I'm always confused by people who come up with statements like Chengar's non-ironically. From everything I could tell, Gygax's games were combat-heavy tournament-style games where individual characters had the life expectancy of gnats in a furnace, players would keep several backups on hand, and a character was considered to have extremely deep backgrounds if they amounted to more than a stat block with a name more creative than a simple anagram.
