Ellie Doubledown

"Indeed. More walking to do, though. Gonna be okay?" Ellie teases. "If I remember correctly, the Shrine of the Failed is pretty close to the Starstone Cathedral. This mystery keeps getting weirder."
Nuo Fukui
|
"Forgive me; I grew up in Tian-Xia and trained in the Sothis lodge, so do not know the way. Please lead us, Ellie."
| GM V |
As you head towards the center of Absalom, the crowd is abuzz with excitement. Word on the street is that Sir Reinhardt, a knight freshly back from the Mendevian Crusade, is about to take the Test of the Starstone and attempt to become a god. While few locals believe he will become anything else than another name in the Shrine of the Failed, such events always make for good sport. This means that even the guards who normally tend to the Shrine of the Failed instead head outside to watch the festivities, giving you almost unrestricted access to the place.
The Shrine of the Failed is a huge multistory marble building with literally hundreds of shrines, one for each failed aspirant throughout history. Looking at the list of names outside, you see that indeed there are three failed aspirants whose epitaphs match those of the false Pathfinders from the Wall of Names. The altars devoted to Doggo, The Muted God, and Zimpar are all located in the basement annex of the Shrine of the Failed, an area currently unguarded.
What do you do?
Brother Max
|
"Stupid fools who think they can be a god... and simply bloodsport for the observers..." Max grumbles his way into the shrine to see if he can find the altar of Doggo.
Yelek Hssar
|
"We should ssssearch for Doulgonlir Cassskmail Noktoria, Hollisss “Evil Grin” Thorne and Karina Clamp" suggests Yelek remembering the names the party found previously
Terros Deepdelve
|
Terros nods, seeing the wisdom in searching for these names at the shrine.
The dwarf begins to look around, hoping to find one.
I'll look for the names clockwise from the entrance, taking 10

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Max explores the shrine areas, looking for anything that might hide a secret compartment or door. "I expect whatever may he here will be as hidden as the coin we found..."
Esmeralda Villasani
|
Esmeralda pauses at the entrance to the basement, thinking about the clues that they've been given so far.
Secret behind the nameplate of the failed aspirant, and guarded by password "Wiffle". We have three options, so....
Then she moves to find the shrine for the Muted God, and after a moment pause, she'll push on the nameplate.
Yelek Hssar
|
"I'll search Hollisss “Evil Grin” Thorne..." says Yelek moving near the statue bearing that name.

Can't get better than that perception...
Nuo casts detect magic at the Doggo shrine.
Nuo Fukui

"There's chalk and a black slate here. I guess we could write something on it?"
Nuo points it out to the group.
Yelek Hssar
|
"The gnome sssaid the passsssword wassss "wiffle"... altough I don't know what good it could do for ussss" hisses Yelek, puzzled yet again
| GM V |
You write wiffle and a secret door opens following the path you find,
Several desks are arranged along the northern and eastern edges of this small stone alcove. Whereas the stonework leading to this chamber is rough, the walls in the alcove are polished. A single gem rests among the neatly filed papers on the desk, emitting a soft luminescence that brightens the small room.
What do you do?
Ellie Doubledown
|
"Seems reasonable to me," Ellie agrees, taking another corner of the room.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Nuo Fukui
|
"Yes, let's do that. We have much information to give."
Qiang Fukui
|
"Another task completed..." The spirit mumbles to himself contently.
Esmeralda Villasani
|
Looking at the papers, Esme nods in approval as she goes to stuff the papers in her backpack. "We can sort them out at the Grand Lodge," she says, as she works.
When the suggestion to deliver the papers to Dreng pops up, she stops cold. "No, anyone but Dreng," she says with a cold tone in her voice. "Master Shane, VC Valsin, hell, even Paracountess Dralneen is preferable. But we are not giving Dreng this treasure, after all he did was pull us out of bed for a booze run for him."
Ellie Doubledown
|
"That seems fair," Ellie shrugs, rifles around in her pocket and brings her hand up in an obscene gesture.
"Let me check my other pocket." She brings that one up empty, "nope, couldn't find anything that would interest you. Sorry," she shrugs, looking at her companions.
Brother Max
|
"Of course... these papers here, and this rock..."
Max moves forward with the stuff in his arms, intent on getting close enough to the speaker to surprise punch him in the face. He is not very convincing.
Bluff: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (8) - 2 = 6
Yelek Hssar

"Dreng isss the one who ssstarted thisss ssso we go to him" says Yelek in is usual emotionless tone.
As the bandits block the party's way out of the building Yelek hissing becomes more irate:"Move away now and live... or try to bar our passsage and die. Sssimple choice, really"
