Absalom in Shadow (InnRoads) Chapter 1 - In my Time of Waking

Game Master Song of Chiroptera

There is a new darkness taking shape in the city. It's tendrils are stretching forth to greet the waiting world outside.

Karl & Phedron

We'll have to rework that seen a little bit, the rules were off just a smidge...

Work out your PM communication and then let me know how you want to proceed.

For all, I'll have some basic guidelines set up this weekend for player versus player action.

Sorry guys, real life got in the way. I HAD to get hay cut this weekend and I had two pieces on equipment break... so I spent all weekend trying to track this down... and my wife was sick and my brother needed us to watch is son. And the battery went dead in the truck. XD

That is my understanding as well. He is standing there brooding, thinking dark thoughts... and totally confusing Beckett's dualistic view of the world... :)

And that summer finally decided to show up didn't help. Plus the belt they gave me for the haybine wasn't the right belt. The part's "correct" but it isn't going to fit. I think I figured it out now, but everything's closed now. Not a "bad" weekend but it could have been smoother.

And please do. It's been a challenging couple of weeks. I'm glad I have tomorrow off.

Short reply, but I'll post more when/if this scene has concluded. :D Again, sorry for the delay. People were posting like mad. Just as well really, it rained most of the day Saturday. At least I'm not counting on it to live.

You guys are the fuel in the engine.

Posts coming soon. I've been cooking up a few things and also was blessed with a visit from my gaming group for some Pathfinder action.

Gotta say the scene in the dining hall and even Lavios and Drogan's solo posts were a great surprise to return to today.

Last but not least, for PvP conflicts going forward, I should have had this laid out at the onset. So as we move onwards and down...err, upwards, if there's any in character conflict that could resolve into open conflict, be sure to negotiate between each other and then clue me in on the basics (I like surprises too).

Again, great job you guys.

PS, Phedron, you sound like a handy guy to have around. Hope things resolved well for you this weekend.

Getting to play. We've managed to keep the same campaign running for about 4 years with us getting together roughly once every two months. Also, my group is a little crazy where we've elected to play two characters each. I've got a human barbarian from Isger and an elven bard. You know them, Kheegan and Hal'dorel.

I like machines and I can't afford to pay anyone else to work on them XD So it's worked out. And I can only spend so much time behind a lens or a computer screen.

Drives my wife nuts though. I like staying busy most of the time... she's at the other end of that. But the boys give her no quarter so her casual days are behind her for a while, ahahaha!

Ah drat. That sucks. :(

I've been there as well. It's pretty heartbreaking to watch teary eyed folks carrying their personal effects out of the building.

One particularly bad company, I used to work for, actually laid two people off by mailing a FedEx envelope to their home. But the delivery didn't arrive until after they left for work, so their wives had to call them to tell them that they had been let go. What a mess.

I hate to hear that. That's such a rough thing. We will keep them in our prayers tonight. It's a lot of uncertainty, particularly with the economy the way it is now (at least out where I live).

Hopefully they have some prospects in mind.

hey gang, I'll be moving the story on to the next phase - leaving the prologue behind! - where we'll be taking to the high seas and southern Taldor to investigate Demgazi and the possible origins of this mysterious cult.

From what I'm reading, Beckett, Nosa, Drogan and Lavios are ready to go. I'm pending posts from Karl and Phedron to wrap up their side business.

Let me know of there's supplies you'd like before departure. Prices are going to be 75% off of list price. So if you're shopping for wands (clw, etc.) this would be the time to shop. Haggling get is fine, just roll me a diplomacy/appraise check.

see you in the boards.

More apologies for the delay. The week turned like a peach on the sun. A couple family dilemmas, work and some InnRoads duties sapped what little brain power I had the last two days.

In the meantime, be sure to let me know if there are any purchases you'd like to consider prior to the journey south. The area to which you'll be traveling is near the southern border of Taldor where it faces Qadira. While the lands in Qadira are dry and arid, the borderlands do hold spots of more fertile and temperate climes.

Thought you guys would like the descriptions...

For the gold situation with Drogan dividing up the gold spoils the should be 436 Gold for each of you. Now some of that gold has Absalom currency mixed into it, but it'll spend fine in Cassomir.

You can also outfit in Golsiphar, albeit without the 10% discount Olfrey is offering now.

So far I have Beckett and Drogan purchasing a CLW potion each. 45 gp each with discount

So my birthday came and went this past weekend and with it came a new haul of games.

First, I picked up Sentinels of the Multiverse and the Shattered Timelines expansion. Boy do I love this game. I can't believe that it took me this long to get it. The theme is just awesome and the characters are really well done. Each feels very distinct and plays so different. The environment cards are great and each villian is unique and cool. Gameplay is very easy at first, then ramps up as the game goes along and you are managing a whole bunch of effects. I'm at about a 50% win rate right now playing solo.

Then just today two more games showed up.

Pathfinder the Adventure Card Game: Skull and Shackles.

I love the Rise of the Runelords game so I couldn't help but pick this one up when I saw that it was about 40% off on Amazon. The game gives a nice, mild rpg feel to fill in the gaps when you are not really playing an rpg. I haven't gotten the new one to the table yet, but I have heard that it is favorable to the first with a few new rules added in. Looking forward to some new classes and characters to play.

Finally I also got Shadowrun Crossfire (sensing a theme in my purchases?). This game is also fantastic! It is another deckbuilder (though there really is not a lot of deckbuilding going on) that tries to capture a little of the feel of an rpg. You can level up as you go and gain new and more powerful abilities. Holy cow is this game tough!!! I played 4 solo runs tonight, playing with 2 runners, and got my butt handed to me 3 times. That is ok though as I don't mind the challenge. The one issue I can see with this one is a lack of missions to start the game. It is screaming for expansions.

On top of all that, I sold some of my Kickstarter exclusive Zombicide stuff on ebay and got a nice haul for it so I have a pile of cash in my pocket waiting to be spent on some more games. I'll be going to a board game auction in West Chester, PA on Saturday with high hopes of scoring some deals.

Anyway, just wanted to share about some great new games. I don't really have any gaming buddies nearby, so I needed someone to share with :)

Hope all is well with everyone and theirs!

Planning on shoving off aboard the Landless Gentry this evening. For RP purposes I'll leave it open for side story development for things like the following:
》Beckett - Possible closure with Bromathan prior to departure
》Karl - Any additional finishes with your local peeps. I think you finished it off, just want to be sure
》Phedron - Finish you conversation with Carnon, laying out your plans as he'd requested a few posts back.
》Lavios - Haven't forgotten about you, brother, I've got something planned for that perception check you rolled. But I think it'll be more appropriate for when you're all boarding the ship
》Drogan & Nosa - I think you're all set, but check me if I'm wrong

Lastly, I'm going to get you guys set up on your voyage and them open it up for inter-pc role play. Reason being I'll be going on vacation on 10/2 for a week and may not be hitting the boards too frequently (but I'll try). I want to get a good momentum as we head into Demgazi.

@ Nosa, how is the school year going?

@ Phedron, are things looking good on the farm? I come from a family with a long history in orchards and the wheat lands of the Palouse in Washington. One of my uncles still has a Cherry Orchard near Richland, WA. He is growing pie, big and some other cherry type which is a big money maker in Asia.

@Drogan, what are your thoughts on 5th Edition vs Pathfinder?

@ Lavios, How's school going? How much more time do you have to go and what kind of degree are you going for?

As for me I have been quite busy with my girls. They are in swim, horseback riding, gym, dance, and one of them is VERY 2 years old right now. Work is steady trucking along and I just turned 40. I have been working early to late five days a week and at least 7am to midnight every Friday so it was time to use some of that OT money . . .

My family went to Disneyland this last Sunday to see the Nightmare before Christmas transformation they do on a number of the rides and attractions it was pretty cool. They had a live musical/techno show called The Magical Map over by Its a Small World (ahhhhhhhhh the singing! Save verses Willpower or lose 1d4+1 sanity points) it incorporates what must be multiple super HHD screens with what looked like some kind of passive 3d effect that the audience doesn't need glasses for. It was pretty cool.

The girls waited in line to see Princess Belle from Beauty and the Beast, but got cut in line so they were not going to get to pose with her for a picture. This was obviously upsetting to them both. The characters by CA law can only perform so long before they have to "go offstage" The princess, who looked and acted the part in everyway, took the girls by the hands and let them walk with her down Main Street to the stage door and talked to them the whole way. Tears disappeared and it was so much more exciting that just getting to pose for a picture.

Unfortunately we planned our visit on the same day as 3rd Annual Tiki Day, the worlds biggest gathering of tropical theme enthusiasts and Hawaiian shirt fans or something like that. Adventure Land was wall to wall people and Pirates of the Caribbean was inaccessible to us, but we got on many other rides and caught the pumpkin carving masters contest display.

Hoped over to CA Adventure. Cars land is amazing at night as is the Cars ride. We got on the Little Mermaid ride and rode it back to back without having to get off since my youngest was so enthusiastic and begged the operator to let her see Ariel "one more time peas." We finished up at the Mad Hatters Tea Party Dance Party, WOW what a production, made me wish I was hip enough to get out there and boogie, but I just felt old and don't know how to twerk. We rode Monsters Inc. loaded the strollers and headed out for pizza and then a log drive home. I was tired Monday, but so worth it.

Magic only lasts so long in little kids lives. I hope to remember the looks on their faces til the end of mine.

Thanks to you DM for such a good story. I look forward to see the development of the story and the characters as we move on to the high seas and to a place with the flavor of Ancient Egypt. I loved the 1999? Movie, "The Mummy" that's what I am picturing in my head a bit.

I apologize if I post bomb you guys too much, but you guys are my escape, my church, and my cyber buddies.

No worries about the post bombs Master Marsh!

As far as school is concerned, things are going a little...uneven...at the moment. The kids are great, but we have been given a bunch of new directives this year that has really slowed down the start of the school year. I love my job and can't imagine doing anything else, but there are some things about it that really drive me nuts (not the actual teaching but the other crap).

Gaming is definitely a release for me and this pbp is a big part of that. I am one of the many who just doesn't have much by way of friends to game with. The friends I do have that game are at least 45 minutes away so getting together is tough. I do a lot of solo gaming, which can be fun but is never the same.

Sounds like you had a great day at Disney. Definitely treasure those memories because before you know it your girls will be growing up and ready to learn to drive. My daughter turned 15 this year and it is getting tougher and tougher to relate. I have more in common with her than my wife does though. She is a big Anime nut and loves to cosplay and watch geek shows and movies, so we still share that which is cool.

I picked up Descent: Journeys in the Dark Second Edition and I love it. Just another game I wish I had a game group to play with though...

I think 5e is much more streamlined. Fewer things to worry about. That being said, it would all depend on the experience you're going for.

Streamlined is great, but it also leads to less options in some ways. Personally - it's 6 of one, half a dozen of the other for me. They're both good, but if I HAD to pick, probably 5e would edge out.

And Yeah - I can't wait to mess with Luke the flower-child over my dead sprite in a jar. ;)
