Raella tries to time her swing based on Mort's blows causing the Ebon Aspect to spasm in pain.

Pillette strikes for naught. Solrisa manages another solid swing, digging into its right. Mortimer connects twice at the knee. Tynan bleeds the Aspect from the back. Raella fails to cut into the creature from the other side, as liquid from the pool manages to splash the warrior in the eyes. Ascaria squeals and heals.

Pillette continues her assault from above, unhappy the thing still lives. She's especially concerned as the creature turns to study the thing at its back, and manages to look up to see her as well.

With the first knee strike, Mortimer brings the massive creature down. The chamber, with all its roars and thrashings, grows quiet.

What did I just say?!! Doesn't matter... Nothing talks to my friends like that .

Mortimer sits on the stone floor well away from the pool. Every once in awhile he turns around and looks toward the pool, then back at his own body.

I still have all my limbs, right?

Solrisa, with a smile on her face, does one last blow upon the 'thing', striking through it to make sure it is ended.

Coup de Jerk:

Solrisa stands by the pool after that, waiting for more to come out of the depths. She even kicks the head back in, hoping that if there is any more evil within, it would come to the surface.

Seeing the creature fall, Ascaria immediately severs the healing links he has with the wounded. He then goes around, quickly, and heals everyone as fast as he can. He starts with the big man, seemingly shaking in the corner. Then moves to Tynan, and finally gives himself a whack.

He starts with his own spells...

As always, if you need further healing, do so at d8+1 and I'll track the charges. Make sure you note how much of the earlier healing I've already done - including the channeling as appropriate.

Ascaria then turns the wand on himself.

As the healing flows, and things start to slow down, he takes a deep breath, "That was close." he grins. He resets all life links and starts to congratulate everyone. "Well fought! Well done!"

Reeling from the beast's attacks, but healed by Ascaria's link and channeling, Tynan watches the great beast fall to Mort's blow. Tynan steps off the edge of the pool, still wobbling. Tynan asks Ascaria for one last wand usage, which mends the majority of his wounds.

CLW on Tynan: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

"At least the Ebon Aspect was in its weakened state. I don't want to think about it at full strength..."

Once healed, while the party mills about, Ascaria answers a yearning and breaks out the paper. He does a charcoal sketch of the Ebon Aspect fighting the party - the ultimate battle. He shows every nuance he can in his art, from Sol's mighty blows, to Morts repeated ones, to Tynans precise ones. Though they might not have been as directly helpful - he glorifies Rae and Pillette as well.

Not terribly happy with what he's drawn, something's missing, he none the less tucks it away with his other pieces. More relaxed now that he's had a chance to purge some of his thoughts, he looks around the group.

"I am spent. And exhausted. I need two things. I need to sleep in my own bed tonight, and we need to warn Smenk his life may be in danger."

"Sure, it's possible we've snuffed enough of the organization here for now that he's safe, but if we don't warn him, and they kill him, I'll feel badly about it. He's not a nice man, but he doesn't deserve death at the hands of this lot!"

"So I say we head up top, warn Smenk, get some rest, and come back here in the morning to press our way through the stone door. I don't know how we'll get back in - maybe now that they are mostly destroyed we can just walk in, I don't know. But that woman got away and we have a duty to Smenk if we're going to take his money."

The little man seems firm on his stance and is ready to surface.

"No, we can't go up yet. There are bad things through the stone door. If we leave now, then they might escape, especially after they see what we've done to their friends. And their bigger, uglier friend..." Solrisa toetaps the body of the big ugly.

"We should rest, then go through the stone door like we planned."

"I have to agree with Sol. We had to pull off a major deception to get down here the first time, which won't be easily repeated. I don't want to stay down here any longer than we have to either, but we need to make sure this cult is eradicated once and for all."

Mortimer reclines on the floor well away from the pool, flat on his back with his hands clasped behind his head while he listens to the others.

"I've been thinking about that -- about Smenk's life being in danger. That Faceless One's note to kill Smenk was to Thedrick, who was meant to find it after the death of the Faceless One -- only Thedrick never got a chance to see it because we killed him first. The Kendra Lady probably never saw the Faceless One's desire about that either."

He stares at the ceiling, thinking.

"That leaves us Grallak Kur -- what part in all of this was his? That letter of Faceless One's and Thedrick's journal indicate to me that there was high potential for backstabbing and betrayal between the cult leaders. If anyone was likely to carry out the Faceless One's threat to Smenk, I think it would have to be Grallak Kur at this point. I think we should -- without delay -- find him and dispatch with his role and cult while we're here. We should rest only if absolutely needed."

He performs a kick up to stand.

"What do you say Ascaria, can you hold out a little longer down here before returning safely to your bed? I can even bear you if necessary. My backpack is probably not the most hospitable place, but you'll fit into it and I bet it beats the stone floor."

Ascaria grins. "OK, OK. Let's rest here and clear the stone door in the morning. Then we'll leave this place to the dead. I've my bedroll though, thanks for the offer."

"I can't be in the pictures Mort. I'm drawing them." Silly human.

He casts Detect Magic and searches for loot.

Sol nods, pleased to have found agreement with her own thinking. She smiles happily...teamwork makes her happy.

"We sleep then...much like we did last night. Dibs on standing watch with Rae!" Sol calls out happily before anyone else can pair with her sister. "Oooh...let's take middle shift. That's the funnest one!"

"Pillette and I can take first watch, so you can get to sleep now, Ascaria." Tynan nods to Pillette, who seems even more distant than usual, but gives a resigned nod of agreement.

I wonder what's going on with her...

"That leaves me with the remaining shift."

Mortimer resumes his previous reclined position in front of the stone door corridor near the lift. He closes his eyes and imagines having a massage at the Salute.

I do not want to have nightmares tonight.

Ascaria:

Having previously cased this room, the only new entry is the Ebon Aspect itself, which has no aura about it at present.

The rest of the early morning passes quietly enough. The pool remains still, the creature's headless body remains slumped across the pool's edge. Each shift comes and goes, renewing your strength as sleep comes quickly. The mine seems to insulate the huddled sleepers from the cold morning air permeating Diamond Lake above.

When the group is ready, the key is brought out, and the Stone Door is opened. Proceeding with utmost caution, and mostly refreshed from hours of minimal sleep, the party passes through the initial chamber. The bodies of the pale-skinned creatures are where you left them, with a minor alteration- they've been partially consumed, and dragged a bit about the room.

Further down the stone corridor, you manage to take two cat-like creatures off-guard, as they stir from their own sleep, as well as their keeper, all three huddling for warmth.

Knowledge(Arcana) DC 11:

These creatures are Krenshar.

As you proceed, the tunnel opens into a much larger cavern, forcing you to descend down pre-spiked rungs which allow a relatively easy descent for all. A couple of pale-skinned archers beleaguer you, forcing Ascaria to heal several of you, after Rae's bow, Tynan's daggers, and Pillette's bolts finally bring them down.

A gradual rockslide hardly stops your forward march, and several winding corridors later, you become aware of various-pitched barks and cries, signifying a larger contingent of the red-eyed, pale-skinned aggressors. Tynan returns from a quiet scouting to inform the party that several of them sound like they're fighting among themselves. He doesn't think he alerted them to his presence, but it was awfully dark for his eyes.

Solrisa waits for instructions, but her first instincts are to go see if the noises appear to be good noises or bad noises and then take appropriate action, probably with her sword.

However, out of deference to others, she waits...momentarily at least.

"It sounds as it they are fighting amongst themselves... probably due to all of our activities in destabilizing the cult. We can probably take them unawares, since their attentions are focused on one another. This is probably our best bet."

Tynan readies a flask of alchemist fire, should they proceed.

As Sol moves into the cavernous room, Ascaria's light allows her eyes enough distance to take in all of the denizens currently residing here.

Solrisa:

Several of the pale-skins are milling about, clubs in hand. Three are towards the back, where two of the creatures are beating a third to death.

Their eyes seem to take in the change of light from the gnome. They are now aware of your presence. The rear group ends its internal struggle, for the time-being. They all pair up, huddling close to each other, ready for the intrusion.

Raella advances into the darkness, allowing her eyes to settle into its further range.

Mortimer continues to aim just a little off, hoping to account for the creature's bobbing and weaving, but misses twice. Tynan has an equally hard time finding his target.
