Turn tries to fix the knowledge Plane/spellcraft portal, taking 10 for a 20 on each roll. Skalds can take 10 on knowledge rolls.
I think I have this one figured out. he notes working quickly.
Not sure if that succeeds or not. Sorta need to know before trying it again. And I am not completely sure about the mechanic here. There are 6 portals, but one is broken. But there are only 4 approaches to repair. If any approach can fix any portal and the 20 fixed a portal he will use knowledge planes again to fix a second one.

Ok so after failing once with a take 10 can he switch to trying with a roll? if so here are three rolls. If not use the first two.

Simon continues his work; attempting to remove the power cells from the other portals.
For Simon's first action, he will attempt to Take 10 for 25 UMD on Portal 4.
If successful, he will do the same for his second action and Take 10 for 25 UMD on Portal 5.
Basically trying to narrow down the relative difficulty of these tasks. Good idea, Turk*!

![]() |

It quickly becomes apparent that Kujo is lost. Whether it's the technology or the fact that the tasks do not involve the use of his new adamantine greatsword, or any greatsword, is not clear. Kujo simply stands there as if waiting for someone to tell him what to do.
To speed this, I'm officially authorizing anyone in the party to tell Kujo what and where to act and to roll on his behalf. Character sheet linked to name on profile. STR +5, Survival +7.

Do we have any e-picks?
"It may be best to finish the some completely..." suggests Vrald.
He puts his fingers to work on the delicate wires of the first portal, seeing if he can wind the conductors. If he succeeds, he'll move onto the second and hopefully he can at least aid-another on one - we really need a rogue for this encounter!
dex: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

Woo-hoo Hero dice roller. Someone has to try and aid-another on me here if this is not good enough, best chance we're going to get I think.

GM Rutseg |

After his first failure, Turk* places himself to work seriously. He quickly identifies the runes in portals 1 and 3, but by when he finishes with the 4th he is quite tired and his work is slower. He spends 10 minutes to finish the work.
Simon is taking calmly the work of removing the magical protections on the adhesive of the cells, but the work is fruitful. By the time others are finishing his tasks, he is still working on his, he will finish it by sure, but a help in the shape of rude strength would make the cells to be removed faster.
Vrald starts working on unplugging the wires in the portals. At first he looks at the task not having any idea of how to do it. But pressed by the time he starts removing the wires from all their connections very effectively.
Portal 1: wires unplugged, cells removed, dampeners set, runes joined

Busy weekend, you guys were quite active!
If I'm reading this correctly, we need an aid on the wires on portal 3, is that why it's in parens?
Contessa watches Vrald go to work on the first portal and quickly begins to mimic his action on the next set of wires once she has the requirements down.

Kujo's help makes Simon finish removing the cells considerably faster.
Khamûl finds dampeners for the 4th portal as well.
Meanwhile Contessa helps finishing Vrald with the wires in portal 3rd and unplugs the wires in portal 4th herself, demonstrating great dexterity.
Portal 1: wires unplugged, cells removed, dampeners set, runes joined
Portal 3: wires unplugged, cells removed, dampeners set, runes joined

Ten minutes after reaching the console, Tig-0 interrupts you with an astounding revelation "Interrupt your work. The Machine Mage Karamoss ordered the destruction of the Forge and the entire Red Redoubt!"
"Override codes accepted. Deactivating the interdimensional failsafe that has been keeping the portals in check." he turns towards you and orders "New designation: Reverse your work and prepare the portals to overload once more. Confirm new designation."

Kujo draws his adamantine sword. Maybe he just misses the feel of it in his hands, or maybe he thinks a recent friendship is about to sour. The chronicles that recorded the events were never clear on this specific topic.

Khamul looks up from his work with a worried look on his face. "I think this salamander might have gotten to our friend in the same way he's gotten to the other 'malfunctioning' robots. This is not how I wanted Tig-O's story to end."

![]() |

Sensing Tig-0's clearly hostile intent, Simon reluctantly prepares for battle. "All right, Tig. We had some good times, my friend." He says sadly.
Simon uses his Move Action to move up 30' and get within 30' of Tig-0. He uses his Swift Action to target Tig-0 with Hypnotic Stare. Although Tig-0 is a robot, Simon can still affect all enemies immune to Mind-Affecting due to Psychic Inception.
Hypnotic Stare Effects: -2 to Will Saves, -2 to Attack Rolls, enables Painful Stare 1/Round, can affect enemies immune to Mind-Affecting effects (Psychic Inception).
Painful Stare Effects: +3 additional precision damage the first time the enemy takes damage in a round (totaled from triggering attack before applying DR). Additional damage increased by +2d6 if increasing the Mesmerist's own damage.
For his Standard Action Simon casts Glitterdust on Tig-0, unsure of Tig-0's capabilities, but knowing that it at least does not allow for Spell Resistance.
Glitterdust Effects: Spell Resistance: No; 170' Range; 10' Radius Spread; 7 Round Duration; DC 17 Will Save vs. Blinded Condition (New save at the end of every round); Affected enemies are covered with glitter for the full duration regardless of save, the glitter fully outlines invisible creatures and gives a -40 penalty to Stealth checks.

"Ahhh, Tiggo! Blasted! I really liked that guy."

Posting now, but Kujo will accept Turk's rage song, if offered, and use his own stats. Also will wait for Contessa to flank.
Kujo wastes a furtive glance at the others, perhaps wondering whether anyone saw him miss his leap. Undaunted, the barbarian climbs +12 so auto succeed up and takes a position opposite Contessa, striking with fury.

Turk, while also saddened that they must fight Tig-0, is resigned to do so. He begins his raging song and also begins to close the distance between himself and the robot.
Note this is before Kujo takes his second round so Kujo can accept rage and do a little more damage, plus get the lesser spirit totem attack as well.
Slam: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 201d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 I did not modify the attack because Tig-0 is blind and will let the GM do that. Negative energy damage

Simon makes a mental note that Glitterdust affects robots like Tig. As Tig is already blind, he risks a different spell to gauge similar defenses.
Simon will attempt to cast Ill Omen on Tig. Spell Resistance does apply to this spell, as does Spell Immunity if Tig has it. Because of Psychic Inception, it can possibly affect Tig despite being Mind-Affecting. It has a 50% chance per round of working. 7 Round Duration, but only the very first two applicable rolls.
Ill Omen Effects: SR: Yes; No Saving Throw; 40' Range; Enemy must roll twice on their next 2 d20 rolls and take the lowest. If the enemy is able to identify the spell, such as from Spellcraft, they can spend a Move Action to negate one reroll per Move Action.
Sorry for the complexity of this ability, GM Rutseg. Please let me know if you would like me to elaborate.

GM Rutseg |

Turk* starts his inspiring song of rage, even without much spirit on the task, it causes its effects.
Kujo climbs to the dais with ease, while dark spirits surround him. He delivers a powerful blow over the blind Tig-0 that breaks through its plating even if part of the damage is absorbed by it.
Fort DC 15: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Some of the circuits seem over affected by the sudden system failures, staggering the robot even if it seems to react properly to the hit.
The dark spirits around Kujo seem to ignore the robot not seeing it as a living being. Even when one touches accidentally the robot, the negative energy seems not effective on the special construct.
Vrald moves fast to the dais climbing it even with his heavy armor.
Khamûl missiles' impact on Tig-0 but the force damage hardly goes through it's hard surface and causes a mere scratch on it.
Tig-0 turns towards Kujo "General system failures coming from this side" and attacks, but he seems very slow and only reaches to attack once before the party keeps the assault.

Just remembered mirror image does not apply on blinded attackers. But I will not apply the damage retrospectively on Contessa either, because I forgot the hypnotic stare malus that would have made the attack to fail anyway
Fooled by the dust in his visual sensors Tig-0 fails to find Kujo's body with his slam, instead hitting the control panel.

Everybody can act. Contessa can act twice as she had no time to post her round 2 actions.

Despite the obvious rage gripping the barbarian, the shuddering and slowed movement of the robot does not go unnoticed. Perhaps it is the same state of grace which prevents a barbarian from being caught flat footed, or perhaps Kujo simply fears what he does not understand, but there is clearly a look of apprehension creeping across the face of the Shoanti.
Going to wait for Contessa to get her two attacks, as I suspect that may preclude Kujo's activity.

R2: Adamantine Piercing+Rage: 1d20 + 13 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 13 + 1 = 21

Kujo's amazing attack sent sparks flying her direction, half blinding her and once again causing her attack to be a little further off center mass than she would like.

Not the best of two attacks I'm afraid.

The rage leaves Kujo's eyes and is replaced with purpose. Kujo whirls around and tumbles in an act of avoidance and clutching his greatsword in one hand pulls a chakram in the other. The barbarian retreats behind the console for cover as he seems to wave his arms as if suggesting one should move away.

Oh, sorry GM Rutseg, I missed that part too. Yes, Mirror Images doesn't work if they can't see the Image (or if they see through it, like True Seeing, of course). Sometimes it may even be mathematically advantageous to close your eyes when swinging for 50% miss chance, depending on how many Images they have. Silly, but kind of cool.
This is the last of my spell power for Glitterdust... may need to burn my more powerful spells to fuel them. Simon thinks to himself.
Simon will use his last Level 2 Spell Slot to again cast Glitterdust on Tig-0, seeing that there's enough room to catch him without affecting allies.
For future battles, it is my understanding you can use higher level slots for lower level spells if you're spontaneous, but the DC remains the same (without Heighten)?

Khamul frowns to himself as his spell proves ineffective. I have stronger spells that will certainly do more... I should not let my feelings for the robot intrude upon my judgement. Turk* climbs to the dais while Contessa strikes once and again on the robot's core chest while it is still suffering to recover from Kujo's critical strike. Simon's painful stare makes Contessa's rapier to go even deeper into the plating.

Simon casts another glitterdust carefully catching only the robot in the area.
Will-stare DC 17: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 9 - 2 = 15
The dust covers once again the robot rendering his sensors blind!
Khamûl takes the opportunity to call for its magic creating a lighting bolt that roars all around the room hitting Tig-0 with a crackling sound. The electricity seems to go through the hardness of the robot's plate and affect its circuits with special violence.
The robot seems totally fried and up to collapse while smoke spirals raise all over the room from the machine creature.
Vrald profits the opportunity to jump over the robot to make it all small pieces after attack and attack.
Tig-0: 103 damage, Hypnotic stare, painful stare, destroyed

When Khamûl brings up the portals she frowns and nods. "Was that the good Tiggo or bad Tiggo that suggested that though? Is that helping or hurting our cause?"

![]() |

In friendly manner, Kujo waves off Simon's approach with the healing wand. Whether it is because the barbarian fears the interaction of two forces he does not fully comprehend or it is because he simply wants to see what happens with the bracelet, is not clear.
Intent here is to stop Simon from using a charge at this juncture as Kujo activated the bracelet before Simon's attempt to heal.

Vrald nods at his handy work. "I think it was Tig that malfunctioned." he says slowly. Then turns back to work on the portals.
