Mad Geologist 5/Dungeonmaster 4/Writer 1

Seebo & Ashan:

Spoiler:
"Aaah. Here we go." The sage opens a book wide at a double page where the left hand page features a crude black and white woodcut of a human woman on a stage of some sort, with a sabre in each hand, and wearing a ballerina's dress. The back view of the front row of the audience features in the illustration too, and they seem to consist of a series of rotting corpses or undead. He turns the book around and shows it across the desk to Seebo: "Is that your dancer?"

Seebo:
Spoiler:
It's a bad picture in the woodcut, but it could be her.

Male Rock Gnome Cleric 1

GM Charles and Ashan

Spoiler:

Seebo studies the picture, closes his eyes, “Yes that could be the dancer, I saw in my dream.”
“Who is she?”
“Why would she want to hurt me?”

Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1

Charles

Spoiler:
Bronx will approach the other gnome, once he gets close enough that he doesn't think he'll be overheard he says, "Davku, good to see you. I've been looking for you and Seebo. Where is he?"

Male Halfling Rogue 2

G.M. Charles & Seebo:

Spoiler:

Ashan will sit quietly taking in as much as possible.
He feels a bit out of his depth at the moment, as there is nothing he can contribute to this conversation at the moment.

Mad Geologist 5/Dungeonmaster 4/Writer 1

Bronx:

Spoiler:
“I don’t know.”, Davkul says rather vaguely. “I left him at a sage’s house, and I’d imagine that he ought to be still there now. Things were rather hectic, and the sage seemed a decent fellow, even if one of his servants leaves much to be desired. There was an incident. Up at the mining offices, where Seebo and I went for the interview. There were a couple of halflings, Markov and Ranulph, who were clearly up to no good. I tried to warn Seebo, but he insisted on talking to them. And then he went and had a word with a crazy fellow afterwards.”
Whatever’s happened seems to have deeply affected Davkul- Bronx notices Davkul’s hands tremble when he talks of the mining offices and what passed up there.

Mad Geologist 5/Dungeonmaster 4/Writer 1

Seebo & Ashan:

Spoiler:
“Apparently, there may exist a group of creatures which torment the waking dreams and nightmares of those who have seen, heard, done, or otherwise witnessed something absolutely ghastly. She,” the sage taps the book, “is supposed to be one of them. They continue to latch onto victims, night after night, driving them insane if they were not so already. Can you think of any such experiences which you might have had?”

Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1

Charles

Spoiler:
"Where is this sage's house at?" Bronx asks with a trace of disgust in his voice.

Male Rock Gnome Cleric 1

GM Charles and Ashan

Spoiler:

Thinking hard, “Nothing I would call absolutely ghastly.”
“There were the Dwarves in Sundabar and what they were doing in the fights, but that wasn't ghastly it was just dishonest”

Male Halfling Rogue 2

G.M. Charles & Seebo:

Spoiler:

Ashan thinking hard mumbles, "Could it have been something that just happened, that has already been wiped from his mind. Something he cannot currently remember."
Ashan will then look a little embarrased that he said this out loud.
"Sorry, I'm not learned enough to comment too much."
He will then go back to listening intently.

Male Rock Gnome Cleric 1

GM Charles and Ashan

Spoiler:

Looking at Ashan and commenting through clenched teeth, Seebo frustratedly retorts,” I can't remember anything after leaving Sundabar.” Then resignedly sighs and drops his head in his hands.

Mad Geologist 5/Dungeonmaster 4/Writer 1

Bronx:

Spoiler:
Apparently stung by what he perceives as a note of criticism in Bronx’s tone, Davkul snaps back.
“Heavens know, I was unsettled by what went down up there, and I was much further out from the epicentre than Seebo was. The others there just went crazy, and turned on one another when the planar rift opened and those tentacles started reaching out. Seebo was standing right next to it, and just collapsed. After the rift imploded in on itself I was able- at some risk to my own safety, given the insane combatants nearby- to get in and drag Seebo clear, to bring him back to town. But I didn’t have any money, or not enough to pay for the kind of magical assistance that was likely to be needed to treat Seebo; what was I supposed to do? Forget about him? I met a halfling who said he was an associate of Seebo’s and that he knew a sage who was a friend of his, and might be able to assist. Maybe I should have turned the offer down, but I was desperate.” Davkul starts to calm down a little. “I’ve done some asking around, since, and the man whose house I left Seebo at, the sage Aumbril Leafgreen, is by all reports honourable, if nothing else. He apparently even has an interest in our deeds of last night, or at least in the beetles which invaded Mrs. Prestwick’s boarding house. He sent his man-servants out to collect samples of them for analysis, I hear.”

Mad Geologist 5/Dungeonmaster 4/Writer 1

Nim:

Spoiler:
Hope to have got things together sufficiently to be able to resume posting to you, too, within the next few days.

charles

Spoiler:
im away until thursday so no hurry, i dont think i will have email where i am going

Mad Geologist 5/Dungeonmaster 4/Writer 1

Seebo & Ashan:

Spoiler:
“I would like to be more certain,” the sage says, “but it seems to me that the most likely current explanation for your condition is that the deity you serve has erased the knowledge of whatever horror that you witnessed from your mind, to deny this night horror,” he taps the ballerina in the book “whatever pleasure or other gain it might otherwise derive from continuously tormenting you. Furthermore, the gnome who apparently rescued you and brought you here mentioned Mrs. Prestwick’s boarding house as being where you had been staying with your half-brother, and that is where an incursion of strange beetle-like creatures- specimens of which you may have glimpsed in my alchemical laboratory where we awoke you- occurred last night. The possibility occurs to me that perhaps the climax of something to do with them may well have been the knowledge which was so disturbing that it and anything remotely connected to it has had to be taken away. It is good for you, but admittedly frustrating for me in closing off one possible line of further research into those fascinating creatures.”

Male Rock Gnome Cleric 1

GM Charles and Ashan

Spoiler:

Looking at the Sage, Seebo pauses for a moment then says,"If what your saying about my memory being blocked by Garl, then maybe I need to meditate and pray for some insight and guidance. Do you have some where quiet I can do this?"
"Somewhere I won't be interrupted, I will let you know what, if anything, comes of it. Garl like the other Gods can be mysterious in his ways."

Male Halfling Rogue 2

G.M. Charles & Seebo:

Spoiler:

"If you think it prudent, I would like to go to Mrs. Prestwick’s to find Seebo's brother. He is a big lad, and I would like not to get on his bad side."
With a look to Aumbril, "He is and adopted brother. Seebo can fill in the details if you wish."
Turning back to Seebo, "I think if I can find him, it would ease his mind, that is if he still remembers me. From memory sometimes he can be a bit slow." quickly adding, "no offence meant."

Male Rock Gnome Cleric 1

GM charles and Ashan

Spoiler:

"Thankyou Ashan, seeing we are already in Deadsnows, poor Nim will be worried sick."
Turning to the sage, "Will it be alright to bring him here? He's actually a half orc, but to him he's just a big gnome. he's really quite protective of the whole family."

Mad Geologist 5/Dungeonmaster 4/Writer 1

Seebo & Ashan:

Spoiler:
The sage doesn't seem very enthusiastic about the idea of house-guests; this is going to require a Diplomacy check.

G.M. Charles & Seebo:

Spoiler:

Ashan seeing Aumbril's hesitation, attempts to calm him by suggesting that he only visits briefly so that he can see that his brother is safe.
"I only want to calm any fears he may have, confirming that nothing dire has happened to Seebo. I'm not suggesting that Seebo's brother stay here. I should go and confirm my room is available as well, its not really the sort of weather for camping out. I'm suspecting that you may need Seebo to stay a little longer so that you can make sure that there is nothing more that can be done, or that there is nothing more that he can tell you about his ordeal."

Male Rock Gnome Cleric 1

GM Charles and Ashan

Spoiler:

Seeing the look on the face of the sage Seebo turns to Ashan, " Can you take me to the boarding house? If Nim is there, we must have a room and he'll be getting worried."
Seebo very politely thanks the sage for his help, and promises to let him know of anything that comes up. He will also assure te sage that he will do his best to repay him for his help.

Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1

Charles

Spoiler:
"Where is this house?"

Mad Geologist 5/Dungeonmaster 4/Writer 1

Sorry about the delays; circumstances here are currently rather trying with it being difficult to get into a frame of mind suitable for this thread.
Nim:

Spoiler:
Mrs Prestwick comes in, accompanied by a maid carrying a patchwork bag.
Mrs. Prestwick shuts the door behind them then looks at the girl on the bed.
“I don’t know.”, she says. “I’ve never seen her before. She looks like one of them easterners, to me. Them fellows from funny foreign parts, such as Rashemen, Thay, or Mulhorand. Where and how did you find her?”

Mad Geologist 5/Dungeonmaster 4/Writer 1

Bronx:

Spoiler:
“The sage’s house is somewhere on the south side of town, two storeys high, with bay windows, and built of grey stone with a slate roof.”, Davkul answers Bronx. “It’s one of the biggest private residences I’ve seen in this place.” He hesitates a moment. “You need to be careful around town, Bronx. I’ve found out that Markov and Ranulph were both staying here at this inn, but that there was a third halfling, Jaego, who seems to have been pretty chummy with them, and whom I can’t account for yet. I’ve alerted the company of the Black Bow to some nastiness that some of Markov’s personal writings which I retrieved indicate that the halflings were involved in in a cabin out in the woods to the northwest- kidnapping and murder there by Markov’s account- and those three also seem to have been leagued with some bad fey. I don’t know if fey pranks were what put a fright into us in the woods last night. I’m not even sure if that was Fenwick we saw last night, or at least not alive and in the flesh. If I’m not going mad, then it may have been either his ghost or a shapeshifter that had followed him here and knew enough about him to feign acquaintance with me.”

M half orc Paladin 1

charles

Spoiler:
we found der girl in a cottage bout 40 minutes walk from here, she was hurt and i fink bad fairys had done it to her!

Mad Geologist 5/Dungeonmaster 4/Writer 1

Nim:

Spoiler:
“Didn’t used to be any of them plaguey fairies in the woods in the old days.”, Mrs. Prestwick harrumphs. “Or leastways if there were, they kept themselves to themselves and didn’t bother more civilised folks. Everything’s topsy-turvy these days. I reckon it’s them elves’ fault. Not the ones in these parts’ who are actually willing to get their hands dirty, but those’s who sit around on their magic islands all day, served by djinnis and whatnot. Them fancy lords and ladies, what prance around in the woods worshipping Yondalla-knows-nothing-of-what ancient powers.”
She makes a hurried warding sign, then with one final disapproving shake of her head goes over to the bed to more closely inspect the girl.

Male Halfling Rogue 2

G.M. Charles & Seebo:

Spoiler:

Since it looks like Aumbril is not responding here.

"Yes, I think I could help you back to Mrs Prestwick's boarding house."
"If its alright with you Mr Leafgreen, I could come back tomorrow morning with any further information I; I mean we are able to gather."
Looking a little concerned at Seebo.
"Do you think you are strong enough to make it, or should you rest a bit more before we leave? I don't think I could carry you very far if you pass out on the way."
"I'm not staying at the boarding house, but I'm not that far from it if my memory is correct."

Mad Geologist 5/Dungeonmaster 4/Writer 1

Seebo & Ashan:

Spoiler:
Sorry for the delay, but at the moment, Bronx is moving around town, and I'm waiting to see where he finishes up.

M half orc Paladin 1

charles

Spoiler:
nim just smiles, not really comprehending! "please do you think you can help der girl"

Male Rock Gnome Cleric 1

GM Charles and Ashan

Spoiler:

"I think I can make it, if the boarding house isn't far. I'm worried about how Nim is getting on."

Mad Geologist 5/Dungeonmaster 4/Writer 1

Seebo & Ashan:

Spoiler:
At present, as I mentioned in my previous post, I am waiting to see where Bronx ends up; if it would be okay if you both wait, whilst I try to sort that out?

Mad Geologist 5/Dungeonmaster 4/Writer 1

Bronx:

Spoiler:
"It might be best for you to go on for a bit without me.", Davkul adds. "There are things I still have to do, probably best done on my own, and since I called in at the Black Bear earlier this afternoon I believe that something both sneaky and flying has been following me, when I'm out on the streets. I'll try to make the evening meal at the boarding house tonight, okay?"

Male Halfling Rogue 2

G.M. Charles & Seebo:

Spoiler:
Got the message when I last posted.
Did not expect Seebo to post.
I will be waiting for a post from Charles before I post again.

Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1

Charles

Spoiler:
"Splitting up further, probably isn't a good idea. I'll head back to the boarding house. If you see Seebo again, direct him there. His brother should be waiting for him." Bronx will down the rest of his drink and then leave the establishment and head back to the boarding house and try to find Nim.

Mad Geologist 5/Dungeonmaster 4/Writer 1

Seebo & Ashan:

Spoiler:
Well I now have some idea of where Bronx wants to head….
At this point the man servant, Jerek, returns with a wooden bowl filled with what looks to be some sort of vegetable broth, accompanied by a wooden spoon, on a wicker tray. “You look a little peaky. Some refreshment?” the sage offers Seebo.

Mad Geologist 5/Dungeonmaster 4/Writer 1

Bronx:

Spoiler:
Random encounter chance (1d100=8)
Finishing his drink, Bronx rises from the table and heads back out into the hall, where he waits running an eye over the paintings whilst the porter throws levers and peddles frantically to swing the great door open once again.
Outside, the snow is still falling, although it seems to be starting to ease up.
Time: Approx. 15:52, 30 Nightal, 1383 DR
If Bronx makes a DC 18 Listen check (bonus vs. Fey applicable):
Spoiler:
Bronx catches the click and rustle of some sort of airborne fey nearby.

Male Rock Gnome Cleric 1

GM Charles and Ashan

Spoiler:

"Thankyou, some food would much appreciated. But I would really like to find my brother. Maybe if I get some rest, something more will come to me. Please believe me when I say, 'you will be one of the first to know' if I remember anything."

Male Halfling Rogue 2

G.M. Charles & Seebo:

Spoiler:

"I think you should eat before we go.
A little more rest and some food, then I don't think I'll need to carry you."
"Thank-you Jerek."
"Not to seem rude Mr Leafgreen, but I believe it would be better if Seebo rests with his brother once he has eaten. Myself or Seebo will return if he manages to remember anything. If there is anything we can do to repay your hospitality, and your kindness, let me know, and I will see what I can do for you."
"Now no argument Seebo. Food is good, then we will go."
Ashan will sit down as if he expects no argument from Seebo.

Mad Geologist 5/Dungeonmaster 4/Writer 1

Seebo & Ashan:

Spoiler:
"If you do discover anything else that you wish to update me on, which cannot wait until tomorrow, it is possible that I may be showing my face at The Silver Tree at some point this evening.", Aumbril says to Ashan whilst Seebo dithers over whether to eat the soup or not. "The mine-owners are hosting a great party there this night, and keeping in with patrons is an oft-times necessary duty, even for men of learning such as ourselves."

Male Rock Gnome Cleric 1

GM Charles and Ashan

Spoiler:

Seebo will sit quietly and finish the soup. After wich he will thank Mr Leafgreen again for his help and Jerek for the soup. Collect his backpack and motion to Ashan that he is ready to leave.

Male Halfling Rogue 2

G.M. Charles & Seebo:

Spoiler:

Ashan will chat with anyone/everyone (any topic) while Seebo eats.
He will then collect his gear, and carry Seebo's gear for him.
Thanking Aumbril and Jerek, while escorting Seebo.
Ashan will then keep a close eye on Seebo as both make their way back to the boarding house.
Ashan will break the way through any snow drifts they may encounter.

Mad Geologist 5/Dungeonmaster 4/Writer 1

Nim:

Spoiler:
Mrs. Prestwick inspects the girl, poking and prodding her, and pulling up an eyelid at one point, before making a disapproving harrumphing noise.
"Drugging and some sort of nasty magic.", she pronounces.
She directs the accompanying maid to pass her various bottles and jars from the bag, and a pestle and mortar, grinds some things together, and wraps the resultant paste in a cloth (pulled from the bag, along with a piece of twine) to form a poultice, which she applies to the girl's brow.
"Leave that there.", she says to Nim, very slowly and clearly, pointing at the poultice. "You understand? I'll be back at some time after dinner to change it."
She packs the things away into the bag, making ready to leave, and passes the maid the tray to carry, as well as the bag.

Mad Geologist 5/Dungeonmaster 4/Writer 1

Seebo & Ashan:

Spoiler:
If you would please add a plain lead scroll tube (weight ½ lb) to your equipment list, Seebo, and each add 150 XP to your totals for encounters and actions.
Before the two gnomes depart, the sage gives directions from here to the boarding house to Ashan.
Feeling at least strong enough to stand, Seebo doesn’t need much help from Ashan, as Jerek shows them through the house, and down to the front door.
Outside, in the twilight of late afternoon or early evening, snow is falling, with visibility at perhaps sixty feet- and the snow is lying over a foot deep on the street in many places.
Jerek nods to them in farewell, then closes the door behind Seebo and Ashan.

Ashan:
Spoiler:
Whilst it’s snowing, it doesn’t seem to be as bad as earlier; visibility is certainly much improved.

Seebo:
Spoiler:
The smell of the air certainly isn’t that of Sundabar with its tight streets, many forges, and at times overloaded sewage system. Except for the grey stone, slate-roofed house you’ve just emerged from, what buildings you can see look a lot smaller than anything you’re used to in Sundabar, and certainly aren’t as tightly packed together.

Male Halfling Rogue 2

G.M. Charles & Seebo:

Spoiler:

Yay, I'm going up a level! let me know when I can update my skills.

Following Aumbril's directions, Ashan will guide Seebo back to the boarding house. He will proceed at Seebo's pace so as not to tire him needlessly.
Ashan will give a bit of a quiet running general commentry about his trip to Deadsnows, and what information he has gathered about the bug attack at the inn. Details of what information he got from Aumbril can wait till they are somewhere secure.

Mad Geologist 5/Dungeonmaster 4/Writer 1

Nim:

Spoiler:
Mrs. Prestwick and the maid leave, closing the door behind them.

Bronx:

Spoiler:
Not noticing anything unusual, Bronx once again plods across town through the snow, and arrives back outside the boarding-house. What daylight there is, is starting to drain away rapidly.
Time: Approx. 16:02, 30 Nightal, 1383 DR

Spoiler:

Male Rock Gnome Cleric 1

GM Charles and Ashan

Spoiler:

As they push through the snow, Seebo quietly listens to Ashans' commentary, asking a question here and there.

sorry for the delay in posting, I've been out of town and my wirless connection on my laptop wouldn't work.

Mad Geologist 5/Dungeonmaster 4/Writer 1

Seebo & Ashan:

Spoiler:
Presently you reach the building which, if the directions you were given are correct, should be Mrs. Prestwick’s boarding house. It is a sturdy brick-built affair, a couple of storeys high, with a porch and light spilling out into the gathering gloom through chinks between the curtains of several of the windows. Night is drawing in quickly, now, as the falling snowflakes whirl and dance their way down into the street.
