Level up and prepare you character I currently have you separated from the group but not far from them so you can join back in anytime.

Nice
When your in Germany you should try the various European black licorice droppies, it's better than most american made droppies.

Though I'll advise you, that some are quite salty.
If it's Diamond shaped or has the word "Zoute" in it's name, it likely salty.
If it has DZ on it, it's Double Zoute, and is very salty.
A number of folks can take that level of salt, but not all can and there exists triple Zoute which I would not recommend trying unless you really like salt.

That and European Gouda cheese is awesome tasting.

Trying to think of something to do in Germany, but I was stationed there, so most of my experiences were under less than ideal conditions.

I will say, though, the drivers there are generally much better than anywhere I've ever been, and that's on highways without speed limits. In fact, I once did a speech for my speech class about how U.S. should adopt the more stringent rules for getting your license like Germany (including a comparison of how Germany has like 1/5th the traffic accidents per capita).

Male Dwarf Cleric 8 AC 23; HP 71/71; (F+6, R+2, W+9) Init +0; channel 4/4 4d6

Donagar is trying to get most of the troops up the stairs after the perpetrators figuring he and possibly someone with a reach weapon can hold the undead on the stairs.

Yeah living in Hamburg is gonna be a bit crazy for me. I come from a village of 2000 people the biggest city around here is moncton and it has 100 000 people. It doesn't even have public transit. Hamburg has like 2 million people...I'm not gonna drive there, driving in moncton makes me a little nervous lol.

I'm more or less ready to post (I haven't actually moved yet but I'm mostly prepared) What happened to Cedric you still in this dude?

And Drakus didn't post either.

I posted round 5, don't I have to wait for the zombies to go in round 6 before I can post again? I swear I thought that was the initiative cycle for this fight...

they did go you can post for round 6

Sorry for my recent silence. I have a business trip coming up next week and have been trying to prepare. I promise I will post tomorrow. I may have more time for posting next week depending on how good the wifi is at the hotel (since I will have nothing but time at the hotel).

I gave you a hint earlier and I think you missed it. Earlier she said my darling "Rolf" a familiar name no?

I missed it, but I also came in near the back of the First Book, replacing a rogue, so I'm also missing the reference if there was one to book one.

Mai is fishing for any other information she can.

Rolf is a powerful necromancer you should have fought and killed one of his apprentices back at the end of book 1, his apprentice has stolen the body of a shoanti barbarian and made a flesh golem out of it. If the city guard has a most wanted list he is a top of it.

DireMerc wrote:

I don't think you did. I was digging for information from her, and even looked back at everything she said to us so I could try to use it when I spoke to her. I just did a search of the thread, and the only instance was when you said it just now.

I also came in at the end of the first book, so the name has no bearing for me either.

Quote:
"Oh what a charmer! You remind me of my darling Rolth's silken tongue." she says with a high-pitched giggle. "All I did was murder a few rich bastards that's not a crime that's a service to the community! You should be thanking me! Did you not have fun? I assure you they were much better as my puppets than back when they alive and boring!"

look a bit further back

and my bad I assumed you had all done the first book from beginning to end.

I think, Donagar and or Sgt. Drakus, are the only ones who could of get that reference

Male Dwarf Cleric 8 AC 23; HP 71/71; (F+6, R+2, W+9) Init +0; channel 4/4 4d6

Donagar has been pushing to turn her over to the authorities and let her be locked up and the key lost. He decided that it is pointless to question her.........

"She's obviously nuts, lets turn her over an see if tha guard knows her."

edit: sorry this should be in the game thread...
