Harlan nods and assess the wounds on his friends. If none are critical, he will cling to Skygni and prepare for the next snake.

Heng swims through a four to five foot wide tunnel through the water. It runs over forty feet east before rising and opening on the floor of a great chamber. Overhead are a tangled web of barbed chains, arrayed with mangled bodies and body parts, hanging like so much rotted fruit. To the east is a massive set of double-doors, in front of which are arrayed a number of foes.

The woman-headed serpent coils and turns, facing Heng. "There is one! We must defend this gate with our lives. Kill them all!" The group, including two female hobgoblin monks, two lepers, and the escaped destrachan, ready for combat. Heng hears the chinks of movement in the chains above, and spies two dark figures crawling amid the chain web.

Heng quickly retreats through the tunnel, and the enemies do not follow (yet).

While everyone is gathered, Kiyomi will cast haste on the party.


Whatever attack plan you come up with, with haste in effect, it will take 1-2 rounds to swim through the tunnel. A DC 10 Swim check gets you half your speed in a full-round action. The tunnel is 40 ft long. When you're ready to move, post your rolls.

Also, the tunnel is relatively narrow, so I'll need your order plan (or assume same as last time).

Kiyomi immediately begins a rousing chorus, inspiring her allies to valor. Into the refrain she works in a sonic screech, heard only by the target, who recoils sharply.

Kelda screams as she flies into a rage, charging forward to attack the nearest leper hobgoblins. She rams him with her shield, knocking it to the ground as she runs right over and up to the large reptilian monster.

Heng steps up into the air and shoves through the chains to engage one of the two humanoids there; they are man-sized, with terribly scarred, pale flesh covered by a tangle of chains. They hang from the larger chains with the agility and grace of tree-borne monkeys. (Image) Heng lands a crushing blow, knocking it back in the chains.

Malnival moves up to get into range before blasting the serpent-woman with two fiery rays, eliciting screams of pain from the scorching magic. Harlan moves away from the edge and hops off Skygni, honing his aim towards the serpent.

Lastly, Parity unleashes the fireball energy into the enemy formation, and Kelda. The blast has good effects on the two larger foes and the standing leper, but the female monks evade all damage. Kelda also instinctively ducks in time, avoiding the brunt of the spell.

Round One, continued...

The chain-riders extend some of their fiendish magic into the chains they touch, causing them to animate and sprout razor-edge barbs. The chains lash and attack Heng, Parity, Harlan and Kiyomi, leaving deep cuts behind.

The hobgoblins attack! The prone leper gains his feet and moves to flank Kelda. The other leper and one of the females charge Malnival, and he dodges and blocks their attacks. Surrounded, Kelda takes a few glancing blows from the second female and the reptile, but manages to absorb and block a good number of hits.

The serpent-woman starts to cast a spell, and Harlan snipes her with a well-aimed bolt. The missile clips her scales, drawing some blood, but is not enough to distract the casting. Her magic responds to Malnival in kind, scorching him with two fiery rays of her own.

Firing her bow rapidly, Kiyomi pincushions the northern chain-devil. Though her arrows barely pierce their link armor, the acid-laced missiles make heavy marks. Screaming wildly, Kelda lays her sword into the reptilian beast, carving two great wounds and nearly decapitating it. The monster collapses in a bloody heap.

Heng hammers at the southern devil, which dances around and through the chains, trying to dodge. Heng is relentless, and though he misses a couple, lands a solid second and third strike to kill the foe. As it dies, the chain-devil's body decomposes into a tangle of small chains that scatter as they hit the floor.

Malnival attacks the female monk, scimitar flashing like lightning. She parries his first slash, but the next two are precise and deadly. Missing an arm and half her neck, the hobgoblin falls. Harlan fires his crossbow at the serpent-woman with machine-like speed, connecting with two bolts. She hisses and roars, now bleeding from several wounds.

Parity charges across the room, air walking directly over the melee. He swings Suishen hard at the serpent, but she coils away just enough to avoid the blow.

The remaining chain-rider shifts a few feet and redirects its animated chains all against Kiyomi, lashing her with two of the bladed edges.

The leper slams Malnival with a scab-covered fist, but the elf lurches away from the follow-up swing.

The remaining monk and second leper batter Kelda with punches and nunchaku strikes, and she weathers them all with only more defiant bellows. Still, Kelda's many wounds are starting to take their toll.

The serpent rears back, hissing and snapping her fangs into Parity's thigh before he can react. The force of the bite cuts through his magically hardened skin and he feels the slow burn of venom pulse throug his leg.

You're right, no Bless, I thought I'd cast it but I never posted as such before we went in.

Seeing Kelda taking a beating, Harlan attempts to rescue her by limping faster than he's ever limped before.

30' with Haste gives me 45', taking one diagonal "south" then straight to W42 then up one to V43 should only draw an AoO from Yellow Hob. Then a CLW (which doesn't provoke) on Kelda.

Kiyomi continues to rain arrows on the remaining chain devil, clipping it again and again. It manages to hang on, but barely, until Heng marches over and crushes its chest in with a solid finishing blow.

Kelda rages on, hacking her sword at the female hobgoblin with wild abandon. Her attacks come fast and hard, cutting three terrible wounds before the monk can adjust her defense. Kelda lurches in for the finishing move, using her own teeth to tear out the hobgoblin's throat. Frothing blood, Kelda spins to face her next foe. Kelda has arrived! =D

Limping along quickly, Harlan moves to Kelda's side and aids her with a healing spell. She doesn't acknowledge, but it staunches some of her wounds.

Malnival's scimitar never ceases moving, flowing gracefully from the fallen monk and neatly carving down the leper in two quick slashes. A third decapitates the wretch and ends the threat.

Parity ripostes with Suishen, barely penetrating the serpent's armor, but the channeled force magic utterly ravages where it connects. The serpent woman flies back, hitting the great doors with a sickening crunch. She slides down to the floor with a dying hiss.

The sole remaining foe, a hobgoblin leper, fights on knowing his own doom in imminent. He screams, "Munasukaru!" as he flails fists at Kelda. The berserker easily blocks them with her shield.

As the final foe falls, Kelda releases her rage and slumps to her knees, huffing in exhaustion. The break in fighting gives you a moment to look around. The walls adjacent to the double doors are hung with rows of iron gibbets, hanging from chains. Limp forms are visible through the bars of the cages; half still appear to be living, the others have long since succumbed to torture and disease from the captors.

The great doors are massive, each nearly fifteen feet in height, constructed of red-painted wood and banded with iron.

Loot:
The lepers carry nothing other than their rags, and the destrachan was bare. The two monks each wielded +1 nunchaku and carried amulets of natural armor +1 and bracers of armor +2. Like their predecessors, they wear jeweled studs for piercings.

The naga wears a magnificent inlaid platinum-and-jade pendant of great size (non-magical).


Parity:
Suishen hums in your hand as you near the doors. There is another... [i]me nearby.[/i] A pause. More specifically, one of the ancestral weapons of the five royal families. I can sense its presence ahead.
