Healing Sorcerer interaction

Rules Questions

Trying to work out how this interaction between a trait, a bloodline work for cantrips and Celestial healing

Scarred by war -"... In addition, when you heal creatures other than yourself using class abilities, feats, spells, and spell-completion or spell-trigger magic items, you restore 1 additional hit point."

Unicorn Bloodline - Every time you cast a spell, you can restore a number of hit points equal to double the level of the spell you cast to one target of your choice that you can see. A creature at its maximum hit points cannot be affected by this ability. Healing a dying creature with this ability does not automatically stabilize the creature unless its hit points are brought to 0 or above.

So the question for cantrips is, when i cast the spell is it (0x2)+1 = 1 point of healing
or
is it because i dont heal anything with my ability by itself no healing is awarded.

Secondary Question, When I cast Celestial healing, Will scarred by war constantly proc for the duration of the fast healing or will it not apply at all?

There are a couple of traits usable on others that don't require "cure"/channel;
Anml Spirit Vital (rgnl) +1 HP 1/d with nearby anml.
Scarred by War (rlgn) worship Dalenydra. +1 trt Diplo not in cmbt, when you heal creatures other than yourself using class abilities, feats, spells, and spell-completion or spell-trigger magic items, you restore 1 additional hit point.

sadly no cantrip heals creatures.

Phoenix bloodline
Bloodline Arcana: cast a spell doing [fire]dmg can instead heal liv tgts [fire]dmg/2 {to Max HPs}.
Unicorn blooodline
Bloodline Arcana: cast a SplLvl spell & one tgt in LoS gets 2*SplLvl healing to Max HPs.

with a cantrip it is 2*Zero on a target in line of sight.

Most static benefits/extra damage only apply to one target at the start of the spell or once per die.
Celestial Healing:C1 would get the extra (2*1=2) healing on the second(initial) round (as it is a 1 rnd casting).

Either BL does not work with SLAs or Alchemist as those are not technically spell casting but the trait does.

ADVICE
honestly the trait is nice but not that effective (as it is casting on friends which means support time anyway). You could get +1 to a save, +2 CL on a multiclass, or -1 to MetaMag cost. Reach Metamagic with Cure Lgt Wnds or B Con is very effective.
As for the Unicorn bloodline, the healing is nice. Again, you're casting on friends so that means support spells and likely not during combat.
If you want to heal use a wand of Infernal Healing or Cure Lgt Wounds.
You can always take my build advice and dip into Cleric - varisian pilgrim 1 with magical knack trait for some cleric spells, their spell list, using Spellcraft rather than UMD, some class skills and armr/wpn proficiencies.

This is how I interpret it.

Cool, and im not arguing but I would kind of like a rule or something to point to. Like for example injury poisons say that you have to do damage to someone in order to inflict the poison, so if DR would reduce the damage to 0 you dont inflict the poison.

but contact poison is more it doesnt matter as long at you hit they need to make the fort save. Do you have anything?

Thanks.

Never say never!

with the right build even cantrips can heal (it might be a stupid, gimpy, late to appear build but..)

for phoenix.
a cross blooded phoenix\fire elemental can convert his damaging cantrips into fire damaging cantrips without increasing their level (unlike the metamagic), things that increase their damage like blood havoc will make it more usfull.

as for unicorn, not cantrips, but free healing might be open non the less.
This has been a debate on the forum for a long time, and while most won't agree with me (and i realy don't want to start this argument here) I still stand by my reasoning that in the magic chapter, casting a spell like ability is said to work exactly like spells except with a few mentioned differences, so anything that is triggered by a spell should also be triggered by a sla, and the unicorn bloodline give you an at will 3rd level one.

Sorry I think I missed this, The unicorn Bloodline gives you a spell-like ability?

i said it takes time:
Blessing (Su): At 20th level, you gain immunity to poison, to charm effects, and to spells and weapons with the evil descriptor. You can also cast magic circle against evil at will with a caster level equal to your sorcerer level.

well if u want to hurry, and GM allow for sla to work with the arcana (remmber, the debate!), then there are other ways to gain at will sla.

My fev is the ability to talk to animals, like from the trait: beastkin.
going with tattooed sorcerer for a familiar and taking that animal to be able to talk to it.
I played a halfling sorcerer raised by bunnies, convinced he himself is a large, short eared bunny. Named him 'Ussa' and his Bunny 'Gi' (look up Usagi)
GM said: 'ok, but since bunnies use their ears a lot to communicate, you have to wave your hands like bunny ears when u talk to your familiar.'
example

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Scared by War specifies an additional point when you heal someone. Unless the cantrip provides healing Scared by War does not apply.

The Unicorn bloodline power does not work. If you really want to heal with cantrips you could play a crossbloded phoenix, elemental (fire) sorcerer. The Phoenix bloodline allows you to turn fire damage into healing, but there are no damaging fire cantrips. The elemental bloodline arcana allows you to change the damage type of a spell to your element. By combining those two arcanas you can cast a jolt (or any damaging cantrip) turn the damage to fire and heal 1d3 (+1 for scarred by war) damage.

MS gets the main idea right but often gets the details wrong, so when/if I reply (as it is not critical) I have to check his post. And yes, I goof on occasion too.

yep, 1) is true.
5) Sorcerer Crossblooded archetype is more complicated after 1st level. It allows both Bloodline Arcana but users have to choose between Bloodline Powers. Then there's the loss of one spell known per spell level (including ZERO) and -2 Will, which equates to buying Pages of Spell Knowledge to cover that loss $(1k, 4k, 9k, 16k, 25k, 36k, 49k, 64k, 81k) and (2) Ioun Stone Amber Spindle Crk'd $6.4k (and ask your GM about Cloak interactions). The other subtle drawback to Elemental[Fire] is [fire] is common and thus energy resistance [fire] is likely. This is why Wizard Evoker-Admix is superior as it is adaptable.
Acid Splash (1d3)[acid], Ray of Frost (1d3)[cold], so Elemental[Fire] Bloodline Arcana yields (1d3)[fire] then Phoenix option for ⌊(1d3)/2⌋ healing {could be 0}, then usually 1) would add +1 heal.

Feat Options -
Elemental Spell metamagic (+1) for full or halfsies.

Flow of Elements feat for Elemental Spell metamagic at (+0 SplLvl).
