DM Barcas - Kingmaker of Korvosa (Inactive)

Game Master Isaac Duplechain

When the King of Korvosa dies, the city plunges into chaos. Who will emerge from the ashes as ruler of the city, or will Korvosa tear itself apart before anyone can rise to the occasion?

D'oh! For some reason I thought a signet ring was included with the noble's outfit, but I just checked and apparently it's not. Would it be okay to say that Rica does have one, and lower her gold appropriately? It's okay if not. I think I can come up with a reason as to why she wouldn't have hers.

It's fine. I'd assume that she'd hang onto one for situations where it could be handy.

So the Hellknights are all Fighter 5/Hellknight 1. They're meant to be super-tough at this level. You should run from them, because they are incredibly dangerous.

By the way, I use Hero Points in my games, under the following rules (which I have added to my profile).

HERO POINTS

All PCs gain 1 Hero Point each time they level up.

You can use 1 Hero Point to do any of the following actions. You can only use 1 Hero Point per turn for these actions.
1. Gain an extra action of any type less than full-round.
2. Gain a +8 bonus to a d20 roll if spent before or a +4 bonus if spent after.
3. Perform a readied action without readying.
4. Regain a spell or use of a limited special ability.
5. Reroll a d20.

You can use 2 Hero Points to do the following, regardless of if you have used a Hero Point this turn.
6. Survive a fatal attack (2 points)

Oh Yeah....Definitely glad Senjin ran when he did.

I'm back now... Looks like things took a turn for the crazy when I left! I'll be catching up today and should have a post later on or tomorrow.

I'm sorry for my absence. I've been horrifically sick with bronchitis these past few days, but I'm clearing up. I'm going to post either right after I post this, or tomorrow morning, depending on if the medicine I just took knocks me out.

I've been watching avidly, but it seems like Elrith and Senjin had stuff to do before we all met up again, or me and Rica scampered after Alejandro on the streets.

Funny story, apparently my body thought it proper to sleep an entire day. Good news? The medicine apparently knocked my sickness out too. Wooh!

Anyway, posting now.

Glad to hear your healing up!

So, are you going to head through the University/Museum district (where there is little actual rioting going on) towards Old Korvosa, or stop to explore what is going on in the library?

I vote for exploring the museum, when rounds take seconds, we can go in and look around quickly, something is making obvious noise, and I'm curious.

Plus it's Jeggare-donated stuff. I'm sure that has nothing to do with it.

More importantly, the staff are likely Jeggare retainers. Of course, that has little import to just a regular old beggar! *whistles innocently*

I'm just confused by why people keep referring to an 'estate'. I thought it was a University campus.

Dark Archive

Who mentioned estate? Did I? I don't think I did... I may have though. If so, I aplogise!

I said estate! I misspoke. Regardless, my tally-hoing was intended to be after Rica summoned, but I worded it poorly, it seems.

Blackjack is a lot of fun to play. Of course, you can safely assume his story is quite different as is printed, secret identity included.

Posting now. I lost computer access for a day or two, and then just dropped the ball yesterday. I'm so sorry. Dx

It's all right. I've been busy too!

It's come to my attention that with me trying to run two games, combined with some recent stress in my life, I won't be able to meet the post a day requirement for the next week or so. If that's a problem, I'll drop out so a more active player can step up.

Basically, I'm afraid I overloaded myself, so I'd like to give myself a week of slow posting to see if I can't sort things out with rl and my games. If you do want to keep me on, I'm completely happy with having Rica npc'd if I'm not quick enough, but I understand if that's something you don't want to deal with.

I'm really sorry guys. Things just kind of hit me out of nowhere.

As long as it's not a permanent thing, it's fine. Real life can get busy. We all have times with minimal free time.

AC 18, T 18, FF 15; F +7, R +8, W +9 (+2 vs enchantments); Perc: +15; Init: +4; Max HP: 75 Current HP: 75

I'm still here, but with those rolls and those speeches, Elrith is wisely keeping her elven mouth shut! :)

We all still here?

I've been busy lately. It's been a full moon or something, because people have gone a little nuts. I got into a fight today with a suspect who, despite being outnumbered 5 to 1, nearly won. (He was huge.) We recovered something like 22 pounds of marijuana and a gun from his hotel room and vehicle. Something's in the water; it's been busy like this most of the summer.

I'm also leaving patrol soon. I'm heading, as of Saturday, to an investigative position. I'm very excited, but will probably have even less time (during the day) to post. I will probably have more time off-work, though.

Still here, just lost last week to college/starting a masters. Should be back in the game now!

Well done on your new position!

I'm still here. My wife and I just moved and decided to try doing all the painting at once while we had the house empty. Painting every wall and ceiling in a three-storey house...

...in one week...

...last brush stroke went on last night at 1:40 am.

Male Human (Chelaxian/Varisian) Inquisitor (Preacher) 1

I'm around. I've been rather busy with my new job. We're really starting to ramp up with things to do, so I don't have nearly as much time as I used to during the day. And I come home to class, homework, a baby, and exercise, so I don't have much more time at home.

I should still be able to post periodically throughout the day, but I like to spend time on my posts if possible. Hopefully it won't be a problem.

I'm catching up now. You'll see a post from me soon.

AC 18, T 18, FF 15; F +7, R +8, W +9 (+2 vs enchantments); Perc: +15; Init: +4; Max HP: 75 Current HP: 75

Is that Elrith's surprise round action accounted for now, or does she get another attack?

That was her surprise round, but her high Initiative means that her enemies will still be flat-footed when it swings around again.

I think if we are waiting on Rica, we may have a long wait unfortunately. Looks like she dropped the games she was running and has not had any recent activity. Hope she finds the time for at least this game, but for the moment she may need to be nudged either in or out of the way.

Been quiet on the Alejandro front too.

Alejandro's PC is broken. He has almost no access at all.

Told me to tell ye all.

Guys, I fear that I might be overextended right now. Between the hours of my new assignment (0600-1400), the expectations of my new apartment manager (that I basically patrol at 2300 hrs and 0500 hrs, and apparently never sleep), and classes on the other side of the city on Wednesday and Thursday, I can't give this game the appropriate attention it deserves.

How would you feel about putting this game on hiatus for a few weeks or months, until I've fully transitioned into the way things are? It'll give Alejandro and Rica the opportunity to get back as well, and I can use what little free time I have to map out more of where I want this campaign to go. As it stands, this one takes the most out of my creativity, as it deviates most from the adventure as written.

Tell me what you guys think. I want to give the campaign the attention it deserves, and to be the best DM/storyteller I can be. I just can't do that until I get in the swing of things.

Take the time you need. Your gaming shouldn't add stress to your life. You do such a great job, I am sure people can wait it out as you settle in on the duties of your promotion (that is so much more important). I am enjoying the hell out of this game so I hope everyone can sit tight.

AC 18, T 18, FF 15; F +7, R +8, W +9 (+2 vs enchantments); Perc: +15; Init: +4; Max HP: 75 Current HP: 75

Good luck with everything. I shall be waiting with bated breath and check the game thread daily until your return.

I'll have to finally start using RSS, just to make sure that I don't miss it when you guys start up again. Your game is that fun to watch.

Well, I've re-established some level of control in my life, although I've added a baby to the mix since last October. I've gotten into a good rhythm at work, gotten through the toughest semester at school, and my apartment job is ending soon as I look for a house.

Who is still here?

Vagrant Poet (Lucadeno) left my other games a while back when his grad school overloaded him. While he intends on returning, it may not be for a while.

Acidrica (Rica) seems to have disappeared from the boards as well.

I've messaged everyone, so hopefully we can have some check-ins to see who is still around and still interested.

AC 18, T 18, FF 15; F +7, R +8, W +9 (+2 vs enchantments); Perc: +15; Init: +4; Max HP: 75 Current HP: 75

HERE! (not that you can probably see her, cause she's so stealthy and all)

It looks like DarkestHeart (Alejandro) might also be missing.

So, Alistair, Elrith, and Senjin...

Male Human (Chelaxian/Varisian) Inquisitor (Preacher) 1

I am still around! Might take a little bit to figure out my character again. I am also interested in Skull & Shackles and even have a few character ideas I've been floating around for it, if you decide to go that route.

I've been re-reading Kingmaker of Korvosa. It was a really stunning story that we were developing. You guys consistently brought your A-game.

AC 18, T 18, FF 15; F +7, R +8, W +9 (+2 vs enchantments); Perc: +15; Init: +4; Max HP: 75 Current HP: 75

Damn, now you've made me go back and have a look at the old game thread, too! There was some amazing story telling and amazing writing going on there. I don't know how much of it was us bringing our A-games, and how much you demanding it of us with your brilliant example.

I've adopted so many of your ways of doing things in the games I run, from the inquisition-style recruitment method, to posting enemy stats so the players can narrate the results of their actions (I still get a bit of resistance on that one), but for all the fine and seemingly insignificant details you include in a post that just make the scenes come alive, it's incredible.

Skulls and Shackles or this game continued on (or even rebooted from scratch, if you like that option), I can't wait. If you do decide to go with the pirate game, I do have a few unused character ideas to consider...

Also, could you switch this campaign to "Active", just so this discussion thread comes up on my Campaigns Tab?

Male Human (Chelaxian/Varisian) Inquisitor (Preacher) 1

I seem to remember wishing I could post a little more often back then. Since then most of my PbPs have died, though I just got accepted into a new Kingmaker game. I have a lot more time on my hands now, though, so I think I'll be able to keep up with it better. And I think I've gotten a little better at PbP now as well, as long as I spend time to think about what I'm going to post before posting it.

It was/is a fun story!

AC 18, T 18, FF 15; F +7, R +8, W +9 (+2 vs enchantments); Perc: +15; Init: +4; Max HP: 75 Current HP: 75

Any ideas what you'd like to do if you did decide to continue the Korvosa game? Continue on, writing our lost players out and new characters in? Restarting from scratch with new characters? ... Well, I guess those are about the only two options, really. I wouldn't mind backing up to the beginning, keeping the prologue (per-meeting) stuff, probably just by copying and pasting it into a new campaign thread, and letting the new players have their own introductions.

Besides, who doesn't want to read more of the coy interplay and frustrated sexual tensions between Elrith and the hapless Knuckles?

AC 18, T 18, FF 15; F +7, R +8, W +9 (+2 vs enchantments); Perc: +15; Init: +4; Max HP: 75 Current HP: 75

Honestly, my only personal resistance to Skulls and Shackles is that some folks will no doubt want to play gunslingers or gun users of some kind and I am, sadly, firmly entrenched in the "no guns in my fantasy" camp.

Male Human (Chelaxian/Varisian) Inquisitor (Preacher) 1

I'm not a fan of guns either... I'm more interested in swashbuckling and derring-do. You know, like swinging from ropes and such. I also don't care to play evil characters, just chaotic ones for a pirate campaign. I have two characters that I bounce back and forth between, actually. An urban barbarian and dervish dancing bard mix is the first, and a knifemaster is the other. Both would be fun, I think!

I spoke to Lucadeno's player today. He said he'd like to get involved again. He said he would also try to track down Alejandro.

AC 18, T 18, FF 15; F +7, R +8, W +9 (+2 vs enchantments); Perc: +15; Init: +4; Max HP: 75 Current HP: 75

Yay! Sounds like KoK might be back in business (minus Rica :( ).

Definitely here! Really enjoyed this at the time. I am currently in S&S campaign and a separate pirate campaign, so I would pass if you go that route. Good to see the others are (mostly) still around.

I'm really hoping to get Luca and Alejandro back. We could seamlessly re-start, though I'd probably skip a few days and just jump to the aftermath of the King's death.

Luca says both he and Alejandro will try to come back! Let's hope they do.

I also found Rica's email and sent an email to try to get her back.

In the meantime, I'm going to push ahead. We're going to skip a few days, to the King's funeral. I'll get an intro post up

If they don't come back, what do you guys want to do? We could reopen recruitment or try to adopt known players.
