Yikes. Travail's lucky to be alive. Good thing Khellik was healing him.

@Valen: What's that thing next to Travail outlined in yellow on the battle map?

Yes, enemies with deathknell and animate dead can make for a lot of trouble quickly for PCs.

Along those lines, due to the deadly potential of the circumstances, I have opted to wait for Coreguy to post rather than continue to bot his PC.

Travail wrote:

I believe you are referring to the earth elemental that Kyra summoned, which is immediately adjacent (right) to Travail. The other yellow token, on its side, notes the inanimate Tik Taan.

Unless I'm reading the initiative order wrong, I think you botted his turn this round already in your last post. Not that we couldn't use another, LOL.

Hmmmm, looks like I did screw up the Initiative order with the readied action. I had intended to have Coreguy avoid an attack by the zombie ape, but not at the cost of his order in Initiative. Such a drastic action while botting, I think--at least under these circumstances, would be overstepping on the part of a GM.

I am going to retroactively change Coreguy's botted move.

[b]RETROACTIVELY applied actions by Coreguy last round

Coreguy chopped up the Tik Taan attacking him (green).
Standard action=same as originally posted as is result/

Coreguy then carefully approaches the base of the ziggurat.
Move action. Coreguy did NOT take any readied action last round and did NOT move as far as I had botted above (as the intent was to keep him out of the reach of the dead ape)

Accordingly, Coreguy's order in Initiative has not changed and he is now up.

The paladin's attack on the prone, zombified ape comes fast and furious. Infused with a portion of the power of the god of justice, his attack rips through the undead creature, bringing its unnatural existence to an end.

With the second fall of the great ape Da'Tunga, the seemingly lifeless Tik Taan (yellow) once again animates and it makes a mad rush toward the unconscious form of Travail with the most evil of intents! (Move action of 10 ft. into Travail's square {yellow arrow on Map})

Dragoomi and the summoned earth elemental may each take an attack of opportunity.

The bludgeoning fists of the earth elemental are quite effective against the last of the Tik Taan.

But the cat is unable to grab ahold of the living idol.

The healing power of his allies causes Travail to regain consciousness.

The Tik Taan moves toward the animal. 5 ft. step, however, I think that Droogami still gets an AoO for entering his square.

Assuming it survives...:

The living idol attempts to bite the cat. Melee (bite): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10 Successful attack inflicts 1 HP of damage and creature bitten must make a DC 16 Will save or fly into an uncontrollable, violent rage. This is a mindaffecting effect.

With strike after strike, the Pathfinders smash the final of the living idols to pieces. With the last of the Tik Taan are destroyed, the primates are freed of Angazhan’s mad embrace and begin trying to flee the museum in sudden confusion.

COMBAT OVER (Well done!)

The mists infesting the museum quickly vanish as well.

"Thank you!" comes a cry from atop the ziggurat. You quickly see that the source is the bound half-elf, Nigel. "The fact that I have regained my senses must mean that you have destroyed the Tik Taan. For that, I am eternally grateful, but... if I may... could I possibly impose upon you a bit further?" he asks. Though he can barely do so, he punctuates his question by raising a tied hand to expose the straps that hold him fast.

Devil We Know | Burden of Envy | B12 Somewhere Below (GM School)

Nigel looks at the newcomers with relief and some surprise. "You? You know of me?" he asks. "Then you have me at a disadvantage. A few of them, it would seem." he says as he waits for the last of the bonds to be cut away.

"As for how I got into such predicaments," the curator expounds, "I was taking stock of the pieces in storage, when this silvery-mist began to appear, rapidly filling the museum. As it came, I saw that the museum beset upon by primates, which as best I can tell were summoned here from throughout the city. Well, of course, my thoughts turned towards the idols that were recently acquired from the Pathfinder, Lugizar Trantos, as I knew that they had been recovered from the Mwangi Expanse and I had suspected that they may have had some connection to Angazhan, Demon Lord of Apes. It is reputed that his black-furred hand holds sway over the Gorilla King and his city of Usaro and that all the jungle trembles at his blood-curdling roar. It was not long before I, myself, was overcome by the mist. In my state of mad fury, I was led here, to this room, by the court of apes where they adorned me with these painted prints and sigils where, I regret to say, I found myself wishing to become a sacrifice to the Demon Lord."

At the mention of the Venture Captain, Nigel seems deeply touched. "Perhaps, it is time to do some mending of broken friendships." he ponders.

Then, realizing that the Pathfinders are planning to depart, Nigel pleads, "Please, hold on for a moment." He leaves for a moment and returns with a bejeweled spear with brittle, white bird feathers tied with crumbling leather straps beneath the still-sharp spearhead. "I want you all to have this--please, take it as a token of my appreciation and gratitude for your having saved my life."

Identifying it now or later:
You realized that it is a +1 vicious spear.

"It is an item from my personal collection." he explains. "This incredibly ancient Mwangi spear was found by Chelish explorers near the colony of Sargava during the reign of the expansionist Chelish prince, Haliad I. It would be worth a great deal to the Pathfinder Society and I suspect that they'd hungrily pay to include it in their collection. It is a gift so, of course, you may do with it as you wish."

"I also have for you, this." Nigel says, producing a crystaline stone. "I believe this items to to be of special significance to
Pathfinders; it is an ioun stone. As you no doubt know, many ioun stones can be placed within a wayfinder to create fantastic magical effects, but my inferior stone is, sadly, not capable of such resonance."

Identifying the stone now or later:
It is a flawed incandescent blue sphere ioun stone.

"Finally, I want you all to know this. I have been convinced by your skill, knowledge, and respect for the integrity of this institution's collection, to now make all of the Blakros Museum’s vast collection available to the Society for study." Nigel announces, before adding, "I am even considering re-petitioning for membership within the Society."

"Today, you have done a great thing, for myself and for this time-honored institution!"

Scenario over. Feel free to role-play a bit more if you'd like.

"Yes... yes.. quite tragic." Nigel absentmindedly concedes, as he begins to remove the paint and mentally starts to take an accounting of the exhibits within view.

Then, realizing that the Pathfinders are taking their leave, he cries out, "Farewell, Pathfinders! And thank you for your assistance. Perhaps, I will see you again in the future, though I highly doubt that I will ever have need to call upon your services again!"

"After all," he ponders, "What else could possibly go wrong at the Blakros Museum?"

"I'm sure the society will find a way to bring you back into the fold, I'm sure the next time so many pathfinders are in the museum will be for a fancy event and not some danger threatening the whole island of Absalom, and definitely nothing to do with shadows." Coreguy says knowingly before nodding once more to his friends before heading to the Abadarian Cathedral.
