I think Tybek is hilarious too and enjoy his dialogue. As Tybek was an extreme version of Brayden's socially unaware persona, I have had Brayden learn and be more aware. As a fundamentally good person with a strong sense of community, though, Brayden was extremely disappointed when Tybek got caught spying. He is highly duty-bound and probably the closest in that area to Glorfin (although Maegge may be there too). He quickly deferred to Glorfin to handle the disposition of the prisoners completely as that is his area of expertise.
Brayden took a strong stance to muzzle Tybek early with 'fines' for outrageous behavior--a punishment a greedy dwarf would respect, but was quickly overruled by everyone. He believed the group at that point committed to tolerate Tybek's behavior and feels his only way to try to influence Tybek is to remind him of his past acts and their consequences.
Now I work with someone who is probably one of the top ten in his field in the entire world, but has almost the exact same personality as Tybek. He opens his side of a discussion after others have talked with 'You do not know what you are talking about', 'Can I talk now?', 'I do not have time to explain chemistry 101 to you', and my all time favorite thrown in before someone talks- 'Please get right to the point because your dialogue often rambles with little meaningful content and my time is valuable--you have ten words.'
My point now is Tybek can aspire to be useful, but acceptance and especially respect will be difficult. If Tybek follows my real world example, excellent professional accomplishments will be overshadowed by rubbing everyone the wrong way.

Tybek Odeon |

I agree, Braden. Respect may be difficult to earn, even if he is extremely good at what he does. I am glad you and Ranim find him enjoyable, because I am having a wonderful time playing him. Perhaps it is the fact that in my own life, I must exercise diplomacy in all of my relationships and interactions. I mean, no matter how much I want to, I would never say or do something like that. In fact I sometimes cringe upon reading what I wrote just before I push submit. However, just because Tybek has the charm of a rabid porcupine, I don't want to then force everyone else to constantly have to repair the working relationship with whoever Tybek encounters. Hopefully the people of the town will recognize that Glorfin and Ranim are the real spokespeople for the party and that Tybek just has some anger/social issues to work out. I mean, a character like Tybek could never represent the party and that is where characters like Glorfin and Ranim become essential. So please advise how I can keep playing Tybek as his usual lovable self while Glorfin and the rest of the party accomplish what they need to and we continue to all have a fun time.

Braden Montajay |

Well, speaking in dwarven or having your face turn red and hurrumphing or gasping in exasperation is another way to go. And I truly have no problem with Tybek as is--the character is so close in attitude to one I know it I amazing. The closeness of fighting with Tybek in future encounters will do much to help with party respect and unity.
Ranim will have to be the party spokesman as she has shown the flexibility and compromise none of the others (except Maegge with no diplomacy skills) have shown.

Glorfin Umbar-Caeli |
I've pondered and ummed and ahhed and half written a few different attempts at posts... but in the end it comes back to one fact:
Five people are enjoying the PbP, and I'm not.
By no means am I selfish enough to think that others need to change to suit me - so instead I'm going to step out of the campaign. I know that there has been support for Glorfin's 'serious' role - but it's kind of asking the same person to be the designated driver week in and week out.
In the end, Glorfin isn't a personality that fits in with the others in the group - so I'm going to take the stick out of the mud and step back to let you guys keep up the fun.
Big thanks to DM Chaos for the original selection and to all for the enjoyment that I have taken out of the PbP thus far - I think I'm in other campaigns with at least half of you anyways, so it's less of a goodbye and more of a see you elsewhere.

Braden Montajay |

Mark, I can totally see your point, but I had hoped we could find a way to make it work.
Best wishes, especially with your new Winter DM undertaking. I can almost hear the beginning of Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song playing when I read the intro to the new AP.

Glorfin Umbar-Caeli |
Aye - RoW should be fun... and though I like the Immigrant Song... I had this particular number running through my own whilst writing it ;)

Ranim Nejem |

Sorry to see you go, Mark. Glorfin will be missed, and not just as tank and straight man. You are an excellent RPer and I enjoy your characters and storytelling ability. I wish it could be different here, but if you're not enjoying things, then you're not enjoying things. I hope your other games are better suited. And I don't envy the selection process on those RoW games. I glanced through your recruitment thread, and that looked to be quite a list to sift through.

Tybek Odeon |

I am posting from an airport in DC. Will be short.
Mark, I am sorry to hear that you are leaving, especially when it is my Dwarf who is the cause. I do really love having you in my games, not the least because you are one of the best role players I ever played with. Well at least I will still see you around the boards in other games.

Braden Montajay |

Clansman
I also like this Blaze Bayley song at the risk of dating myself.

Maegge Weissam |

Good luck in your other endeavors, Mark. I'm sorry you weren't able to enjoy this game, but like you said - we're all around in other games as well, so maybe I'll see you around in a different one at some point.

Maegge Weissam |

DM Chaos |

Mark - You will definitely be missed. I am sorry the characters did not mesh the way I had hoped. If you should wish to rejoin, do not hesitate to let me know so that if a spot opens up, I can shoot you an offer.
For the rest of you, I have spoken with the last man out in the original applications and he is creating a character. He did not want to stick with what he had submitted earlier, so he is working on a replacement. I think I know how to introduce him, so you should not be short for long. I think that I should have time tomorrow to get a good post together to get everything cleared up.

Tybek Odeon |

Ty, do you want to work up the latest treasure as well while we are in town? Remember to work in my chainmail to offset much of the breastplate.
I can update treasure when I get home this weekend, but I won't even try with this little iPod that I'm writing from.
I do love Genesis, but I am probably better known as a Rush, ELP, and Yes fan.

Ranim Nejem |

Sorry guys, posting quickly now. I've been in the process of moving and thought I'd keep up with it (since it's only a few personal items at present, though that includes my desktop and the RPG books I use). Of course life threw a few wrenches into that and I got the joy of putting $500 into my vehicle in addition, and of course requiring time spent dealing with that.
But hey, my van works great now at least!

Ranim Nejem |

I like to travel but god do I hate moving. This one would normally be great (company pays for a moving company to do the whole thing), but the apartment I want won't be available until mid June. So for now I've got a corporate apartment until then, and thus still had to move the few items I wanted to take with me. And while I can travel (kinda) light, moving is a different story. Especially because I wanted my desktop with me this time (we've been apart so much!).

Arindale |

We just did at least 56 points to the Ogre and he is stunned and prone...if he had character levels he probably would have dropped Ty to begin with, he should be ground beef. But that is why I took the chance to draw the AOO to set up the color spray, that spell is a battle end-er if it works.
Arin's not bright, but he is wise and knows the smart guys can think of something while he takes the poundin'

Tybek Odeon |

Please reread some of mine folks, because I am editing mine to make them fit with the dialogue and the ninja posting that is happening. I am trying to follow all of the threads of conversations and events. This is awesome!

Berashel |

Hey guys, good to finally get to post! Been following since the beginning and have paid even closer attention lately waiting for my time to enter!

Arindale |

Other than searching it's body for treasure, nothing much to say :] unless someone else wants to get it buried or something, I don't think there is much left of it.
It was a good delve for team good. Hopefully we are closing up on level 3! wink, wink...

Tybek Odeon |

Ty, were you going to put together the treasure list? It would seem that we have a pretty good group to carry most of the goods, including the mule who can carry quite a bit. Anything we can't carry we should dispose of so no one else can use it. The moat seems a likely place.
I will work on a list, but I may not be able to get to it until this afternoon.

DM Chaos |

As far as leveling goes, you all are about 1000 short. Leveling is a tricky balance since many encounters are out of whack between AD&D and PF, so I have to watch this carefully. I think that if it were regular medium advancement, you all might be way too powerful by the end of the campaign. Right now you all are pretty much where I think you should be.

DM Chaos |

Kind of hard to tell. If we are all having fun, there are two additional "modules" the Slave Lords (A1-4) and Giants/Drow (GDQ(1-7) - Against the Giants, Descent to the Depths of the Earth(Drow), and Queen of the Demonweb Pits). All total, these would take us to level 20, possibly more depending on how energetic and creative I am. I own A1-4 (both as the original single modules, and as a combined set put out in the mid-1980s). I have G1-3 in its original form. D1-3 and Q1 I do not own, but I am pretty sure that I can get them from Tybek if I get that far. Mind you, this would be several years of playing at the very least.
My best guess for the ToEE is to have it go through somewhere between levels 8-10. If I want to run the Slave Lord series, I would have to limit it to that. If the levels seem to high, we could skip straight to the GDQ series.
Remember, these are all modules written for AD&D in Greyhawk, so there is a lot of tweaking necessary, but so far I am having fun, even if I go slow at times as I attempt to figure out how to change encounters/monsters/loot to balance with the CR and WBL of PF. Also, except for the upper level of the moathouse which I found on the net, I have to create all maps by hand (using Maptools) as there were no PDF's or fancy color maps in the old days. In fact, on many of the maps for the ToEE, you can see where the original drafter simply drew in the doors and secret passages by hand on the original maps in the module. No cutting and pasting perfect duplicates of each dungeon element back then.

Maegge Weissam |

After I bought a used single-copy of A1 last fall, I did some research online that suggested Slave Lords was alright - but the Giants series rated as among the best adventures of all time. I actually nabbed a PF "translation" of Frost Giants (and A1, I think) from the Conversions board, before the author went MIA and all his links stopped working. I heard good things about both the Drow and Queen adventures.
I'm pretty sure Braden has a bunch of those AD&D adventures as well (just guessing, since he's doing Cult of the Reptile God right now).

Tybek Odeon |

I read throught he posts and this is what I am finding for treasure. Please let me know if you think I missed something.
Possibly Useful Equipment
Ring (worth 30 sails)
Hanging on a rack on one side are 20 small shields and next to that is another rack with 10 heavy shields. On a set of shelving on the other side are 12 suits of leather armor. In the back are 4 barrels labeled salted meat and two smaller 5-gallon kegs labeled brandy.
Carefully placed in racks are 50 spears, 10 glaives, 6 guisarmes, 3 battle axes, 70 black capes, each with a yellow eye of fire sewn on the center, 2 barrels with pickled fish and 1 of dried fruit, a barrel with 120 arrows and another barrel containing 200 crossbow bolts.
Huge Polearm
Empty Chest
Cloak (Magical)
Holy Symbol of Aroden
Likely Useless Equipment
There is a pile of junk piled against the west wall. It appears to be wood and other refuse that someone carried from the upper level, or perhaps was part of some room on the lower level which someone cleaned.
If anyone lives here, they are clearly not too keen on cleaning as there is also refuse strewn about the room with pieces of plaster and stone lying on the floor along with old and rotten pieces of wood.
There is a pile of broken furniture, pieces of old plaster, stones, chewed bones, shredded tapestries, and all sorts of other things one might expect to find strewn about an abandoned moathouse in the pile.
All types of torture paraphernalia. An iron maiden, a rack, lots of wicked barbed whips, and numerous other rusted, rotting and broken devices for which you can only imagine one use.
Remains of a cot
Broken Furniture and other Refuse
Partially Chewed Bones
Dead Rat

DM Chaos |

They are all fun and interesting. I played bits and pieces of all of them, some as a player and some as a DM with Tybek back in the 80's, I will have to get the GDQ set if we get that far. But I can either pick up a copy on Ebay or borrow one.
Either way, we have a LONG way to go in the ToEE before I even start to think about what the next steps will be.
