Chicken Scratchings:
HP: 6d10 + 1d6 + 1d10 ⇒ (10, 5, 3, 5, 1, 1) + (5) + (9) = 39 - rounding gives an extra 10, then 8 x Con mod is 40 more = Grand total of 89 HP

Skill points are 13 x 6 + 2 x 9 = 96 total

Base languages are 8, plus extras from Linguistics

Spells known 7 / 5 / 3 / 2

I'm thankful for the delay DM - though please feel free to kick off without me if you need to. Won't get my sheet straight till probably 11th Jan (after I'm back from holidays).

Male Imp (Outsider, Lawful, Evil, Extra-Planar) Ninja 2

I feel small, frail, and weak. It will be a good thing that our enemies can't see me.

Female Lyrakien Half-Fiend (outsider(native), azata, extraplanar, evil) Monk(Martial Artist+)/1 - Cleric(Crusader)/3

No problem - Abdiel, there are two groups here - Team Muscle and Team Hustle or Team Small and Team Tall.

Will get the HD fixed, thanks BKDM.

Do not be ashamed, pretty demon. Ssrintal has been known to scare many in his time. But Ssrintal is fairly certain that his math-fu is stronger than his intelligence can account for.
I do admit to a bit of min/maxing, but the race/template combo was too tempting to pass up.

Female Lyrakien Half-Fiend (outsider(native), azata, extraplanar, evil) Monk(Martial Artist+)/1 - Cleric(Crusader)/3

1 more level of hp:
1d8 ⇒ 8

Ssrintal, still want you to have a 3x or 4x weapon and see just how much damage you could do. Doing 100 damage on a single melee hit would be cool.

Maybe next level Ssrintal will take Vital Strike for to kill harder. Run. Run while you can.

Giant Friendly Talking Spider

I just realized that I'm the only mortal non-outsider in the group...

Spiders are friends, not food! Hands off my soul, no matter how tasty it may be!

If Ssrintal took Vital Strike next level, and someone cast Enlarge Person on him, max crit with a greataxe would be:
3d6+22+3d6+22+3d6+22(crit)+3d6(vital strike doesn't get multiplied)= 138 max damage.
But thats like a perfect storm of whoopass, which isn't realistic. It's like those DPR threads; a mental exercise and not really that meaningful in game.

Yeh - it is unlikely that you would get the 138, however if you managed to roll 12 "1"s in a row, you would do 78 damage, still not bad.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Silly Spider, souls are for trade, not eating.

Most of the time.

Well, more than half, certainly.

Just remember, if you ever feel you need power, we'll all be perfectly happy to broker the whole Faustian bargain thing.

I do not make bargains. Souls are yummy like Paula Deen's chicken pot pie.

Paula Deen is not an ArchDevil, however if you worship her, her domains are Fire, Evil, Trickery, and Butter.

Butter Domain

Granted Power:
3/day + Cha modifier, you may treat any creature you have slain in the previous round as Tiny only for the purpose of Swallow Whole. Creature must be greased in lard, butter, or other artificial flavoring.

At 8th level, 1/day you may create a butter golem which requires 1 stick of butter, and any other substance. Golem has statistics as homunculus, and will melt after 24 hours.

Domain Spells:
1- grease
2- hideous laughter
3- neutralize poison
4- create food and water (buttered meals/desserts only)
5- waves of fatigue
6- heroes' feast
7- giant form I
8- earthquake
9- power word kill (word must be "butter")

(it should be noted that many clerics of Deen suffer fatal heart attacks long before unlocking the more powerful domain spells)

Giant Friendly Talking Spider

Thanks, that made me laugh :)

That made me laugh as well, except for the COMPLETELY AWESOME spell list! Be careful what you wish for...
Could you use the grease spell to coat the body of your slain enemy for swallowing purposes? That seems like a great way to prevent your nemesis from being resurrected to harass you again.
Fighter:"Sweet! We won! We've slain the High Priest of Margarine!"
Cleric:"I eat him."

Male Imp (Outsider, Lawful, Evil, Extra-Planar) Ninja 2

And now you've made me laugh while drinking, and soda coming out your nose is painful.

Female Lyrakien Half-Fiend (outsider(native), azata, extraplanar, evil) Monk(Martial Artist+)/1 - Cleric(Crusader)/3

You sure level 3 should be Neutralize Poison, seems that Poison would be more appropriate. Also, I was thinking that level 4 should be:

Butterball
This slightly modified fireball spell causes an instantaneous 20' radius explosion of cooked turkeys to expand out from the center of the spell. This spell causes 1d6/level bludgeoning damage and also leaves the area as difficult terrain due to the pile of turkeys strewn about. All people affected by the spell must also make a Fortitude save or be nauseated.

Oh man. A fireball that causes bludgeoning damage and forces a save vs a great condition?! Yes please!

Male Hellcat

Delayed Butterball that has a programmed pop-up timer that activates the detonation.

Be wary of any NPC casting grease now for any reason.

Wary, and also certain they'll make for good (evil) followers.

Female Lyrakien Half-Fiend (outsider(native), azata, extraplanar, evil) Monk(Martial Artist+)/1 - Cleric(Crusader)/3

Grease spells are cool, if I fly at 80', and then land with greased feet, I can cross a huge area like a speed skater.

More Chicken Scratchings:
96 skill points, max of 8 in any single skill.

8 into Know Arcana, Know Planes, Know Religion, Diplo, Bluff, Linguistics, Perception, Spellcraft, UMD = 72
4 into Appraise, Fly, Sense Motive = 12

84 spent, 12 left to spend.

Languages - 8 normal, plus 8 from Linguistics

Female Lyrakien Half-Fiend (outsider(native), azata, extraplanar, evil) Monk(Martial Artist+)/1 - Cleric(Crusader)/3

Heh - I put 1 skill point into Linguistics, but have Truespeach which makes talking to people quite easy.

Speaking is one thing - reading and writing another ;)

But it's ok, I have 16 languages to pick now.

Since we've had some time, I've been thinking about last-minute tweaks to Tia. I have charm monster so I'm going to drop charm person but I'm not sure whether I want to replace it with feather fall or unseen servant. Any thoughts?

EDIT

@Zadlužený: Have you considered intimidate for your remaining skill points? Even without the class skill bonus you'd be pulling +17

Zad and I are tiny, unless we are attempting to intimidate tiny or smaller monsters and people, we are taking a -4 on all intimidate checks.

As far as the spells goes, I think that Shocking Grasp is a great spell, requires a touch attack, but it does 5d6 damage with no save. Also, if you get a 3000gp Rod of Reach Spell, you can use it from 30'+. Or Magic Missile - with the Toppling Spell feat, or a Rod of Toppling, you can trip 1-4 enemies - kinda nice with a level 1 spell.

Male Imp (Outsider, Lawful, Evil, Extra-Planar) Ninja 2

I'd recommend Feather Fall over unseen servant for Tia. First off I think it fits the whole spider motiff better (since you could probably re-flavor it to using threads to slow your fall as it happened), and secondly from a utility point: Your climb speed is an asset most of the time, but it does set you up for doubly painful situations if someone can make you fall while you're climbing (for instance, greasing the surface you're on, or toppling spells hitting you and knocking you loose). Feather fall works well to negate at least part of that risk, in that even if you're knocked free, you won't splatter when hitting the ground.

Not in use

I'd thought of Intimidate - and might throw a few points at it, but it's less his style.

Zadlu is Medium size though (his cacodaemon familiar is tiny, but Venedaemons are Medium) - so would only get the penalty on bigguns.

I'm thinking Profession (Lawyer) might be useful in the Blood War - what with all the infernal contracts floating around and all... - also maybe a bit of Disguise so I can combine it with Alter Self (spell) to appear humanish rather than a tentacled cthulu lover.

Giant Friendly Talking Spider

Forget intimidate, Profession (lawyer) is perfect!

Alter self is only 1 minute/level... with disguise self you could appear as any sort of Outsider, including the good ones and the more human-like ones. Toss in notdetection and you've got a heck of a disguise...

@Abdiel: Yeah, all that is why feather fall made my short list. I'll probably end up going with it, I just love unseen servant as a utility spell. I'd definitely take it if I had another 1st level spell slot, but I don't think I can squeeze it into the 5 I have. True Strike is the only thing I'd consider dropping...

Giant Friendly Talking Spider

I'm traveling back home from vacation over the next few days... I'll probably be able to post during that time but there are no guarantees about my internet access.

Oh, and notdetection = nondetection. Not sure how I missed that.

Giant Friendly Talking Spider

@GM: Any thoughts on when this game will be starting?

Female Lyrakien Half-Fiend (outsider(native), azata, extraplanar, evil) Monk(Martial Artist+)/1 - Cleric(Crusader)/3

I have seen comments about the 11th, not sure though. I am pretty sure that one player at least will not be home from the christmas/summer break until then.

As I said, I'm waiting to find out the final bits of information about my move. I could be moving as soon as this weekend.

If all goes well I will be moving Saturday. Good news is that while packing up my D&D books I found about six more books I have with information on the Blood War, so I've set those aside to unpack first.

Not in use

Good luck with the move! I'll have my tentacled sorcerer completely finished by the time you unpack :)

Zadlu is open to suggestions for spells. Essentially I'm looking for battlefield control / shutdown type spells with an emotional bent, plus a few direct blasting spells. Want to synergize with Tia too, so we don't have too much overlap.

Ones I'm thinking of currently:

Spoilered for Length:
1st Level:
Bungle
Lock Gaze - single target debuff
Magic Missile
Ray of Enfeeblement - single target debuff

2nd Level:
Frigid Touch - in case someone gets close to me.
Disguise Other - serves for disguise, plus cover for any of our group who can't disguise themselves
Oppressive Boredom - single target lockdown
Scorching Ray - Direct Damage, though probably suboptimal due to it being fire damage.

3rd Level:
Haste - never a bad choice
Howling Agony - multiple creature debuff
Ray of Exhaustion - single target debuff

Female Lyrakien Half-Fiend (outsider(native), azata, extraplanar, evil) Monk(Martial Artist+)/1 - Cleric(Crusader)/3

As I mentioned above, I think that Magic Missile together with a Rod of Toppling Spell is a killer combo. Do 1d4+1 damage to 1-5 enemies and trip them all so that the front line gets free AoO attacks. Since the Rod of Toppling Spell only costs 3k, it is more than worth it in my book.

Also, anything that Freedom of Movement averts is good as I could move through the area trapping enemies. Web is one that I know works this way although Tia already has Web.

Male Imp (Outsider, Lawful, Evil, Extra-Planar) Ninja 2

Hmm... Have you considered Haunting Mists? AoE Wisdom damage, shaken, and concealment for a second level slot always seems like a bargain to me, and it does seem to be kind of up the emotional alley you're looking for.

I also tend to think that someone should know Protection from Good or Magic Circle against good. Call me paranoid, but I worry we'll be going up against paladins.

Female Lyrakien Half-Fiend (outsider(native), azata, extraplanar, evil) Monk(Martial Artist+)/1 - Cleric(Crusader)/3

I can get the protection from evil/good spells.

Not in use

Haunting Mists definitely made the shortlist... the only question I had was that it is indiscriminate, so will hit our guys as well as them.

It does combo quite well with Vision of Hell though...

Well, folks, I do apologize, but it seems my move has been pushed back a week. Unfortunately all of my material is already boxed up so I can't jump into the game like I was hoping to. I really appreciate the patience and I hope to make up for the wait with an awesome game.

Male Imp (Outsider, Lawful, Evil, Extra-Planar) Ninja 2

Hmm... I hadn't considered the friendly fire issue too closely.

Male Hellcat

I got hit points and reflexes to spare a stray spell, but please don't target my will. I have done what I can to boost a monster's will, but it is still suffering.

Giant Friendly Talking Spider

I didn't notice any traits chosen on your character sheet, here are a few that might help:

Traits:
Demon Hunter (LE): Raised in the church (whether or not you are currently a follower), you’ve focused your indoctrinated fervor primarily on the elimination of demons. You gain a +3 trait bonus on Knowledge (planes) checks about demons and a +2 trait bonus on Will saves against mind-affecting spells and effects from demons.

Courageous: Your childhood was brutal, yet you persevered primarily through force of will and faith that no matter how hard things might get, as long as you kept a level head you'd make it through. You gain a +2 trait bonus on saving throws against fear effects.

Indomitable Faith: You were born in a region where your faith was not popular, but you never abandoned it. Your constant struggle to maintain your own faith has bolstered your drive; you gain a +1 trait bonus on Will saves as a result.

Natural-Born Leader: You've always found yourself in positions where others look up to you as a leader, and you can distinctly remember an event from your early childhood where you led several other children to accomplish a goal that each of you individually could not. All cohorts, followers, or summoned creatures under your leadership gain a +1 morale bonus on Will saves to avoid mind-affecting effects. If you ever take the Leadership feat, you gain a +1 trait bonus to your Leadership score.

I'm not sure how well some of them might fit what you have in mind for Chess's personality or past, but it never hurts to have options. Also, your SR should help against most effects that require a will save...

@Abdiel: The more I read up on toppling spell, the more I like it. I was thinking of taking quicken spell for my next feat, but toppling spell might trump it. I already have a 2nd level and a 3rd level force-effect spell...

Female Lyrakien Half-Fiend (outsider(native), azata, extraplanar, evil) Monk(Martial Artist+)/1 - Cleric(Crusader)/3

I think that Toppling is best with Magic Missile. Does not do much damage, but you can topple/trip up to 5 people (1/missile) and it uses your CL+Charisma(Wis/Int), so a nice CMB to boot. And it only uses a second level slot.

Giant Friendly Talking Spider

@GM: Would you allow me to buy a magic staff with starting wealth? Something like this:

Quote:

Staff of Air (lesser)

Unseen Servant 1 charge
Floating Disk 1 charge
Endure Elements 1 charge
Mage Armor 2 charges
Summon Monster II (small air elemental only) 3 charges

Price: 2,400gp, CL3

Male Hellcat

Thanks Tia. Missed the bit about including traits. The recruitment requirements got kind of strung out.

With the exception of a bag of holding type i I'd like to keep starting equipment magical or otherwise at 2,000gp or below. If you'd like to purchase a magical staff or wand, you may do so with reduced amount of charges to fit into the budget.

I apologize for the recruitment pages getting a bit wonky.

Giant Friendly Talking Spider

Cool. I bought it with 8 charges = 2400*.8 = 1920gp.

I really wanted both magic missile and unseen servant since Tia really would have no desire to take care of everyday boring, mundane tasks like cooking and cleaning by herself. The staff makes for a nice compromise, and fits in the Efficient Quiver for easy storage :)
