Returning Shield (Ex): At 5th level, a shield champion can throw a shield so it ricochets off her target (and possibly other solid objects) to return to her at the end of her turn. This ability functions whether or not the shield champion hits her opponent or moves on her turn. The shield deals no damage to targets it bounces off other than the original target of the shield champion’s attack. Other circumstances can prevent the shield from returning to the shield champion, such as an opponent using a readied action to catch the shield, or the shield sticking to a mimic’s adhesive. The shield champion can opt to not have a thrown shield return to her, in which case it falls to the ground as it normally would. If the shield has the returning weapon special ability, she can use either that or this ability.

If a shield champion has additional attacks from a high base attack bonus, these additional attacks can be ricochets off an earlier target. The distance to each additional target adds to the total range of the shield, and range penalties apply, but there are no additional penalties for attacking in this manner. Because ricocheting attacks are treated as separate attacks, effects and modifiers that only apply to one attack roll (such as true strike) only apply to the first attack and not to the others. A shield champion can throw a shield as part of a brawler’s flurry.

Close Weapon Mastery (Ex): When wielding a close weapon (shield), she uses the unarmed strike damage of a brawler 4 levels lower instead of the base damage for that weapon (1d6). If the weapon normally deals more damage than this, its damage is unchanged. This ability does not affect any other aspect of the weapon. The brawler can decide to use the weapon’s base damage instead of her adjusted unarmed strike damage - this must be declared before the attack roll is made.

I forgot to ask... do we need to buy any group healing or other items? Maybe a Bag of Holding? We have a little over 12kgp, so throwing 5kgp at a bag of holding might be a decent investment.

I think that would be good, though is there a big difference not to get 2-3 more Handy Haversacks over a single Bag of Holding? Outside of teh weight it holds.

We also need some sort of way to deal with special circumstances: Flying creatures, invisiblity, ect.

Well a Handy Haversack holds 120lbs, weighs 5lbs, and costs 2kgp. I proposed a group purchase Type II which holds 500lbs, weighs 25lbs, and costs 5kgp.

I'm fine spreading the load though and just getting haversacks on an individual basis. But we should each consider getting one as much as we're dragging along. :)

As for flying, I do have a bow for really long range, and for real emergencies, plan to buy a potion of flying this time around. For invisibility I'm stuck.

That is true I am good with either as we have been having some difficulty carrying everything.

Balodek, as for purchasing, I have armor and a shield I want to improve (at least... maybe a belt too). Can I pay the difference as usual, or do I need to sell back my +1 stuff to buy +2 stuff? I'm less certain what our contact in the underdark can/will do for us and unsure about downtime coming up.

Given some time, Krowe can improve enchantments on weapons, armors, and wondrous items.

Probably the best thing to do is have Krowe enchant them. On the one hand I don't want you to fall behind on WBL, but you're also supposed to be the scrappy underdogs hiding in the woods so I don't want to make it too easy. Having to find the time between everything else going on is the right balance I think.

I'll review the beginning of Book 3 again and have a main post worked up by tomorrow, should give Faolan time to level as well.

We have very few healing resources that are not powered by madness in human form. A few wands of CLW would be keen.

A wand of infernal healing would be very efficient for out of combat healing.

Yeah very true Krowe, but I'm not sure Faolan would dig being evil while it works. You'd have to convince him in character that was an OK thing, or just keep it from him, 'cause how would he know really.

We did buy four wands of CLW a little while ago, but I dunno who is tracking those, or how much is left.

I hear what you’re saying Faolan, but Krowe’s perception of good and evil are complicated. He wouldn’t claim a wand of infernal healing is anything but a wand that regenerates wounds, and I’m not sure a recipient uneducated in such magic would know, or feel, evil from using it.

Works for me, but if Faolan does find out, he'll complain. He's no paladin, and I don't mean to be difficult, but he's less complicated. :)

How many wands should we get? Who's tracking the CLW stuff we have now, and how much is left? I also have a ton of potions I'm going to start using to thin Faolan's pack.

If we got them, I'm also missing that.

It's possible that we did order them and get them, but if so, I'm missing that and we haven't used them at all yet.

We should probably order 4 more and I'll track the 4 we ordered, if we did, but I'm failing a search on 'CLW' and 'wand' to find that order, much less the getting of them.
