Picking a plebe from the flock you inquire about the Foehammer establishment, and are soon arriving. Location T18 on map. Feel free in future to assume any random person will point you to those

A small storefront is setup above ground with various implements, mostly those practical in farming and animal husbandry. There are some well crafted arms and armor though, as well. One stand sports what seems to be a memorial replica of a suit made for some nobility. A middle-aged dwarven woman seems to be responsible for this area. "Can I interest you in a giant-slaying battleaxe?" she asks sweetly. "They are designed to slice the Achilles tendon, you see..."

The smithy itself is underground, but partially exposed to the shop above, and looks very busy with small groups broken into various tasks of smelting and refinement, tinkering with pewter inlays, and of course hammer work.

Er, no ma'am, thank you anyway. We are looking for someone from clan...well, you see, our friend Odan Shan was...urm...killed while we were exploring, and we wanted to bring him back to his family. We were, um, told someone at the smithy, Master Foehammer, could help us.

Jysson stands awkwardly aside, varying between looking at the ground and looking at the clouds.

When the dwarf cries, he thinks to himself, I never knew dwarves were so emotional. They always say dwarves are stout and hardy, but every one I've met is an emotional wreck.

Chat her up as long as you want. You could also think about lodging for the night (stay at inn, drunken black out at bar, dig a hole, build treehouse in sacred grove, etc). If there's anything you'd like to do in town, let it be known. Then we will move on in the morning. ;)

Odan was indeed a good companion and died bravely. We have brought his remains to be laid at rest with his people. Where can we find them?

Gloriana waits for an answer and then asks, We are new to town and could use some recommendations of where to stay, if you don't mind.

AvernusArt 2Grid

She winces at the mention of falling from a tower "Damnit...he was always surefooted, I don't understand." after a moment she points to herself and says "Cinder Shan...I'm his second sister...you..you've got him, here? I can take him back to the clan chambers under the mountain. And I don't blame any of ye, he couldn't have lived any other life."

"I'm a bit new here, too...I had settled in Nightstone but it was beset, giants. Giant rocks falling from the sky...no one saw them coming, they rode silent chariots of clouds. No...not chariots, fully mobile fortresses."

"Uncle Foehammer here set me up in his shop. I've heard good things about The Talking Troll, if you drink enough you can sleep there in the common room." she doesn't seem to be joking.

Female Human Fighter/6, AC 16, HP 54, S +7, D +5, C +7, I +0, W +2, CH +2

I am Gloriana and these are my companions. She pauses for everyone to introduce themselves if they choose to do so. Do you wish us to accompany you to lay Odan to rest? We ventured to Nightstone and found it destroyed and was told of his kin being in Triboar. We came here...by way of a cloud giant's castle. A friendly, humble giant who took no part in the destruction of Nightstone. Have you heard any reasoning behind the attacks?

AvernusArt 2Grid

Incredulous "Friendly, humble giant? Only good giant is a felled giant. When those rocks fell, everyone died. Little ones, unarmed...didn't matter. Sounds like its happening everywhere. Back in Nightstone it seemed like they were after the actual Nightstone...eh, its this chunk of volcanic glass...ye know that one? Obsidian? 'Dragonsglass' some say. They lifted it from the ground before their killing was done."

Pindleton has been lost in thought, worried by some obviously strange happenings - giant attacks, dwarves, dragons, cultists attacking... there must be a connection... if only I could piece it together... oh, wait, what's happening?

Paying attention again, Pindle introduces himself, "I'm Pindleton Montague the... never mind. Just please be comforted in the knowledge that Odan was a brave warrior who gave his life stopping a vile creature."

"But, to the present difficulties, this 'Dragonglass' Nightstone, you say... I presume the town was named after it. Do you recall it's history? Anything unusual about it, other than, say, it's appearance? And... oh, and I am very sorry for your losses - both of Odan, and of your home. I... well... uh, you see, we are just trying to figure out what is happening with these giants, and any information can help with this puzzle - I mean, tragic situation."

I remember once an Athkatlan sage came and set up some kind of ritual about it. Made him real frustrated...kept using this word...'Historia'? No...'Ostoria'?"

AvernusArt 2Grid

The night began with good intentions in the Talking Troll but quickly spun into wild depravity. Cinder's "meal" consisted of roasted liver on long sticks, pickled eggs, and a mysterious stew...each of which gained points on the flavor scale the more ales put down.

On that front, none surpassed Montague IV. Sohar saw it coming and excused himself early, but Jysson spent most of the night getting the halfling's pants back where they belonged and narrowly prevented the impregnation of a woodlands half-breed.

In the end, Cinder was right: blacking out sometime around sunup was a relatively comfortable way to pass the night-the stench of vomit was imperceptible that way.

Sohar, the deeper you go into the forest the more you realize something is not right. That draw of nature you felt before was just an illusion, the work of some malevolent force lurking about. It would probably take a few more nights to pinpoint the exact source.

Just as your eyes open, they come.

The town is shaken from its peacefulness by the screams of women and children, followed by a man yelling, "Giants! Run!" Perplexed residents and shopkeepers emerge from their domiciles in time to see a large rock fall from the sky and crash onto an old cart, splintering it. As a cloud of dust erupts from the wreckage, a second rock hits the ground, tumbles through a fence, and slams against the wall of a building, startling a pair of mules tethered to a post nearby. All around you, people begin to shriek and scatter.

So, as mentioned there is a little gimmick/minigame to this massive giant battle. You will be playing both your character and one of the NPCs listed below (full stat blocks and RP info on slides...in a sec). You can earn special quests and rewards based on what happens to these special NPCs.

To start, I'll let you guys pick the NPC you want. Below is a short description and where they start on the town map (town map is battle map...its a huge assault). Everyone needs to pick a different NPC.

If 2 or more players want the same NPC, roll d100 high for it.

Darathra Shendrel, Lord Protector of Triboar (starts at area Tl)
Darz Helgar, campground caretaker (starts at area T2)
Narth Tezrin, Lionshield Coster representative (starts at area T6)
Urgala Meltimer, innkeeper and retired adventurer (starts at area TlO)
Othovir, harness-maker (starts at area Tll)
Ghelryn Foehammer, blacksmith (starts at area T18)

edit: Full details of the NPCs are on slides 5 and 6. If its hard to read, you can ctrl+alt+"+" to zoom in, or I can maybe post on internet somewhere in a different format. Once the NPCs are chosen I'll lay a larger town map for the battle on slide 1

edit2:for the moment, its hard to tell the exact nature of the attackers, but they seem to be coming from the northeast, from the farmlands labeled "F"

Sword in hand, Darathra comes out shouting orders to the town militia(?). The objective of Darathra is to save as many live as possible, but rushing to combat only means a sure defeat. So, She first tries organize the town defense.

Jysson

Jysson awakes to the sounds of boulders crashing.

What was that? he thinks to himself, as he rolls over in his cot. Again, the crash, and he bolts upright. The pain in his forehead becomes apparent immediately. Fuuuuuck, he moans at both his impending hang over and the prospect of giants attacking.

He gets out of bed, grabs his armor, drops his armor and grabs his flail. He quick walks across the room to Pindleton. Pindle, wake up! Come on, giants are attacking! Don't worry about armor, those rocks they throw don't care about anything we're wearing, just grab a weapon and go. We've got to get the people to safety.

Jysson leaves the room only when Pindleton is ready to go with him.

Darz
The campground caretaker lived in a little hut on the outskirts of the camp - a place close enough to his job that he didn't have to go far, but still allowed him to feel the psychological comfort of being in the town.

He woke up with a start, and immediately started grumbling to himself. Damn kids messing up my camp. I'll show them...

He got up, put on his pants and a shirt, and tucked his long knife into his back belt - this was out of habit, you always needed a shiv just in case. On his way out, he grabbed a cudgel to wallop the kids with.

As soon as he stepped outside, the cudgel dropped from his hands. He stood there in disbelief looking up at the giants attacking the town.

After a moment, his senses came back to him. Oh no you don't, he grumbled to himself. This here is my town. I spent ten thrice damned years in prison, and this is my respite. Ain't no one taking that away from me. Not the thieves guild, not the King's guards, and sure as hell not no thrice damned shit eating giants!

He grabbed his sling and tied it around an arm, before heading out. On his way, he passes a kid looking or his mum and pop. Find 'em yourself kid, I've got bigger problems.

Once he gets as close as he dares in the open, he finds a good spot to hide and starts sneaking his way closer - close enough to hit with his sling, and he'll only target someone who's already being ganged up on.

Sohar's night is not as restful as he had hoped. Unable to discern whether it's the subtle malevolence of the Grove or his own guilty conscience, he reacts to the sudden shouts in the town by speaking to the grove in Druidic, "I'll be back for you later."

"Wake and rise up in defiance,

Pindleton rubs his eyes and lets out a thoroughly unhappy moan. "Uhhh... sorry, that was so... unprofessional. Jysson, what are - GIANTS!" The halfling snaps awake.

He hurriedly puts on his winged boots, grabs his bow and quiver and starts to follow, then remembers to grab his backpack while muttering half to himself, "Healing potions... going to need those..."

He follows Jysson out and then flies up just high enough to see over the rooftops, but trying to not draw (giant) attention to himself.

When he gets there (since in terms of rounds, the above is probably a couple/few at least - Perception to try to determine how many attackers and their locations.

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

---------------------

Also, I will pick Urgala.

Urgala hears the screams and yells and is instantly alert. She had known this day might come very soon. With all of the stories of attacks across the region, she prayed they would avoid Triboar, but feared they would not.

She had reluctantly taken her weapons out of storage several days ago and she quickly put them on. As her muscle memory flashed back to her younger days, she felt ready to unleash hell again. But she also felt sore. A twinge in her shoulder that had been only a mild annoyance for years now jumped out to her as a weakness. She found her legs moved slower - not to mention she wasn't nearly as lean as her 20-year old self was.

It didn't matter. The giants were here. Here in her home.

They were destroying her town, killing her neighbors. It was time for those monsters to fear death. With all of the horror stories of what the giants did to other towns, Urgala wasn't sure she'd see the sun set tonight, but that no longer mattered.

Her neighbors were under attack. The giants were here.

And Urgala was going to unleash hell on them one more time.

Wow, some awesome writeups there. :D

Guys I'll put some tokens down on the main slide based on your narratives, but bear in mind the scale is way off. As shown, your tokens are about 20 ft across. Init wont start unless you/NPC directly attack or are attacked. There could be multiple inits running at once.

Seth
The bulk of the commotion seems to be coming from behind the harness shop across the street...at least, most people seem to be running away from that location. Who knows if they are wise to run that direction.

Daratha
Her cries were meant for particular ears, but there is no response. Someone informs her "They've gone! They charged the Uthgardts overnight, we are defenseless!" Regardless, a few hearty individuals step forward, unarmed, willing to follow her to hell.

Jysson
Jysson's elven metabolism helps him quickly gather his things and his thoughts for battle.

Darz
With the empty lot nextdoor (T7) Darz can quickly sneak to a group of trees near the approaching attackers.

Sohar
From the grove, Sohar has to hustle, but can soon enough get into the fray with the others.

Ghelryn
The dwarve's battlecry rallies the other smithworkers into a small squadron of slayers...they quickly don the best armor they can and move to engage.

Pindleton
Details below. Also both you and Urgala have inspiration for the awesome writeup there.

Urgala
She strides forward through the crowd determined.

All
PCs or NPCs who try to identify the attackers are unfortunatly able:

2 fire giants armed with tree-sized greatswords (18 ft tall) [white]
5 orogs (orc/ogre crossbreed) [orange]
6 orc mounted on axebeaks (Remember chocobo from final fantasy? Yes...) [green]
12 magmins (small fire elementals) [red circles]

The giants are moving toward the center of town, tossing boulders as the come. The magmins, in 2 groups of 6 eagerly flicker around them...destroying any structure or anyone in their way. The orogs are plate mail clad and closest (ahead of the giants), knocking down fences and tearing horses in half (sometimes only figuratively).

AvernusArt 2Grid

Since battlemap is getting kind of cluttered, your NPCs will just be colored squares.

Daratha - dark blue
Darz - purple
Ghelryn - orange
Urgala - sky blue

Other various townsfolk are all over as well, clustered around all the Cs and Fs. Plenty of able steeds available as well if interested in mounted combat.

I'm on my phone so those options aren't available to me. However, I opened it up with a different program and that worked. When I load it with Google docs, all it shows is the red blood splatter background and our five characters in a row on the top right.

When I loaded it with a different program, the full map showed.

Also, now that I can actually see the map, some of my descriptions about where Draz was located don't make sense. :) I had assumed the campground would be on the outskirts of the town, not right smack in the middle of it.

With that, Jysson heads straight* for the giants, only slowing to defend against attacks and removing himself from the immediate threat until he gets to the giants themselves. This idiot is going to get himself killed. Lol.

Magmin 1 Touch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
dmg: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4 fire
Magmin 1 Touch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14

Still none of the dwarves fall. "Pussies all, slay 'em boys!"

Their counterattack is swift and coordinated, like a machine. Nearly simultaneously, one of the magmin is targeted.

dwarf fury:

Gdwarf: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

dmg: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Ghelryn Multi: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

They weapons hit the charred bodies of the elementals like a pickaxe hit granite, there is much resistance. Still, the overwhelming attack brings the magmin down.

None saw what happened next coming. The downed magmin slowly started expanding until it burst into a boiling bubble of red hot magma!

Ghelryn: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (19) - 2 = 17
Orog: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10

In a twist of fate only the Orog gets hit with the full force of splashing magma, and the dwarves cheer as they reassemble the shield wall.

Eh, and I realize I didn't roll init for Seth or Daratha's group. Oops, will just pick it up next time. Guess it doesn't really matter with group initiative other than who swings first situations.

Jysson dashes over to the one house to hide behind, and makes his way to some shrubbery, only to find a human there launching a sling.

He sneaks up behind the man, and says, Attacking from the shadows, huh? Good call.

Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 8

Woah! the man says, Where did you one from?

Jysson, despite his lacking a tactical mind, is actually fairly good at reading people. Just got to town. Name's Jysson, and I'm here to kill those giant f+!~ing a$$#&*$s over there.

I'm Darz, says the man. And I ain't letting no damned giant take my home. Thanks for the help. How 'bout you charge in and I'll cover you from here.

Jysson smiles, and says, Now that's a damn fine idea. He grips the handle of his flail, readies himself, and dashes out heading straight for the nearest giant.

Darz, despite being selfish, is true to his word and does his best to fire at any orc how tries to get into Jysson's way.

Hopefully that wasn't too confusing. How many rounds will it take to get to the giant?

AvernusArt 2Grid

Not confusing. :) At the moment you are 120 ft away. The giants are advancing full speed, so if you Dash, you would probably meet them next round.

Narth Tezrin nearly cuts his throat when the first rock crashes into town. He flings the razor aside, wiping the soap from the unshaved half of his face as he runs to the door and assesses the situation. Cursing, Narth turns and runs for his room > strapping on his shortsword and grabbing his hand crossbow and a quiver of bolts.
With a swift prayer to Tymora, the Lady of Luck, he dashes out the door, heading for Northshield House, knowing Urgala will be needing a hand.

Pindleton creates an illusion of several archers emerging from the Talking Troll who begin firing arrows at the giants. Pindleton hopes in the chaos no one notices that the arrows don't go very far before vanishing, but he just wants distractions, even only for a moment.

He then uses his winged boots to fly to the roof of the Talking Troll and take aim at the giants.

----------------------

Urgala sees the chaos and spots a small opening towards the apothecary. Tucking her bow under her and trying to hide it somewhat in her coat, she runs towards the space between the apothecary and the burning trees, huddled over as if she's fleeing in terror for her life.

Jysson/Darz----------

Jysson boldy advances to meet the oncoming giant forces.

Sohar/Ghelryn----------

Seth isn't adjacent, but you can count Daratha's forces or any fighting townsfolk as allies for the sake of Pack Tactics here. However...

As Sohar-Lion claws and bites the orc apart, dethroning it from the charging axebeak, shocks of horror rise in the crowd "What is that, a freaking dire bobcat?!" some take cover.

That orc is dead. :D

Farther north, Ghelryn finds the Orog's plate is a hearty barrier to his slashing. AC 18 there

In contrast the Orog finds a gap in the dwarven wall, slaying one of the younger fighters. The remaining Magmin laughs at the death, sending its touch of fire licking across the stalwart warriors...

Magmin Fire Touch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

...but the dwarven shields are used to flame. They push hard to eliminate the remaining magmin while Ghelrun keeps the orog engaged.

Their spears puncture some bizzare organ like a mudpit, but the magmin still stands. Sohar, feel free to order/roll for the other fighters if you want. They are following Ghelryn as their leader.
3 guards and 1 veteran remaining with Ghelryn up there.

Gloriana/Darth---------

Gloriana is sure her attacks were lethal, but the magmin remains. It must have some hidden resistance against normal weapons.

Actually that first one was a crit. If you roll the second damage dice and get better than a 4 it dies.

Narth moves to join Urgala, cutting around the small pond, but finds her inn has been vacated. Narth is green square on map

Pindleton/Urgala----------

Pindleton steps into the sky and quickly finds himself ready for action up on the rooftop.

Urgala's deception manages to fool the charging axebeaks, eager to continue their blitz.

Guessing you are about to attack. Init is getting a bit confusing, but I think we are at the point where it doesn't matter.
Narth and Urgala will probably need it if they attack, but everyone else we can just flip flop with enemies (PCs, enemies, PCs, etc)

All
And the remaining enemies not otherwise engaged continue to advance towards the town's center.

Jysson's training pays off, the first blow is solid and somewhat surprises the giant. The giant looks down, a slight smirk on his face "Awww, hello little girl. Did you come to GET SQUASHED?!" Darz's shot bounces harmlessly off his dark steel plate pauldron.

He throws an enormous granite stone directly at Jysson's face.

Jysson was ready for the hulk's clumsy attack, and stunningly flips clear.

Fire Giant has 18 AC, 151/162 hp currently. You have a large structure to your left, the now burning harness shop, which is helping you avoid getting swarmed. Keeping your face off against this foe might be possible without getting too swarmed if you can hold out. You could also perhaps escape in the abandoned house one lot behind you, but it catching fire next is probably a safe bet.

Thankful that the attackers ignored her, Urgala moves to the other side of the burning trees, hoping to use them as some semblance of cover from the main invading force.

One giant looked focused on attacking someone at it's feet - some sort of elf barbarian? Heh, only thing adventurers are good for - killing monsters.

So she focused on the closer one that was still charging in. She had fought giants a lifetime ago. But she still remembered how to focus on their weak points, and use their massive size to her advantage in being able to more finely aim her attacks. She also remembered the danger in overthinking, and quickly let two arrows fly - one immediately after the other.
