Niall Amakir |

It is a small room, only ten feet wide, and half of it is taken up by a stair, made of wood, which appears damaged and in danger of collapsing.
Niall points through the hole in the wall and says quietly " Goblins. " he steps into the room.
" Careful, those stairs look ready to collapse. "

Perivius "Perry" Lalomaundriale |

Perry nods in reply to Niall, pats Lijan on the shoulder, then goes back over to Victor and whispers, "Niall spotted goblins in a nearby room; best get ready."
Then, looking up toward the roof where Ayita is, Perry cups a hand next to his mouth and whispers as loudly as he dares, "Ayita! Down here!" Once she's down, Perry tells her the same as he told Victor, then readies himself for action.

Terquem |
Above, a couple of posts I put up a Perception Target for noticing something about the stairs, that was meant for those characters looking down at the stairs from the room on the second floor, sorry I didn't make that clear

Lijan van Histoff |

Histoff looks at the direction of the stairs and tries to make himself unnoticeable and goes near the stairs,
slowly and carefully finding a spot for a surprise attack in case a goblins pops up.
stealth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17

Victor von Gladden |

Victor nods to Perry and heads over to peer down the stairs to see what he can see.
Perception1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

Victor von Gladden |

Victor turns to his companions speaking softly in case there are Goblins down there, "Stairs are a bad way down, let me set up my grappling hook and tie off a rope so we can use it to brace ourselves to get down, or pull our companions up if need be".
Victor sets to doing just that.

Magnus Ravenson |

Seeing the others getting into position, Magnus turns to Niall and Sigil and asks nonchalantly:
"Do you know how to draw serpents out of a hole in the ground?" he asks. Without waiting for an answer, he continues: "Poke it with a stick."
Moving forward, he rushes to the east door, spear raised to throw at any goblin that comes int view.
Thrown spear: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 131d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Terquem |
Hide: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Perry, Lijan, and Victor crowd close together at the top of the stairs, unsure of the safety in taking the stairs down to where Magnus and the others have entered the base of the tower. Ayita begins shimmying down the rope as Victor begins securing a grappling hook to the frame of the doorway in case they all need to use a rope to get down to the floor.
Suddenly Magnus rushes the doorway between the tower and the room next to it, and hoists his spear for battle.
The chamber beyond the tower is large, and cluttered with debris. In the Dim Light it is difficult to make out exactly what all the clutter. There are a few small holes in the ceiling in the southeast corner of this area, and from the northeast corner of the room there appears to be a poorly boarded up door, also letting in a few narrow beams of daylight. Magnus does not see any goblins, but he is ready to throw his spear at anything that looks out of place
Magnus, please make a Will Save, the DC is 10. If you fail you throw your spear at an overturned table, if you succeed, you hold your ground, and keep your head for a moment.
Because the room is in Dim Light, all Perception Skill Checks that rely on sight are made with Disadvantage here.

Victor von Gladden |

Once the hook is secured Victor looks to his companions, "Have any of you magic to wield an item from afar? If I light a torch cam you direct it into that room near where the cleric stands?

Magnus Ravenson |

Wisdom save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
As cool as a corpse, Magnus stares into the dim light of the room, looking for a target.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Disadvantage roll: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
If he sees a goblin:
Spear throw: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 201d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
If he doesn't see a goblin:
"No need for magic - just throw a torch in here. Smoke and fire work even better than sticks for making vermin run."

Victor von Gladden |

"Normally I would agree cleric but I don't want to burn down the inn, after all, we just got here...

Ayita - First to Dance |

"Certainly, Lijan, you are quite the gentleman. I did not realize you were waiting for me."
Ayita grabs Victor's rope and swings down to where Magnus is standing. She draws her shortbow and aims it into the darkness.
Ayita has darkvision.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18

Perivius "Perry" Lalomaundriale |

"Don't worry Victor, I've got it," Perry says, smiling. He picks up a small piece of debris, casts light on it, and tosses it toward Magnus.
"Here," Perry says. "Toss that in there, see what happens."

Victor von Gladden |

I think it is more of the upper level group getting down to you guys...

Terquem |
Day 1, Wednesday approximate time of day, 1:50 pm (turn 84). Location: Caldwell Castle, Harrispania. The party has entered the East Gatehouse tower, the lighting is Dim Light, Perry has cast a Light Spell on a rock (duration 6 turns, turn 84).
Magnus stands stone still in the Opening between the lower floor of the East Gatehouse Tower , and the adjoining large chamber. His eyes pierce the dim light beyond, but he sees nothing moving, and definitely sees no Goblins
Perhaps Niall was mistaken…
When Perry throws down a stone with a simple spell of light cast upon it, the area at the bottom of the stairs is easier to see, and the stairs degradation and disrepair becomes obvious to everyone.
Securing a second rope, Victor holds the grappling hook in place while Lijan and Ayita each take turns lowering themselves down the ten feet to the ground, avoiding the stairs completely.
The group is mostly together, with only Victor and Perry still on the landing at the top of the short flight of stairs. Magnus blocks the way into the chamber beyond, but unless he states otherwise, anyone is welcome to try to barge past him and explore where Niall swears he heard the sound of Goblin voices coming from.

Victor von Gladden |

If Victor stays up here will he have a vantage point to use his Longbow to fire at enemies or is the doorway just too small?

Ayita - First to Dance |

Ayita chimes in, "If they are not going to come out, we should just go in after them. After all, they are just vermin. The sooner we are rid of them, the better."
Ayita swaps her shortbow for her shortsword and readies herself to enter the breach.

Magnus Ravenson |

The blond maniac glances over his shoulder at Perry and hefts his spear.
"I see the breaths of future corpses hanging like clouds in a still sky," he says, before advancing into the room, poking at piles of ruined furniture and other debris with the sharp point of his weapon.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

Lijan van Histoff |

Histoff tries to see if there are any surprises that anyone might have not noticed in the room that magnus looked into, not pushing Magnus giving him space to breath and also a space in case of a fast retreat
perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Victor, from the top of the stairs, you cannot see into the chamber to the east
With some light in the room beyond, Magnus bravely strides forward
Suddenly the big man hears a piece of wood shift to the right, and then he sees Goblins everywhere
Round 1…
Neither group is surprised
Three goblins have Short Bows (Purple, Blue, and Green) and they all shoot at Magnus, since they are hidden when they attack, they have Advantage

Damage: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 4) + 2 = 10
Perry falls backward onto the ground, unconscious and bleeding from a bad wound
When Perry's turn is up, he needs to make a Death Save, this is a d20 roll, and you must roll 10+, unless another character before him in the initiative can heal him
Perry - takes 10 damage and is unconcious
The Initiative Order is
Goblins
Niall
Klodd
Ayita
Lijan
Magnus
Sigil
Victor
Perry
I really thought the Shield Spell would Save Perry from Harm this round, I didn't expect a natural 20 so soon in the game on a monster roll, oh well, let's hope someone can save him

Niall Amakir |

Niall reacts as Perry drops firing green crackling energy at the goblin in the doorway.
Eldritch Blast at Red Goblin : 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Damage : 1d10 ⇒ 7

Ayita - First to Dance |

Ayita takes a step into position south of Perry and then stabs straight at the red goblin's chest with her short sword followed up with a front kick to the face.
Shortsword: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15, Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Unarmed Strike: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21,Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Assuming the goblin dies, Ayita will continue into the room, ending her movement in the space directly to the right of where the red goblin was standing.
"Die filth! Get away from Perry!"
We have two clerics in the party, Perry should be okay.

Magnus Ravenson |

So, the goblins were hidden even though I rolled a 22 on my Perception?
Ignoring the barbs from the goblins' bows, Magnus pokes at the nearest enemy with his spear.
Spear attack vs goblin: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Ha’Uldurah "Tina" |

if you go back and look, the goblins managed to roll a 20, +6, for a 26 hide

Klodd Rockhopper |

"Dang it all. Hold them off till I get there".
Klodd calls upon his divine inspiration and attempts to bring Perry back from the brink of death.
1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 Cure Wounds

Lijan van Histoff |

Histoff rushes to the the goblin trying to flank him from the right with the group and attacking the goblin with his rapier.
shouting to Magnus
Stay Alive Magnus we are coming !
he then speaks to himself.
just one goblin and we can help Magnus
attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Perivius "Perry" Lalomaundriale |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Perry gasps hard for breath as he's suddenly awoken, then gives a nod of thanks to Klodd before charging into the fray. Posting for longsword, but if I can't get in range then I'll use FireBolt, which has 1 point less on the attack roll, and the same damage die, just without the +4 on it.
Longsword (2h): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26, Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Crit damage: 1d10 ⇒ 8
Great googly moogly. O_O
Perry's eyes fly open, then dart back and forth as he assesses his rather ignoble posture. Standing and brushing himself off, he puts his hands on his hips and surveys the scene before giving an affirming nod and saying, "Um, right; good work, everyone. Glad we've, uh, got that handled... and thanks for the backup there, Klodd old buddy."
Perry clears his throat awkwardly, then asks, "So, where to next?"

Victor von Gladden |

Victor uses the rope to climb down the stairs.
I assume that is a full round action.

Klodd sees and hears the sudden commotion and rushes into the small room, he kneels by Perry’s side and heals him with a spell
It is Ayita who steps up, with a stab of her sword she wounds the goblin in the doorway, and then with a powerful kick to the groin she sends this monster flying out of the way, when the goblin lands, he does not move
Lijan rushes through the doorway to magnus’ aid, looking to the right, he spots a Goblin with a bow (blue) and with a cry of anger he attacks the archer
I took the liberty of moving Lijan into the room, as Ayita dispatched the goblin in the doorway. You rolled a “20” so you get to roll another d6 for damage, here I’ll roll it
Critical Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Lijan’s attack is swift and effective, killing the threatening foe
In the future, try previewing your post to catch these sorts of bonuses yourself

Edited for Perry's action

Lijan van Histoff |

If there are places that look like a good spot for a hide then
Histoff tries to watch out for any more surprises from any goblins in the direction of these places.
Histoff also shouts
Victor ! are you okay ?
and then asks
Is Everyone alive ?
perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
sorry for not noticing the 20 roll
If I edit a preview then the dice don't change

Ayita - First to Dance |

Since Ayita doesn't currently see any goblins, she rushes over to the northeast exit to block the doorway and prevent any cowardly goblins from escaping.
From there she looks to see if she spots any.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
And she does!
"They are hiding over there and over there!" Ayita shouts and points.

Magnus Ravenson |

"No one hides from death," Magnus says, drawing his longsword and advancing on one of the goblins Ayita pointed out.
Longsword attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 191d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
His blade flickers out, flashing like the Storm Lord's eyes, before flinging a ribbon of blood against the ragged tapestries on the wall.

Victor calls back, "I am fine was looking for another way down but I am here now".
Victor draws his bow and peers into the room.
Perception1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19

Not seeing any he stays watchful and alert incase of a second ambush.
Ready to attack a goblin if they attack.
Readied Atk (Eldritch Blast) : 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Force Dmg : 1d10 ⇒ 2

Klodd Rockhopper |

With a lurch and a grunt, Klodd comes back to his feet, and aims his crossbow in the direction the goblins were hiding. He awaits the reaction to Sigil's statement before acting (Hold Action).

Round 2…
Distressed by the idea that there are more foul goblins hiding in this room, the party begins to slowly spread out in search of them. The light from the spell on a rock in the center of the room throws stark shadows against the walls.
Lijan calls out to Victor, who calls back with a shout that he is ready
Ayita sees a goblin's foot sticking out from behind a broken and overturned cot and calls out the location to the others
Magnus follows Ayita’s pointing hand and rushes the goblin’s location, throws away the obstacle, and with a crashing overhand blow he kills the goblin
Niall stands poised to unleash an eldritch blast, and Klodd comes into the room leveling a crossbow with deadly intent, but when Sigil calls for the goblin to surrender, everyone is surprised as the little creature throws down his weapon and lifts his hands in the air as he shouts in common
Goblin - Wait, I surrender.

Ayita - First to Dance |

"Someone bind that creature quickly! Don't trust it for an instant. As soon as you drop your guard, it will try to bite your face off. Mielikki's blessings do not extend to these wretches."
Ayita maintains her guard, keeping her sword pointed towards the goblin. At the same time, she feels at the door behind her with her off-hand, curious if it is locked or not.
