By the way, I use Hero Points in my games, under the following rules (which I have added to my profile).
HERO POINTS
All PCs gain 1 Hero Point each time they level up.
You can use 1 Hero Point to do any of the following actions. You can only use 1 Hero Point per turn for these actions.
1. Gain an extra action of any type less than full-round.
2. Gain a +8 bonus to a d20 roll if spent before or a +4 bonus if spent after.
3. Perform a readied action without readying.
4. Regain a spell or use of a limited special ability.
5. Reroll a d20.
You can use 2 Hero Points to do the following, regardless of if you have used a Hero Point this turn.
6. Survive a fatal attack (2 points)

It's come to my attention that with me trying to run two games, combined with some recent stress in my life, I won't be able to meet the post a day requirement for the next week or so. If that's a problem, I'll drop out so a more active player can step up.
Basically, I'm afraid I overloaded myself, so I'd like to give myself a week of slow posting to see if I can't sort things out with rl and my games. If you do want to keep me on, I'm completely happy with having Rica npc'd if I'm not quick enough, but I understand if that's something you don't want to deal with.
I'm really sorry guys. Things just kind of hit me out of nowhere.

We all still here?
I've been busy lately. It's been a full moon or something, because people have gone a little nuts. I got into a fight today with a suspect who, despite being outnumbered 5 to 1, nearly won. (He was huge.) We recovered something like 22 pounds of marijuana and a gun from his hotel room and vehicle. Something's in the water; it's been busy like this most of the summer.
I'm also leaving patrol soon. I'm heading, as of Saturday, to an investigative position. I'm very excited, but will probably have even less time (during the day) to post. I will probably have more time off-work, though.

I'm around. I've been rather busy with my new job. We're really starting to ramp up with things to do, so I don't have nearly as much time as I used to during the day. And I come home to class, homework, a baby, and exercise, so I don't have much more time at home.
I should still be able to post periodically throughout the day, but I like to spend time on my posts if possible. Hopefully it won't be a problem.
I'm catching up now. You'll see a post from me soon.

I think if we are waiting on Rica, we may have a long wait unfortunately. Looks like she dropped the games she was running and has not had any recent activity. Hope she finds the time for at least this game, but for the moment she may need to be nudged either in or out of the way.
Been quiet on the Alejandro front too.

Guys, I fear that I might be overextended right now. Between the hours of my new assignment (0600-1400), the expectations of my new apartment manager (that I basically patrol at 2300 hrs and 0500 hrs, and apparently never sleep), and classes on the other side of the city on Wednesday and Thursday, I can't give this game the appropriate attention it deserves.
How would you feel about putting this game on hiatus for a few weeks or months, until I've fully transitioned into the way things are? It'll give Alejandro and Rica the opportunity to get back as well, and I can use what little free time I have to map out more of where I want this campaign to go. As it stands, this one takes the most out of my creativity, as it deviates most from the adventure as written.
Tell me what you guys think. I want to give the campaign the attention it deserves, and to be the best DM/storyteller I can be. I just can't do that until I get in the swing of things.

Well, I've re-established some level of control in my life, although I've added a baby to the mix since last October. I've gotten into a good rhythm at work, gotten through the toughest semester at school, and my apartment job is ending soon as I look for a house.
Who is still here?
Vagrant Poet (Lucadeno) left my other games a while back when his grad school overloaded him. While he intends on returning, it may not be for a while.
Acidrica (Rica) seems to have disappeared from the boards as well.
I've messaged everyone, so hopefully we can have some check-ins to see who is still around and still interested.

Damn, now you've made me go back and have a look at the old game thread, too! There was some amazing story telling and amazing writing going on there. I don't know how much of it was us bringing our A-games, and how much you demanding it of us with your brilliant example.
I've adopted so many of your ways of doing things in the games I run, from the inquisition-style recruitment method, to posting enemy stats so the players can narrate the results of their actions (I still get a bit of resistance on that one), but for all the fine and seemingly insignificant details you include in a post that just make the scenes come alive, it's incredible.
Skulls and Shackles or this game continued on (or even rebooted from scratch, if you like that option), I can't wait. If you do decide to go with the pirate game, I do have a few unused character ideas to consider...
Also, could you switch this campaign to "Active", just so this discussion thread comes up on my Campaigns Tab?
Alistair Corinth |
I seem to remember wishing I could post a little more often back then. Since then most of my PbPs have died, though I just got accepted into a new Kingmaker game. I have a lot more time on my hands now, though, so I think I'll be able to keep up with it better. And I think I've gotten a little better at PbP now as well, as long as I spend time to think about what I'm going to post before posting it.
It was/is a fun story!

Any ideas what you'd like to do if you did decide to continue the Korvosa game? Continue on, writing our lost players out and new characters in? Restarting from scratch with new characters? ... Well, I guess those are about the only two options, really. I wouldn't mind backing up to the beginning, keeping the prologue (per-meeting) stuff, probably just by copying and pasting it into a new campaign thread, and letting the new players have their own introductions.
Besides, who doesn't want to read more of the coy interplay and frustrated sexual tensions between Elrith and the hapless Knuckles?
Elrithrathiel |
Honestly, my only personal resistance to Skulls and Shackles is that some folks will no doubt want to play gunslingers or gun users of some kind and I am, sadly, firmly entrenched in the "no guns in my fantasy" camp.
Alistair Corinth |
I'm not a fan of guns either... I'm more interested in swashbuckling and derring-do. You know, like swinging from ropes and such. I also don't care to play evil characters, just chaotic ones for a pirate campaign. I have two characters that I bounce back and forth between, actually. An urban barbarian and dervish dancing bard mix is the first, and a knifemaster is the other. Both would be fun, I think!
DM Barcas |
Luca says both he and Alejandro will try to come back! Let's hope they do.
I also found Rica's email and sent an email to try to get her back.
In the meantime, I'm going to push ahead. We're going to skip a few days, to the King's funeral. I'll get an intro post up
If they don't come back, what do you guys want to do? We could reopen recruitment or try to adopt known players.
