Welcome everyone to Part 3: Escape from Korvosa.

I will be posting up the IC thread in a sec, but I always post the OOC first as it's the easiest and fastest to post up.

Cool - as a note, I do not know whats up with Paizo, but when I clicked on the link in the OCC for CotCT 2, it sent me to the Paizo store, not this chat. No clue why, although I got the same redirecting on another character earlier today. I found this by clicking on your post on your profile.

Yeah, some others have had that problem too.

Here is a mentionin the forwarding of this part that I quite like and am sure you all appreciate that. This was written by James Jacobs and I am sure you all share his sympaphies as this AP was released recently after the death of Gary Gygax.

James Jacobs wrote:

E. Gary Gygax (1938–2008)
I’m writing this foreword only four days after the death of another author whose work has influenced my life perhaps to a far greater extent than any other, in fact. I’m talking, of course, about E. Gary Gygax, the co-creator of Dungeons & Dragons.

Gary was a guest at our booth at Gen Con 2007, but as my schedule worked out, I was not at our booth either time he was there signing books and talking to fans. As I returned to the booth, he was leaving for his next event. He seemed genuinely happy to be at Gen Con, to be talking to his fans, and to be a part of the hobby he helped invent and shape.

My first exposure to D&D was in 5th grade. My teacher, Spencer Brooks, divided the class up into groups and ran us through a dungeon he designed during alternating lunch breaks, and when a group finished an encounter, someone had to write up that encounter as a short story. My first actual D&D product was the red box, a reward I earned for going door to door selling gift cards to my neighbors. And the first time I realized Gygax was the type of guy I’d like to meet someday was when I picked up my copy of Expedition to the Barrier Peaks. Down there on the map of the second level of the strange metal cave, the walls spelled out a word if you looked at that section of the map upside down: EGG. I can’t remember how long it took me to figure out it was a hidden signature. That was when I realized the guy who invented my favorite game was probably really cool in real life.

Yet I never met him face to face. I exchanged a few emails with him during the course of various Dungeon projects, but that was about it. Nevertheless, his work has probably been the single most important influence on my life as a whole outside of my family. The majority of my
friends today I met through a shared love of D&D, and I certainly owe my career to him. He seemed like a guy I could listen to for as long as he’d be willing to put up with me sitting there.

I never met Gary Gygax. But I miss him like I had.

Very heartwarming, he was a inspiration to us all.

Yep - my favorite is the intro from the AD&D Dungeon Master's Guide in which he pretty much says that the rules are guidelines you can modify however you want - but that the goal is to have fun. I will have to find it and type it up. I know where the book is as my box of old modules got wet this summer when we had a flood in out basement and it was at the top of the box.

I do not think I have Barrier Peaks - what is that Module S4 or something I believe. Those are about the only ones I never bought S1 - Tomb of Horrors, S2, S3 and S4 - Barrier Peaks - forget the names of the other two.

Expedition to the Barrier Peaks was S3. Tomb of Horrors S1, White Plume Moutain S2 and Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth was S4. I think I have most of them still. True classics. The good old days. D&D and the industry that grew up in its shadow definitely had a strong and positive influence on my whole life.

So whats up with the dots? I have seen them on a lot of your threads, just not sure what the meaning is or the origin.

People will "dot" a thread they want to follow so they can see a dot by the thread in the list of threads to more easily tell when a new post has be made to that thread...

Before this new fsngled campaign format came out a few days ago, i'd navigate all my games using dots and the 'focus' button; hard to find the dozen or so games i'm involved in without it.

But surely this new campaign formate has made it easier? It's made things easier on this end as I don't need as many tabs anymore.

See, I like new stuff.

I didn't say it made it any harder, I like it. Just explaining why I needed my dots before it (and still do as some of my games don't have 'campaigns' yet).

Ah - makes sense. I was realized I could use the dots when tracking campaigns I was applying for. I know I can do it for others, but with so many campaigns I never really tried it to follow them, just made a bunch of bookmarks to the last page of each campaign. Of course I always use the same computer, if I used multiple, then the dotting would be very useful.

Female Aasimar Cleric 9/Rogue 2) (HP: 93/93; AC: 25; FF: 21; Touch: 14

Will have to think about it as we move forward, but if I put my next bonus stat into Int to get that to 13, and then take Combat Expertise, Butterfly's Sting, and Improved Critical - I could have a Crit range of 15-20 with the rapier and then transfer that crit to Krenn with his 4x axe --> that would be a sweet combination against big monsters.

Would not be done until like level 12, but hey - transferring a 30% crit chance to a 4x damage bonus would really hurt monsters.

The sheer number of feats is unbelievable. I have been trying to assemble them in a systematic, but in character, method. If I was not already multi-class, I might take a level or two of fighter just for the bonus feats.

Is DM Aron around? He usually leaves posts when he is away for a few days, and has not posted in 2 days on either of the campaigns I am in. Just wondering when he is going to be back.

Llyra sneaks into the internet provider.

Stealth: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (19) + 14 = 33

Finds the person responsible for DM Aron losing his internet and then:

Attempts to diplomatically explain that this cannot occur again - Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12

When that does not work due to the manager having a 0 Int, she switches to Intimidating him: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20 and then just using her whip as a reminder to other supervisors that this internet connection is not to be interfered with again.

lol, well Virgin Media seems to have it's mess ups every now and then. Made me laugh when the box got replaced.

Basically origonally they build the modem into the viewing box for the TV, however after so many years they realised that not only does the modem part barely work that way, but it was far easier and more effective to have a seporate modem.

the real problem with having it in the viewing box was that if you needed to reset it, you had to reset the box so if someone was watching TV you'd either piss them off by resetting it or wait for them to finish watching their program or adverts.

Eitherway, it's something I've gotten used to and even then I would've probably tried to respond by blackberry if it still wasn't back.

That is only caster level 6 for me, remember, I have 4 rogue levels as well. Magic items are based upon caster levels, so the magic item feats are pretty useless for me for at least 5-7 levels I figure. - Except maybe Craft Wands to make wands of bull strength, bear constitution, healing and stuff.

I would strongly consider the feat Additional Traits to pick up Magical Knack to help your hurting caster level. And another trait to boot.

Which led me to look at the traits I have and realize that I have 2 combat traits. DM Aron, I would have probably taken magical knack had I realized exactly what it was. Any chance I can drop anatomist or reactionary and pick up Magical Knack at this stage in the adventure?

Thanks - I added magical knack and dropped Reactionary. DM Aron, I do not know whether you have a list of our stats and modifiers, but my Initiative bonus is now +3 for Dex, and not +5. Whereas my effective caster level for cleric spells is level 5 - this includes save DC for any offensive spells I have.

Doesn't affect save DC's but effects anything dependent on caster level (quite a lot) and checks to pass spell resistance.

Quiet today - is DM Aron's internet down again?

Was just thinking - always dangerous. If I took Craft Wand, could I craft wands with Jerin's help? Wondering this, because it would be nice to have things such as a Wand of Shield for Krenn - that way he could use it on himself before going into battle and essentially have a shield bonus of +4 and still fight two handed with his axe. It would also let us make wands of healing, fireballs, etc. Wands of Bull's Strength, Bear Con, etc. are also nice.

nah just me becoming an addict to The Witcher. I have the laptop next to me on the bed, but I rarely went to it as there were drowners and things to kill.

Not sure what you mean, but if you have shield on your spell sheet (including domains I believe) then you could make a wand of shield or are you suggesting Jerin makes it?

The great thing about wands I find is that they are spell activation so anyone with the spell can use them.

Female Aasimar Cleric 9/Rogue 2) (HP: 93/93; AC: 25; FF: 21; Touch: 14

No - rather than Jerin taking the wand feat, I could take it. There are many spells - like Bear Endurance and Bull Strength - which both of us can cast, but many spells, Shield for instance, I do not have. Thus, if I wanted to craft a Wand of Shield, it would require assistance from him. So, I was wondering - forward looking here - whether I could craft the wand and use his shield spell. And, if we can do this, how would it effect the creation time. I do have Shield of Faith, but that is not as strong as the mage Shield spell.

Not sure what the Witcher is, but I will have to avoid it, the last thing I need right now is another game to become addicted to.

Female Aasimar Cleric 9/Rogue 2) (HP: 93/93; AC: 25; FF: 21; Touch: 14

DM Aron - I just realized that I did take the Trap Spotter rogue skill. I thought that I had chosen an additional weapon feat, but apparently not.

Trap Spotter (Ex): Whenever a rogue with this talent comes within 10 feet of a trap, she receives an immediate Perception skill check to notice the trap. This check should be made in secret by the GM.

Hi. I remember seeing you post up an apoology a while back and nice to see you again.

It's something I hate about being a DM is I can't discuss future events with the one person I know who knows about Pathfinder because he's in the game :p

You could always spoiler it and say players stay out. I'm in a Realm of the Fell Night Queen PbP on these boards where the DM and Neil Spicer (the module's author) are exchanging notes via spoilers, and I am just aching to finish the module so I can go back and see what they were discussing. It has been quite tempting, but I have never been one to read the last page of a mystery, if you know what I mean. If you're interested, click into my Taecuss alias to find the threads.
