Tural Ardas
"That is some research that went into this. Did you get what you wanted from the cure? Will this also cure you?"
Tural asks the man.
------
Tural aks Baer to get him a nice and comfy bed and a table and chair to work on.
Will add some stuff later.
Mavor Asku
"Let's copy this as soon as we can. Anybody got pen and paper?"
Mavor sits down at a table and begins copying the recipe.
"We should get the copy to Burahl, let him distribute amongst the poor people in Old Korvosa. Then we can get the original to the other alchemists, healers and perhaps even the clergy of Abadar to mix up cures as soon as possible."
Allyph Yssal
Allyph shakes her head. "I don't, but I can go out and buy some. I'll help you make some more copies so we can spread them faster."
She then goes out and buys two vials of black ink, two ink pens, and twenty sheets of parchment.
When back:
"Here you go," Allyph says as she hands Mavor a vial of ink, an inkpen, and ten sheets of parchment.
Allyph sits down at the table Baer's meanwhile brought back and starts copying the recipe with Mavor.
Allyph will cover the writing supplies.
Quorthos
"Yes, we need to make sure this cure can't be suppressed... we should send it to as many people as we can." Quorthos also copies the recipe into his journal.
"I think we should tell the Field-Marshall what we have... as soon as news of a cure becomes public, the entire game may change. Even though the Queen has denounced the doctors, they still aren't doing anything to stop the plague."
How difficult does the cure look to make?
Tural Ardas
Tural digs his own ink and pen out of his bag and sits with the others, also copying the recipe.
"We should be done fairly quick."
Afterwards he will aid everyone in spreading the parchments throughout the city, giving them to alchemists all over.
Baer Mytr
Baer notes what Tural is doing.
"Oh hey, that's a good idea," Baer says, taking a seat and beginning to help out. "Yeah, we need lots of copies of this so it gets out to everyone...this will also make it harder to stop."
Baer begins to help until her hand cramps.

@Quorthos: DC 15 Craft (Alchemy)
After a while, and some more shopping by Allyph, you've got a huge pile of recipes.
I had Allyph buy 100 more sheets of parchment for you. That should do.
You head over to some of your friends and acquaintances in Korvosa and give them the recipe. You then start spreading it to every alchemist you can find, a process that's rapidly sped up by a certain tiny dragon speeding around the city. Burahl and Quorthos's father immediately start producing cures, and Ishani the priest also knows some priests who can produce the cure.
Over the span of a week the cure to blood veil's spread all over Korvosa. The huge amount of cures you spread also counters huge prices, because the cure very soon becomes so widespread it's very easy to get. At the end of the week blood veil is, though still fresh in everyone's mind, a thing of the past.
------
Over the course of the epidemic your actions have saved 3600 citizens from death by blood veil. Naturally people are thankful for all you did, and many search to express their thanks. You're contacted via Cressida, and invited to several thank you parties.
Family Friends:
In gratitude for your efforts during the plague, Tayce Soldado organizes the thanks of Korvosa’s settled Varisians. You're treated to a large feast at Tayce’s home with the entire community, many of whom bring the party modest gifts coming to total of 250 gp per character.
(You may each add 250 gp to your wallets if you decide to sell these 'random gifts' later on.)
Good Samaritans:
Dozens of families recognize you for saving the lives of family members or neighbors. You each gain a favor from a skilled craftsman, local artist, or other member of an NPC class. This favor might be the gift of an item worth no more than 1,000 gp, a place to hide out for a night, help researching a topic, or any of a variety of useful services (ultimately adjudicated by me).
(Maybe it's an idea to write down that you have this favor in your profile, if you don't make immediate use of it.)
Local Heroes:
Field Marshal Cressida Kroft personally thanks you for your extensive aid during the plague. Deputizing you as official members of the Korvosan Guard, she opens Citadel Volshyenek’s armory to you. Each of you can select equipment worth up to 2,500 gp (including magic weapons and armor) from the stores.
(You each have to decide on this before we move onto the next book.)
Saviors of the City:
Nearly everyone in the city knows or has heard of you. You gain a +2 bonus on all Bluff and Diplomacy checks made against Korvosan citizens. More importantly, Queen Ileosa is forced to publicly acknowledge your work. She will give a public speech in front of the castle, and you've been invited as guests of honor.
We resume this game in the morning of the tenth day after you received the recipe and started coping it. The queen's speech is this afternoon.
Allyph Yssal
While in the Citadel's armory Allyph chooses a +1 darkwood shortbow, and a suit of chainmail. You later see her sneak of to the stores to sell the armor for half its value.
Really didn't know what else to pick for her with 150 gp left :P
Tural Ardas
Tural selects a +1 agile breastplate (1400gp) and a +1 tower shield (1030gp). He follows Allyph out of the armory and sells the shield, not even being able to use it. He also sells his old armor and the gifts he received earlier.
"That cleans up a lot."
He says to allyph.
Yeah... Tural doesn't really need higher AC, since he has a wall of flesh in front of him. But since he is given it :)
Quorthos
Quorthos selects a pair of matched masterwork heavy bolt launchers (basically one-shot hand crossbows from Ultimate Intrigue) and 50 heartstake bolts, as well as a masterwork dagger that looks interesting or has a Korvosan crest on it or something. (He's a bit of a collector.) He'll also sell the plaguebringer's mask. (Details in discussion thread for reference.)
Also - instead of Summon Good Monster, I took Accomplished Sneak Attacker to boost my damage output a bit.
Baer Mytr
Baer is quite touched by the reaction of the city folk. Where she had expected assassins, that she instead receives the good will and gifts from people she has never known surprises, touches her.
She can often be found weeping in her room, not for pain, but with happiness. She has been unused to such kindness.
In her heart, she feels the good will is false and fake and will soon end, but until then, she tries to enjoy it.
Baer will accept a Pearl of Power 1 as a gift, add 250 gp to her meager holdings, and eyes of the eagle.
Mavor Asku
Mavor picks out a +1 greatclub from the armory, selling his old mwrk greatclub.
I'll save the favour from the NPC for later. I've got a good idea about it though, if we ever have need to escape the city or go somewhere relatively unseen.
Mavor sits still at the feast at Tayce's place, apparently in deep thought, but unbeknownst to many, his thoughts are with Blythe.
At home, he still seems a little on edge, but more relaxed than before.
He knows they're not out of the woods yet and this might only be the beginning.
Baer Mytr
Baer will attend the speech in her honor, but her face will less than pleased.
She will even attempt to look good for the event, but her anger smolders and she lacks the good manners and gentile training to hide it well.
* * *
"This is a farce, Mavor," Baer growls. "We put ourselves in more danger than what we gain by agreeing to this. Are we sure we want to go?"
Tural Ardas
"We may be able to use this to our advantage. She can't openly attack us, that would damage her credibility greatly."
Tural says while packing his stuff to go.
"I say we go."
Mavor Asku
"I'm not so sure if going would be a good thing. But she knows who we are and no need to rub her immediately the wrong way by not showing up at all."
Mavor muses and thinks to himself.
"As long as she doesn't ask us to be part of her personal bodyguard, or says that she instructed us to operate in her secret service, I think I'll be alright. Let's go and see what damage will be done."
StephNyan
The speech is going to be held in front of Castle Korvosa, where a raised podium has been erected. You show up an hour before the speech, as requested in your invitation, and you're taken into a side room of the castle by some guards. After nearly an hour you're escorted to the podium, where you emerge amid a great flourish and pomp as heralds announce your arrival with a fanfare of music and drums. "Citizens of Korvosa! Here is the Korvosan guard's special unit, responsible for curing the plague and executing the traitorous Reiner Davaulus and his physicians! Please welcome Tural Ardas, Mavor Asku, Quorthos Boy, Baer Mytr, Denario Vasquez, and Allyph Yssal!"
The crowd, a mixture of all layers of Korvosan society, applauds as you appear on stage. It takes a minute or two before the crowd calms down enough for the heralds to announce the Queen, who emerges amid the same great flourish and pomp while the music plays. "Citizens of Korvosa! Your Majesty the Queen, Ileosa Arabasti!"
The Queen gives you a polite nod and starts her speech. "My local subjects, we have gathered here to honor these brave members of the Korvosan guard! Not only did they deal with the betrayer, quack doctor Davaulus, who had spread blood veil in our beautiful city, but they even found a cure for this horrible disease!"
Queen Ileosa turns to you. "It is therefore that I do not only personalize wish to thank you for your services to the city of Korvosa, but will also award each of you with a reward!"
With a nod from the Queen's head a servant holding six scrolls appears, and hands each of you a scroll.
"I hereby gift you these writs, each of which can be exchanges for a royal sum of 5,000 gold pieces, for your extraordinary work!"
Another round of applause follows, this time not just for you. A small portion of the gathered crowd responds to the Queen's generosity by chanting "Long live the Queen!"
The chant picks up while, under loud cheers, Queen Ileosa and her entire retinue leave the podium and head back to her castle. She leaves you out on the podium with the cheering crowd below you. "Long live the Queen! Long live the Queen!"
Baer Mytr
Baer bares her teeth happily when her name is announced, smiling at the crowd and trying to make the best of it.
"Quorthos Boy"?! His name is "Boy"? Baer grunts to herself, then chuckles, having thought of something quite funny. 'Boy Boy' will be his new name.
1d20 + 0 ⇒ (6) + 0 = 6 Sense Motive
Nice speech.
Baer waits to be excused so she can go drink and celebrate not dying this day.
Quorthos
Quorthos basks a little in the attention of the crowd, but returns to wariness when the Queen takes the stage. Sense Motive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
His head whips around when he hears how he is introduced. I guess Baer filled out the paperwork... I'm surprised she listed me as a person and not chattel! I've never understood this human need for patronymics - honoring one's family should be by deed, not name...
The reward surprises him and eases any hard feelings, although he does realize that he's just been identified and presented a big target for every thief and lowlife in town. He looks the Queen in the eye as he accepts the reward. "Thank you, Your Majesty. It is an honor to defend Korvosa... from ALL who threaten her with harm." He bows slightly, maintaining eye contact until she moves on.
As the chant picks up, Quorthos scans the crowd, trying to see if any of the Queen's supporters look familiar. Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
Tural Ardas
Sense motive: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Tural accepts the gift, not sure if the queen should be trusted.
Why not give us the money outright?
He nods and gives a friendly smile to the queen when she moves off.
But... She hasn't killed us, yet...
He thinks to himself as the crowd cheers for the queen. He starts waving to the crowd and yelling.
"FOR THE QUEEN!"
As he makes his way off of the stage, really hoping the others follow him and not making him look like a jackass.
Mavor Asku
Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 18
Mavor bows slightly as Queen Ileosa thanks the party.
"It was our pleasure and duty, your Highness."
So that wasn't that bad. The chanting of the crowd on the other hand... She plays the game well. She even got Tural to join in... Wait a moment... Ahh..
"Long live the Queen! Long live the Queen!" Mavor shouts along with Tural, giving him a knowing glance afterwards.
StephNyan
@Quorthos: There are No familiar faces in the crowd.
You carefully leave the podium. The crowd makes way for you and continues to cheer for the queen, spurred on by Tural and Mavor. You safely make your way to the Bank of Abadar, where you exchange your writs for gold. As you make your way back to your lair, or any other place you'd like to visit, you're often greeted by random citizens of Korvosa who now know your faces.
Most of Korvosa's citizens are simply thankful that the scourge of blood veil has passed, and are eager to get back to their lives. Yet unrest grows as the days pass by and the city continues to recover, the rumors of the queen's involvement growing. Unfortunately, so do her resources. The Gray Maidens become more and more prominent on the street, and progressively oppressive laws and edicts begin to appear.
End of book 2!
StephNyan
Book 3: Escape from Old Korvosa
With the end of the blood veil plague, Korvosa settles into a wounded silence. At first, it seems as if the city is healing and recovering from the tragedies she has suffered, but it should soon become apparent that the damage done to Korvosa during the riots after Eodred II’s death and the plague itself might have been even greater than anyone feared. The streets are dull and muted, strangely empty except for when markets quietly open. People seem to be more interested in staying home than going out, and when they do, they shamble quickly and quietly to their destination and conduct their business swiftly.
The Order of the Nail has withdrawn from Korvosa, retreating to Citadel Vraid for the first time in Korvosa’s history—some whisper the Hellknights are planning a full-scale invasion of Korvosa to seize control, but more knowledgeable sources know that dozens of Hellknights perished or failed to uphold their charges during the recent events, and that Lictor Severs has recalled his troops to punish them for these failures. City temples have their hands full tracking down the last remaining pockets of sick in the city or disposing of the dead, and the Academae has kept its doors shut and resources ensconced for the duration, apparently hoping to wait out these troubled times. Both the Korvosan Guard and the Sable Company took staggering hits to both their personnel and morale. The commanders of both organizations talk about recruitment drives to replenish their ranks, yet helping Korvosa recover remains their primary goal — a goal made difficult by Queen Ileosa’s reduced support.
Yet the queen is not ignoring Korvosa. The energy and support once lent to the Korvosan Guard is now funneled into a new order of peacekeepers — the enigmatic Gray Maidens. Even as the number of Korvosan Guards on the streets seems to dwindle, the presence of these armored warrior women increases. Regular patrols of Gray Maidens march along the major streets, and rumors of strike forces breaking into homes and buildings reputed to house those who voiced dissenting opinions of the monarchy are growing. Old Korvosa remains under tight quarantine, with troops of Gray Maidens stationed along the Narrows and patrolling the Jeggare in swift warships to ensure that no one gets off Endrin Isle — the plumes of smoke as buildings burn and the periodic roars of riots that echo down from Old Korvosa alone are enough to warn away the curious. No one mentions the words “martial law” yet, but they hover on every tongue.
At the start of this book three full weeks have passed since the queen's speech.
Quorthos
During the three weeks, Quorthos will send a letter to his father, informing him of what is going on. He'll alternate time between copying spells into his spellbook, gathering information on the Grey Maidens, and surreptitiously scoping out Old Korvosa to see how tight the quarantine is. Surely there's no need to quarantine it now that the cure for blood veil is widely spread... so something else must be going on. If it is possible during the three weeks to sneak into Old Korvosa just to get a look at what is going on, I'd probably try that, using invisibility and doing nothing but recon.
Baer Mytr
Baer grunts, happy to leave the queen with her head upon her shoulders. She returns to the hideout, ready to...uh...do something.
"Boy, Boy Boy," Baer approaches Quorthos one fine day. It's clear she's bored and has no idea what she wants to do. "What are you doing? Copying spells? Ha. I do that too. It's good that you youngsters take over heroes like me and Denario. We'll train you right if we can keep you alive."
She passes the time: recharging her staff. Practicing her staff-work. She even asks to see the spellbooks of both Quorthos and Denario, to see if there is anything interesting therein to share or learn.
She, of course, offers her own spellbook...but her spells are often hastily written. Often in shorthand and sometimes copied in the margins of other spells. But, if you try hard, you might make out some of the words...enough to form a coherent spell. For example, instead of needing bat guano for one particular spell, it lists the ingredient as 'hairy night bird poop'.

2: Alter Self, Bladed Dash, Flurry of Snowballs, Fog Cloud, Glitterdust, Invisibiity, Mirror Image

Tural Ardas
Tural remains with the group in the lair, often strolling around and looking in on the others.
"Now that we have some time on our hands, may I have a look also?"
He picks up one of the spellsbooks and leafs through it.
"And you know these spells when you read this?"
He asks after a reading a few pages.
"It doesn't make sense at all, don't you talk to your spirit to learn more?"
The shaman asks, full of innocence.
Denario Vasquez
Denario shares his own spells with the others.

Feather of a magpie.
Allyph Yssal
One day when everyone's gathered in the lair, either copying spells or just hanging out, Allyph approaches you. Her old peasant's dress has been replaced by a violet dress with golden embroidery. With the addition of gold earrings and a gold necklace, each set with amethysts, Allyph looks like noble. Her appearance is a stark contrast to the poverty stricken girl you met at the start of your adventure.
"I've received news that a friend of mine has passed away. Baer's met her some time ago, her name was Ilya and she used to run an orphanage. It's the same orphanage where we sent the kids Gaedren Lamm used for his schemes."
"The girl who helped Ilya at the orphanage died during the plague, and now there's no one left to take care of the kids. I've decided to take that task upon me, because the kids know me from my many visits there in between our missions for Cressida and they need someone they know they can trust."
Allyph shakes her head with a saddened expression. "It pains me that doing so means I have to part ways with you, but I want to relocate with the kids. I want them to grow up somewhere safe, outside of this hostile environment the Queen's creating. I was thinking of Harse, because it's a safe place outside the Queen's influence. That's also why Vencarlo had you escort Trinia there. The 5,000 gold pieces from the Queen's writ will help me a long way."
A wry smile shows on Allyph's lips. "If things go really bad here and you need the help, know that you can always call upon me. I will never abandon my friends in their time of need. You will know where to find me."
Quorthos
Quorthos' face falls as Allyph makes her announcement. "Allyph... you are a good friend. I wish you would stay, but I know your duty leads you elsewhere. Good luck." He hugs Allyph and then goes back to his books, trying to avoid facing his thoughts.
Baer Mytr
1 person marked this as a favorite.
"What? No!" Baer reacts angrily, not taking the news well. "I can change. I'll be better...don't go. I'll give money to the orphanage...I should do that anyway." Baer fumbles with her coinpurse, trying to keep Allyph from leaving.
She hasn't had many (any?) friends in her life and Allyph was one of the few that she might have considered one.
"Are you sure you must go? And so far away?" Baer asks, thinking her request is futile, but too hurt and angry to be mature about it.
"Fine, you go then. I didn't need you anyway," Baer storms off angrily. She doesn't process such things well. Rejection sucks...and though she had felt it all her life, she's not used to it yet.
Tural Ardas
Tural nods, looking as sad as a tree-man can look.
"I understand... I would've done the same."
He gives her a hug and moves off, not wanting to say goodbye as she leaves.
"I'll go take a look how Baer's taking it."
Instead of going to Baer he silently moves back to his room, not wanting to face his emotions just right now.
Mavor Asku
Mavor nods slowly at Allyph's words, then waits for the others to say their goodbyes.
"It's a shame to see you go Allyph. We will all miss you." The great half-orc says as he approaches the timid and lean half-elf.
He lays a hand on her shoulder and smiles, though with pain on his face.
"You've helped us through alot. You do what you've gotta do. You can always count on us as well if ever you're in trouble."
Then Mavor leans a bit forward and says in a softer voice than usual.
"You take care of yourself. Also give my sincere regards to Blythe when you meet her. Please watch over her as well."
Then he backs off again, still smiling somewhat as if he is hurting inside.
Allyph Yssal
Allyph looks pained when she's about to leave and says her goodbyes to those still present in the lair. "Thank you for everything, guys. I'm sure our paths will cross again."
To Mavor she whispers, with a soft smile on her face, "Will do."
Before she truly leaves Allyph looks for Baer, and after some time spent searching Allyph finds her. Quietly, Allyph walks up to Baer. "Hey..."
She reaches inside her pocket and pulls out a small steel mirror, its frame decorated with a flower motif. "This mirror used to be my mom's. It's the only thing I have that was once hers."
Allyph takes Baer's hand and puts the mirror in it. "I want you to have it now, Baer. You are a wonderful friend, and I hope this will remind you of our friendship even when I'm not around."
"I'm sure we will see each other again, many times," Allyph says as she gives her friend a hug. She then leaves to pick up the orphans, waving at Baer until she reaches a corner and disappears from sight. A few hours later Allyph and the orphans cross the North Bridge and leave Korvosa.
Baer Mytr
Baer takes the mirror, feeling very guilty for her outburst, and hugs Allyph though tears. She sobs openly, offering Allyph 500 gp in return, before running off to sob on her bed.
She cries through the night, holding the mirror.
When she wakes in the morning, she'll ignore or forget anything about Allyph leaving and flatly denies that she cried or was ever attached to Allyph. During the afternoon, she'll return to crying in her room, only to deny that she was ever crying.
"Oh, nothing. There is a lot of mold in this hideout. We should have chosen one with better air flow. My eyes are watering because of mold."
Mavor Asku
"Mold? Yeah true, but we're not in a position to be picky about hideouts I think baer."
Mavor strolls around the room and the rest of the former necromancer hideout.
During these three weeks, he went out under cover of darkness to visit Burahl and the streets of Old Korvosa to see what's happening over there. But on some days and nights he disappears entirely for several hours, locking himself in one of the empty rooms with no light source whatsoever. What he's doing there, no one really knows as he does not make any sound.
Tural Ardas
Tural shrugs.
"Don't mind the mold too much. At least we're safe."
He looks close at Baer and sees she's been crying.
Heal check to determine source of tears: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Seems everyone is taking it hard..."
"I'm more worried by the rats I've seen scurrying around. Baer, you want to help me get rid of them?"
He asks the burly half orc in response.
Maybe that will take her mind off of Allyph for a moment... As well as mine.
Majenko the Imp Slayer
Two more uneventful weeks pass until one day Majenko comes flying in with a message.
"So I've been swooping by Cressida's office from time to time, because she assigned me this very important mission to check in regularly," the tiny dragon states proudly, feeling like he got a very important job.
"She told me that she wishes to talk to us about something very important that's happened, as soon as we're all available. Preferably right now. It did sound very very big."
Quorthos
So, wait... that's five weeks since the Queen's speech? Were we able to find out anything about what is going on in Old Korvosa? If there is still martial law going on, I can't see us doing nothing about it for more than a month...
Cressida J. Kroft
You head to Citadel Volshyenek and find it immensely understaffed. Only one guard stands at the Citadel entrance, and none train in the large inner courtyard. The halls of the Citadel are silent and empty, with refuse and trash scattered here and there, dust gathering in empty barracks, and an overall state of creeping neglect hanging like a pall over the place.
Cressida looks haggard and tired when you arrive; she ushers you into the central keep quickly, leading you into a smaller meeting room in the depths of the keep, a plain-looking chamber with a single long table and enough chairs for you and herself. On the table sits a small closed coffer.
"Allyph's not with you?" she asks, and she listens as you tell about Allyph's decision to leave Korvosa with the orphans.
"You might see her again sooner than you expected to, for Korvosa is dying," Cressida says, a feeling of dread immediately tangible in the small chamber. "No, strike that. Korvosa is being murdered. Killed by our queen. The evidence you’ve uncovered that links her to the plague is damning enough, but this recent display at her address... The commander of the Sable Company, Marcus Endrin, is dead..."
"The Queen called for a meeting, in which she told us that the Gray Maidens have been appointed as the new protectors of Korvosa. They're being led by Sabina Merrin, the Queen's right hand and lover, who has been appointed as General of Korvosa. The Sable Company was dissolved and folded into the Korvosan Guard. Endrin's had brought his crossbow and tried to assassinate the queen, shooting a bolt straight into her temple. She... she just pulled it out... She grabbed him by the throat and rammed the bolt in between his eyes, instantly killing him."
"The queen's more in control now than ever. I dare not move against her — my Guard would be executed to the last man by her Gray Maidens by sundown. She must be stopped. And I know of no one else but yourselves to do this deed."
"Whatever foul magic the queen has wrapped herself in is obviously of the highest order. Endrin’s aim was true — his shot should have dropped her. I had feared he was going to take matters into his own hands like this, but I had hoped he would find it within himself to find a better route. If only he could have waited."
"You see, just this morning, new information came to me. I have received a missive from my friend Vencarlo Orisini, the first I’ve heard from him since Queen Ileosa cut off Old Korvosa and put it in quarantine. A message that gives me hope. Vencarlo speaks of discovering something of vital importance regarding the queen — he mentions something about dark magic and a pact with a devil, but until the events of this morning, I found his claims difficult to believe. Yet now… if Queen Ileosa has entered an infernal pact of some sort, we must tread carefully indeed."
"Vencarlo asked for you in the missive. You’ve made quite the impression on him, it appears. He remains in Old Korvosa now, but has asked that I send you to him, to his home, to hear what he has discovered. Ironically, you should be safe in Old Korvosa — the queen’s quarantine has cut off the island entirely, and word on the street is that she plans on leaving it to rot. She won’t think to look for you there if you maintain a low profile and avoid confrontations with the Gray Maidens."
"Once you find him, you’ll need to escape Korvosa, I fear. This city is no longer safe for you, or for those associated with you. As Field Marshal, I suspect that as long as I comply with the Queen, I shall be safe — and I will do what I can to ensure those friends and family you might leave behind are protected. By remaining in this city, I fear that you put them into more peril. Go to Old Korvosa, find Vencarlo and hear what he has to say. He has contacts in Harse — he’ll be able to help you lay low, something I hope Allyph's also done. I shall be in contact with you when I can, at which point our plan, I hope, shall be clear."
StephNyan
So, wait... that's five weeks since the Queen's speech? Were we able to find out anything about what is going on in Old Korvosa? If there is still martial law going on, I can't see us doing nothing about it for more than a month...
You were able to learn that there's an increase of Gray Maidens all over Korvosa, and the Korvosan Guard seems to be less present. Old Korvosa's in quarantine, and despite an especially high increase of Gray Maidens in that part of the city nothing big seems to be really happening. It looks like the calm before a storm.
If there's something you'd like to do during those 5 weeks, please let me know. But it's basically a gradual build up to what's in my previous post, with more and more Gray Maidens and less and less regular Guards appearing everywhere.
An important bit of additional info is that the citizens start to trust the queen less, and rumors about her have started spreading. Rumors that confirm that she was behind the plague, and which have the people you saved from the Physicians' hideout at their source. Those people saw the Gray Maidens conspire with the Queen's Physicians, after all.
Mavor Asku
Mavor sits down for the first time they've met with Marshall Kroft, wide-legged and broad, his greataxe leaning against the chair, he listens intently to Cressida's story.
"That's... quite something to take in... So the Queen is in league with demons? And normal weapons won't kill her? Seems she wants her possible enemies on a short list, either the ones with power or rising to power. Good thing we evacuated most of our relatives, friends and loved ones already. We've still got some allies in the city though, they might need to be kept safe."
The big half-orc mentions as he folds his hands together, thinking about what could be done and other questions rising to the surface and mulling things over.
"What can we do? We might be hardened through battle, but we're no commanders or leaders. Can we? No, no no... that isn't possible. Wait a minute... Marshall Kroft? Did Vencarlo tell you why he was impressed with us? Come to think of it we've only met him a few times before, but everything he could have known about our exploits must've been hearsay. Strange choice of words if he only has heard about our reputation."
A big frown appearing on his face as he comes to this thought.
Might he've been spying on us? Is he a master of disguise?
Baer Mytr
"Mold? Yeah true, but we're not in a position to be picky about hideouts I think, Baer."
Baer looks at Mavor with teary eyes.
"If I say there is too much mold, then it's the mold that's making my eyes water," Baer sniffs, turning away.
"you have a mold face. i'll mold your face with my staff," Baer grumps sadly under her breath as she retreats to her room to cry, still reeling from Allyph's betrayal departure.
* * *
Baer listens to Cressida's story about the Queen, no longer as outwardly hurting from Allyph's departure. She seems her usual grumpy self.
"You want us to flee? Shouldn't we stay and fight?" Baer shakes her head, not liking the plan, but willing to hear Vencarlo's logic on it.
"I already suspect that she will come after us, but outright fleeing? Hmm...sure...maybe."
Baer looks at the rest of the party to see how they feel about it.
Denario Vasquez
Int check, Vencarlo/Black Jack?: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Denario's eyes have a hint of a suspicion.
"Mavor, now that you mention it, that doesn't add up.
Given that, i've got an idea as to why, although that is unconfirmed. I'll tell you guys afterwards."
Back to miss Kroft:
"Fleeing is the only way to be safe?
Hardly befitting after the mess we've been through, but if you really feel we aught to lay low for a while, i won't particularly object."
Tural Ardas
"Maybe Vencarlo has some resources so we can operate from outside the city?"
Tural says out loud.
"But moving out means it will be hard to get back inside again. I'm not too fond of the plan, but I say we hear him out first."
A sad look crosses his eyes a moment later.
"Maybe it's better to be on the move. If we stick with the hideout Baer will suffer from the mold and the others probably won't stop thinking about Allyph, she still has her room there. Better have something on our hands."
He nods to himself, his sadness turning to resolve.
"I say we collect our stuff and head to Vencarlo."
