GMSmashtag |
This is a free-form game with a loose story that will be shaped by the players.
Setting information:
Alternate Earth is a strange place. Socially, the etiquette of Real Earth's late 1800's hold sway; advanced technology such as computers, robotics, and airships exist alongside magic, sentient animals, and living avatars of the gods. The landscape is malleable: scars and craters from past conflicts between magi lay alongside mountains raised by Mole engineers.
It is in this world that Baron Eichorn Von Ryuko held a series of parties under the ostensible cover of a land giveaway. Eager aristocrats, rich in title but poor in holdings, flocked to his parties to claim their shares, only to find that assassins lurked with hidden blades, ready to jump upon their own prizes.
Von Ryuko's last scheme, however, went awry as the aristocrats refused to play his sadistic game of accusation, lynching, and paranoia.
Now the aristocrats stand in a ruined ballroom filled with smoke; what lies in store for them is as shrouded in mystery as Von Ryuko's plots...
For the prologue to this game, see DougFungus' Murder Mystery Tour.
This is a game where the main constraints lie only in your imagination. Your character can be anything you want (with the exception that you must have limits; see below). The setting is shaped by the players as well: If you want to fly a pirate airship, then pirate airships exist. If you want there to be a forest nearby, there is a forest nearby. What players create exists in the game and for the other players to interact with.
This game has few rules.
1. Any action taken that involves another character must be left open to give them a chance to respond.
Example: GMSmashtag: "I draw my sword and run GMSeirou through!" is NOT acceptable, as I did not give Seirou a chance to respond. "I draw my sword and attempt to run GMSeirou through!" IS acceptable, as GMSeirou has a chance to respond by either parrying, dodging, accepting the hit, etc.
2. Characters are fallible. You must play your weaknesses as well as your strengths. No 'god-moding'; I.E. your character must have a reasonable explanation as to why he can destroy a mountain to actually destroy it, and the other characters must be given the opportunity to stop you if they so choose. Limitless power quickly becomes both annoying and boring in a pure RP setting.
3. GMSmashtag and GMSeirou will be available to answer any questions or assist in resolving any conflicts. PM us, or post in the discussion thread.
4. Multiple characters will be allowed as soon as the game gets underway and as long as the players feel that more characters would be beneficial to the game.
I will set up the initial gameplay post as soon as all players check in.
Thank you for playing, and have fun!
Cassie DuSollier |
Cassie sips at the wine, before draining the scarlet liquid until there's only a faint sheen of the remnants upon the glass sides and a drop in the bottom. "Here you go," she proffers the goblet. "Be careful of the glass, least-wise it'll be as sharp as that vintage." her rich tones gasp at the drinks' potency.
Taraz the Wastrel |
Taraz regards the seemingly small blue-colored dragon with amusement. "I long suspected you allowed some kind of wild wyrm up your skirts, Alessandra, but this..." he gestures to Jeraclya Carewyr, his voice trails off slightly. Then he chuckles and says, "Jin is a brave, brave man. My hat's off to him."
Taraz mimes the removal of a head cover and bows slightly while twirling his wrist several times in front of himself with the imaginary hat. If the currently unseen assassin sees this has yet to be known.
Jeraclya Carewyr |
Jeraclya delicately takes the glass with her front claws and licks it in two snake-like flicks of a tongue. "Glass is tasty"she chirps before sticking her snout into the cup. Turning with said cup in place to look at Taraz with a huffy expression. "It's a cup, silly human, not a skirt. Learn your treasures." Snorts, filling the glass temporarily with smoke that she then proceeds to lick out by sitting on her rump and using her claws to hold, all the while making silly faces of enjoyment.
Cassie DuSollier |
Cassie smiles to the spirit, intrigued by the roiling smoke, the chaotic flows of the streamers; "I don't think he treasures so much the skirt, as what is inside it." she quirks an eyebrow in Taraz' direction as her eyes sparkle with humour. With a roll of her shoulders she awaits his cutting retort or Servo-bot induced mischief.
Baron Gigus Von Zombi |
Well, this is interesting. I was an artificial intellect installed into a body constructed of dead flesh. I most certainly did not expect to experience an afterlife. All I sought was sweet oblivion, that I would not harm those I had come to admire further!
...Was that a bloody dragon that just flew past?
Taraz the Wastrel |
"I don't think he treasures so much the skirt, as what is inside it." She quirks an eyebrow in Taraz's direction as her eyes sparkle with humour. With a roll of her shoulders she awaits his cutting retort or Servo-bot induced mischief.
Smiling, Taraz nods in Cassie's direction with acknowledgement twinkling in his eyes.
"Why yes, I do treasure..." Taraz pauses to gently pick up the Duchess and stroke her fur, "...what might be found under a lady's personal protection." Taraz grins wickedly and winks.
"But the Dame Devries is much safe from any quest to locate such a delicate flower as the one you waved under the noise of the Devil Duke. For my part anyway. We have already come to an understanding, Miss Alessandra and I. We leave her virtue to be discovered only by those willing to kill for it."
Taraz eyes dart around the area still seeking that which has not made its presence known...
Cassie DuSollier |
Cassie blushes hotly and her eyes go wide the bright cerulean standing out; "I have my personal protection here..." she runs her manicured finger up the barrel of the pistol - slightly suggestively.
"And I did NOT wave my 'flower' under either the Noise or Nose of Duke Leto. We danced cheek-to-cheek, we didn't swing." she says hotly.

*Thumbs up & man-hugs*
Funny you should mention. I have been planning on taking paternaty leave come this winter. I might actually stand a chance on keeping up with posts then.
It is a Girl. There were some complications which is why I have been absent but everything is fine now. I just need some time to catch up at home and then I'll be able to game again. Until then my attendance is probably going to he very sporadic.

This is a perfect opportunity for you guys to flesh the scenery out a bit more.
Feel free to use Cassie's random table for the condition of your airship if you wish.
However, if you'd prefer your airship was completely destroyed by Ryuko's bombardment or survived mostly unscathed, that is your call.
In addition, as the aristocrats leave the ballroom, feel free to describe the surroundings, building off of what has already been put in place.
Professor Alessandra Devries |
Dimly she realizes that Jin his here beside her and that makes it all alright.
I wanted to clarify, this is a physical presence rather than a spiritual presence. Jin is still alive...
I haven't heard anything from Jin, so I went ahead and made a new alias for posting IC with Jin.
Professor Alessandra Devries |
Yeah, sticking with the Lovers theme Alessandra probably wouldn't want to go on living if she couldn't do it with Jin. I'd write a suitably tragic suicide note of course, but I'm not ready to go that route yet...
BTW, field medicine is an interest of mine and I was wondering if you had more info on the treatment you mentioned. I did some research on crushing injuries and couldn't find anything specifically about lactic acid... do you have a reference on lactic acidosis/lactate buildup and relieving it via bloodletting? I was able to find information on Rhabdomyolysis in crushing victims as well as compartment syndrome in crushed tissue and faciotomies performed to alleviate them... inquiring minds want to know!
Cassie DuSollier |
Unfortunately the lactic acidosis was just something someone (St John's ambulance man) mentioned to me earlier that day. There was no actual mention of the treatment and blood-letting, but I just made that up. Sorry if it was too intrusive, it was only meant to be a small needle - any apologies.
Feel free to change any assessments of Cassies as she is not meant to be a perfect field medic.
I thought Jin's injuries could be nicely debilitating, so that we would have an excuse. But I made sure to make certain that he would not die.

You can pop back into consciousness as Taraz carries you out of the dungeon below Von Ryuko's manor house/castle. ;)
Not much has happened. The airships were bombarded as Baron Von Ryuko fled. Consolidation and repairs are underway while the less mechanically ept try to find the deep dark secrets hidden in the mansion. There has been a fire and just now an explosion. So really, it's your average aristocrat's party.
Taraz the Wastrel |
@Andrezi: Lol, what perfect timing! Yes, literally you're waking up as Taraz carries you through dark and gloomy corridors looking for an exit. If you would like, I would be happy to PM you what I would imagine your now hazy memory of your time in the lab with Taraz recalls, or you can just assume you only remember going under the throne and nothing else, if you just want to make a fresh start of it.
Vorian Ritter |
Heh. Well, I wouldn't exactly say that he would trust her as far he could throw her.
At any rate, all of these flashback scenes (well, all two or three of them) are making me feel like I'm in an episode of Lost...
