For some reason Miroku from Inuyasha comes to mind, not necessarily the lech part but more the generally decent but sort of slimy part.
Whaaaaaaaat?! And here I am totally leaning on Sango as a main means of inspiration for Kasani! Great minds! =)
Also, I've settled on Kasani being a neutral good Samurai/Sorcerer. While she'll really be more lawful most of the time, she values lives over order and is willing to subvert what's culturally appropriate often enough that I figured neutral's the more appropriate choice.

Loup Blanc |

I'm potentially interested, but I have a question about whether or not you're open to 3rd party material for this (probably an archetype). Little Red Goblin Games has put out a few really great books for eastern-flavored games, including a few archetypes that allow for very interesting and iconic Samurai. If you don't have them I'd suggest checking them out, and I can post in descriptions of what they'd change. The main one I'm thinking of at the moment is the Street Samurai, which exchanges their mount and resolve features for Grit and a series of Deeds (think a down-and-dirtier swashbuckler, but still capable of honor); I'm also considering the Student of the Sword, who loses mount for an ability similar to the magus's arcane pool boosting their weapon, and gains bonus feats related to a sword style rather than an Order.
Regardless, I think I may submit a relatively straight samurai type, since I don't actually see one in the submissions yet.

Dunja Hanna |

I better throw my hat in here while I still have a chance.
I'm submitting a Sword Saint Samurai/Speaker for the Past Shaman (this alias). Unfortunately, because I am at work I can't do any major overhauls to bring her in-line with this game until later this evening. However, the profile itself contains most of the core concepts and should still give a pretty good impression of the character.
Basically she's a gypsy performer who inadvertently becomes haunted by the restless spirit of a samurai warrior. Shenanigans ensue, etc.
I understand there is already a samurai/sorcerer in the main group but I hope to differentiate myself enough to become complimentary rather than redundant. Two sides of the sane coin, if you will. I'm planning for a dex-build along with divine casting, I think the juxtaposition is cool. You have a bloodline, I have a grumoy ghost. You have bloodline powers, I have hexes. So on so forth.
As always feedback is both appreciated and welcomme.

All righty, so I've finished the basics of my character. I haven't bought equipment yet, but here's the basic skeleton of my Draconic sorcerer. Imperial dragons aren't an option for choosing a bloodline, so I just picked one that had the same type of elemental alignment/breath weapon, since that seems to be the only thing directly affected by the particular breed of dragon.
I wanted this character to have that classic "wandering hero" wuxia feel, although she's much more a spellcaster than a fighter. I do hope the idea of "one's personal ideal of law/order" is acceptable, otherwise I might have to shift her alignment to Neutral Good.

For generations, things continued in this fashion. One day, a wise man arrived in Rekka and, upon witnessing the offering of a lovely village maiden to the dragon, scolded the villagers for their eagerness to buy protection from this "monstrous extortionist" with the price of their own sacred flesh, and he became determined to free them from this "cruel blackmail." The wise man, blessed with great charisma, convinced several villagers to aid him in deceiving the dragon. He "rescued" the captive maiden and used his magic to banish the dragon deep under the earth; he then "sealed" the cavern by causing an enormous cave-in. He delivered the maiden back to the village, where he soon took command and instituted himself as magistrate. The girl he had rescued was quickly married off, but unknown to anyone in the village, was in fact carrying the dragon's seed within her. Di Yu's voice spoke to her in her dreams, furious at his betrayal. Soon, volcanic rumblings and poisonous gases from deep within the earth beset the village, driving away the populace and leaving Rekka a ghost town.
Only a scant few today know that there is truth to this legend of Di Yu. The underworld dragon's blood has been passed down through the rescued maiden's family line, as have the dreams of a strange, handsome man with cinders billowing from his mouth whispering messages of vengeance. Lingfeng Shangguan is one of those few, as she carries the blood of Di Yu within her veins. It is to this unique ancestry that she owes her curious power over heat and flame, as well as her powerful force of will.
Some would call Lingfeng a troublemaker; she prefers to think of herself as a noble xia, a wandering force for good. Raised in a happy family by understanding and nurturing parents who own a small roadside inn, Lingfeng was never satisfied with the life of a simple villager. She was constantly butting her head into village troubles, punishing local bullies and ne'er-do-wells by singing their robes with the strange flames she commanded. This unsolicited "help" often brought her family more trouble than it was worth, but in Lingfeng's mind, she had upheld the ideals of law and order. Eventually, after a particularly nasty incident that left one of their inn's seedier patrons badly burned after groping a waitress, Lingfeng decided to spare her family any further dishonor and take her show on the road. Now she wanders Ren'Shan, going wherever her feet carry her, looking for problems to solve and people in need of aid, hoping to someday stumble across some particularly noble cause to dedicate herself to. Although not of the strongest mind in the land, she has picked up a few languages along the way, hoping to master the tongue of dragons so that she might better understand the intentions of her progenitor.
Personality: Lingfeng is headstrong to a fault, often reckless, inserting herself into situations that most folk might say she has no business with; her desire to mete out justice and enforce her particular interpretation of "the law" is so great that it frequently overrides her common sense. Although she certainly can be pig-headed and as stubborn as an ox, her intentions are noble, and she is both friendly and surprisingly forgiving, should someone who has wronged her seek to atone in some way. For one so mindful of law and order, she has a surprisingly poor grip on manners and is bad at dealing with authority figures, who she treats exactly the same as anyone else. This can cause her to be quite uncouth, whatever her intentions might be.
Appearance: Lingfeng is of slightly above-average height, with a slight tan and black hair that hangs to chin-length. She has pleasant features, her most notable feature being her dramatic, sharp eyebrows that somewhat resemble the curved edge of a sword. Thanks to her draconic heritage, her eyes have an orange tinge to them that increases to a near-glow when she uses her powers. She usually dresses in fine, flowing red robes to reflect her birthplace in Riku'Hi, and when traveling often wears a favorite wide-brimmed straw hat to keep the sun out of her eyes (and, as she claims, to "aide in maintaining her excitingly mysterious persona").

I actually came up with a similarly wuxia/jidai geki-themed character for a Rise of the Runelords game a while back that seems to have died out. It'd be great to get another shot at it; I love this type of setting.
Thoughts? Feedback? I'll post an updated version with equipment once I figure out what to spend it on.

@Budd:
I like the second portion of your backstory as well as the appearance portion. However, I think the first half is a little rocky. It's hard to tell if you were aiming for a simple explanation of your characters bloodline or an actual recantation of the legend of Di Yu.
If you wanted just a quick explanation then I'd recommend condenscing down the first two paragraphs as there are a lot of flavorful sentences that don't actually provide new information. These could be cut down so that the reader gets just the important bits without anything else.
If you wanted to work it as a legend I'd still recommend shortening it somewhat (so that you can embellish it IC for the RP value). Focus on giving it that "folk tale" feel while also maintaining a clear seperation between the myth of the first portion and the reality of the second portion. Currently the two flow into each other in such a way that they don't mesh well.

I'm working so can't do a big detailed post but...
@Loup Blanc - I'm open to 3rd party stuff, as long as I either already have it, or it's available via SRD. If I have to buy it, or you have to post it, I'm probably not going to go with it (this is mainly because you posting it to me is a violation of the copyright, whereas an SRD entry means it's been vetted against the OGL). Sorry if that's a deal breaker. :(
@Crunch & Backgrounds - Will leave the other PCs to comment for now, I'll try to catch up this evening.
@Katsu - See immediate prior line, but did get a good idea of the personality (flighty, not too bright, friendly).

Appearance
Shou looks like a normal human, with two exceptions. The first is the pallid, gray cast to his skin. No matter how much sun he gets, his skin stays the same gray colour. Secondly his eyes are an odd, pale green. They seem to almost have a gray film over them. He has long, black hair done up in a nobleman's topknot and wears well worn armour. His only weapon, a nine ring broadsword is an odd silvery-gray colour, however the rings contain the colours of the rainbow.
Personality
Shou is a quiet individual who usually stays away from mortals. He follows the rules to the letter, and frowns on the frivolous. A difficult person to get to know, he still boasts a few stalwart friends. He sometimes seems driven by some force outside him, but usually looks to upkeep law and order wherever he goes.
Background
The union of his Jiang-shi mother and a charmed human male, Shou Hei’an was more of a creation than a child. His mother wanted a loyal bodyguard whom she could control completely. Being one of the lesser nobles of the White Court, a ‘lady in waiting’ to the White Queen, she was always embroiled in court intrigue and wanted a powerful bodyguard to protect her. Shou was the perfect choice.
At a young age, the Dhampir was taught both magic and martial skills. He excelled in the use of the 9 ring broad sword and was soon able to blend his magic and combat expertise together into a deadly force. On the outside, he was being molded to become the perfect bodyguard to his “mother”, however on the inside it was quite a different story.
Young Shou fell into the training as an escape from his mother and her flunkies. He excelled simply because failure would mean his death. He had no loyalty to the creature that made him call it “mother”, and planned his escape almost as soon as he could wield a sword. Training was the ends to a goal, and that goal was escape.
On his 18th birthday, Shou’s “mother” decided the boy should entertain her ‘friends’ with a display of his martial and magical skill. An opponent was selected, and the battle was a hard fought victory for the boy. It was not until later that night that one of the visitor’s let slip that the man he had kill was none other than his own father. Rage and anger overtook the boy and he determined then and there to not spend another moment within the walls of that horrid house. His training had included classes in history, geography and the nobility. He knew that he could not simply leave and find a place in the lands of the White Court. He had to flee the lands completely, and so decided to petition the Gray Lady to take him in. As a minor noble he would have some leverage, but he also hoped to see his skills to his new monarch.
So early in the morning he slipped out of the estate owned by his family and made the journey to the lands of the Gray Lady. His mother did not take his leaving well, and sent troops and assassins to either bring him back, or kill him and return his body to her for punishment. Using her contacts in the Black King’s lands, she was able to keep up the pressure until, a wounded and exhausted Shou finally crossed the border into the lands of the Gray Lady. He called for sanctuary and an audience with the monarch, but so too did his mother and her allies. Too much had been spent on his training, and too many favours called in to just let him go. With a letter from the White Queen and an emissary from the Black King, the Jiang-shi noblewoman approached the Gray Lady’s magistrate and demanded the return of her “property”. The boy was allowed to defend himself and gave a vivid account of the horrors and humiliation he had suffered at the hands of his “mother”. He argued that he had reached an age where he could make his own decisions, and his mother had not taken the precautions to keep him as a thrall, then it was her loss. He had escaped her fairly, and only now was she resorting to “political maneuvering” to try and get him back. He swore a pledge to the Gray Lady to serve her until she released him from his vow, even unto death and beyond.
The magistrate listened to all this with no emotion, and upon both parties completing their cases, he adjourned to speak with the Lady herself. Long did the two groups wait for a verdict, but finally the great doors of the courtroom were swung open and the magistrate returned with the Lady’s judgement. The whole thing came down to the ownership of property, and the value of said property. As that property was now in the hands of the Gray Lady, it would be up to her to set the value. A sum of money and a number of magical trinkets were offered, as well as the promise of a “small” boon to both the White and Black courts in exchange for this slave.
Shou’s mother was enraged at the offer and rejected it out of hand, however the emissaries of the Black King and White Queen, knowing that even a ‘small’ favour from the Gray Lady was worth more than the life of a simple slave, forced her into accepting the deal. She vowed revenge on the dhampir, and noted that he could not hide in the Gray realms forever.
Once all the others had departed, the magistrate approached Shou and presented him with a contract which would bind him, body and soul, to the Gray Lady and her court. A drop of blood and his chop was all it took to make him part of the Gray Court. He was offered no title or position, and for several months, was all but ignored by all within the court, until a week ago he was called to the office of one of the Gray Ladies ministers. When he arrived he was shown into a side chamber where a beautiful nine-ring broad sword rested on a table. The gray blade and coloured rings seemed to clash, but also somehow complement each other. The silvery hilt felt as if it had been made especially for him. The weapon was truly a treasure beyond price, but once he touched it, a voice boomed within his head.
“You serve the Gray Lady in life and death. You will follow my commands as I am her emissary to you. Great may be the name you make for yourself in the outside world, but always you work for your mistress. No other vows may you take! In all things you are her creature. You may call me Huīsè de shìyán, The Gray Oath…or just Shiyan. Obey me as you would our Lady and we will become comrades…defy me and you will know pain.”
And so, Shou left the protection of the Gray Lady’s lands and travelled to the mortal kingdoms to complete the many task required by his monarch.

@Katsu:
In my opinion writing backstories from a first person view is incredibly difficult to pull off and, unfortunately, this one was unsuccessful.
Firstly, very little relevant information is given to the reader despite your stories immense length. The only thing I took away was that you character had unnamed parents, was born in an unnamed border village, you had an unnamed master, and you had a run-in with the same bandits on two seperate occasions. Beyond that I'd be hard-pressed to give a summary of your character.
Another major criticism that I'd give is that your writing doesn't establish a well developed character. Rather, he comes off as one-dimensional, as if he were a generic anime protagonist, instead of having an actual, well-rounded personality.
I'd recommend trying to make your backstory more of a biography or wikipedia entry rather than the opening chapter of a novel. So focus on getting information across rather than embellishing superfluous details. Also try working on giving your character a more well-rounded personality.
And preemptive apologies if I come across as overly-critical.

![]() |

no no, I have a love for writing and prefer more embellished backgrounds rather than Wikipedia entries, (I've written much of my own short little fictions) I'll be adding bits to it over the next day or so, and I'll include a paragraph at the end Titled TL:DR (basic background overview) to explain it in a straight forward biography style.
also, I noticed that I wrote a bit that didn't get saved :( thanks for the input.
or in otherwords, I enjoy stories, but often times stories take a good bit of writing to be good representation and often I don't realize when I fail to get it across as I have the vision of the character in my head already. So need input on it.

Gavmania |

Well, What I've got so far is here. It's a bit of a mess and minor purchases need to be completed, but it's mostly there.
Zamu of the Tomoshabe clan (Tomoshabe Zamu in Tengu; Tengu always put their clan name first).
The Tomoshabe were formed when the first ancestor, Tomoshabe, took up the bow of a fallen comrade at the battle of the Four Willows and used it to bring down the enemy General. From that day, the Tomoshabe Clan has sought exotic weapons to be able to mount different kinds of warfare; but a special place of honour has always been held for the Bow.
Zamu, scion of a long line of warrior Tengu, has been steeped in bowmanship since he was old enough to string a bow. He has proved particularly adept and has learned everything that the Clan could teach him; but there came a day when the Clan had taught all that it could.
After consulting with the ancestors, the elders agreed that the only course was for young Zamu to leave the clan, to learn and to seek out the hidden masters who can teach him more of the way of the bow. Then he can return to his clan and teach what he has learned to the next generation.
On the day of his leaving, clan members all came forward with little gifts to aid his journey; Saki, dried fruits and nuts, a few coins, some magic potions, spare weapons, and his favourite bow. All were placed in his hands with the ancestors blessing.
Conscious that he represented his clan to the outside world, Zamu strode forward to seek the hidden masters.

@JAF0 - Standard trait rules (2 + 1 with drawback). You can refluff traits if you like to better fit your backgroudn, but you have to state what the original is with it, and the type.
Also, I didn't address it before, but you can refluff campaign traits from APs, although I'll give those a closer going over. Jade Regent traits are especially appropriate.

I did use his numbers...array #3 I believe....
Stat: 4d6 - 4 ⇒ (5, 4, 4, 5) - 4 = 14
Stat: 4d6 - 3 ⇒ (5, 4, 6, 3) - 3 = 15
Stat: 4d6 - 3 ⇒ (3, 4, 4, 6) - 3 = 14
Stat: 4d6 - 2 ⇒ (3, 2, 5, 5) - 2 = 13
Stat: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (4, 1, 2, 5) - 1 = 11
Stat: 4d6 - 2 ⇒ (5, 2, 4, 6) - 2 = 15
Str (15 +2 racial) = 17
Dex (14 -2 racial) = 12
Con (14) = 14
Int (15 +2 racial) = 17
Wis (11) = 11
Cha (13) = 13
I think that is correct...we are allowed to move the numbers to fit our characters I believe.
LOL...no problem...I welcome people checking...you never know when you could miss something!! Thanks!!

Hm, with that update to how 3PP stuff would work, the specific stuff I was looking at is out (unless you decide to buy the PDFs, haha). I'd still like to build a pretty straightforward combat character, and to that end I'm currently thinking I'll use the Shogun archetype from Rite Publishing. Currently have an idea for a mikobito samurai in my head actually, so I'll post in with anything I come up with.

NOTE - Dhampir characters! I do not use the Pathfinder FAQ response on Dhampir ability 'Negative Energy Affinity'. Dhampir's are alive, and if a channel is set to target 'living people' then they are valid targets. If that channel is positive, they take damage, if it's negative, they heal. If the channel is set to target 'dead/undead' then the channel doesn't affect them. Sorry I didn't state this earlier, I had forgotten about the Paizo ruling until I was looking at character sheets.
@Mikobito vs Mokobito - document is correct, not posts that disagree with it. :) So it's Mikobito.
@Loup Blanc - No issues with the Shogun

Crunch is all available under the "Character" spoiler. However, I need to update my skills to reflect your format requirements. Are there other format requirements that I'm missing?
There was also a tiny personality description that I will lengthen.

@Karlprosek - I was actually meaning Dragon Empires Primer, but got Jade Regent instead. :) However, if you take one with a specific NPC named, just leave a placeholder for the NPC name (Like NPCNAMEHERE) and if selected, I'll let you know who/what to place in that placekeeper, as well as help with refluffing.
@All - I had actually meant the Dragon Empires Primer traits (like Rice Runner, etc) are especially appropriate to the setting. Regional traits could be used especially (just make sure they make sense, no forest traits if you came from the desert!). :)
@Dunja Hanna - Sorry, last post from you was that you needed to redo the crunch in the alias, so since I hadn't seen a follow up (I could have missed it), I assumed the crunch was the old crunch. I see you have Slashing Grace. I'm assuming you're taking it for the dex to damage. I assume the sword is Living Steel (that should be in parenthesis next to it in the equipment section for clarity). Everything else looks good other than the skills (reformatting).
@Shou Hei'An - I count 13 skill points spent. 2 (Class) + 3 (Int Bonus) = 5, 5*3 levels = 15 skill points.
@ALL - Please make sure Favored class is indicated on your character, especially if you are multiclassed, and specify where each bonus went (skill point, hit point, or special ability)

Dunja Hanna |

@Dunja Hanna - Sorry, last post from you was that you needed to redo the crunch in the alias, so since I hadn't seen a follow up (I could have missed it), I assumed the crunch was the old crunch. I see you have Slashing Grace. I'm assuming you're taking it for the dex to damage. I assume the sword is Living Steel (that should be in parenthesis next to it in the equipment section for clarity). Everything else looks good other than the skills (reformatting).
My mistake then.
Your assumptions are correct on both accounts. I'll make the other minor format changes today when I get the chance.

All righty, I'll work on reformatting those skills, spending my moolah, and picking traits as soon as I can. Also, I will take Dunja's advice into consideration for cleaning up the first half of the background. If I find any traits that fill in some of the holes in my character build, I might swap out the Cosmopolitan feat for something else... We'll see.
EDIT: Nevermind, seems the Dragon Empires Primer traits are on the OGC site. Joy of joys!

I'm thinking classic samurai, bow and mount, not the sword stereotype. I'll be submitting her shortly.
