Monastic Archer Stance and Archetypes

Rules Discussion

Hello, I have question about monastic archer stance and archetypes.

Quote:
You can use your other monk feats or monk abilities that normally require unarmed attacks with these bows when attacking within half the first range increment (normally 50 feet for a longbow and 30 feet for a shortbow), so long as the feat or ability doesn't require a single, specific Strike.

Does the monastic archer stance function with the feats from the following archetypes ?

- Student of Perfection
- Jalmeri Heavenseeker
- Martial artist (only the feats with monk traits ? Path of Iron ...)

Thanks for your future answer.

No, it's specifically for Monk Feats and Abilities. Archetypes do not count.

Some abilities from archetypes do still work though. For example if you use Monastic Archer Stance with the Gakgung (a bow with the Monk trait), then Heaven's Thunder from Jalmeri Heavenseeker would add the damage as usual.

Also note that for Martial Artist (and any Archetype), the feats that normally have the [Monk] trait do not have it when taken from the Archetype, as described in "Additional Feats":

"Some archetypes include a list of “Additional Feats” that appear in other sources. The list includes each feat’s level, which might be different than normal when gained from the archetype. You can take the feat as an archetype feat of that level, meaning it counts toward the number of feats required by the archetype’s dedication feat. When selected this way, a feat that normally has a class’s trait (such as the fighter trait) doesn’t have that class trait."

If you are wanting to shut down the interaction, TheFinish has a good argument for doing that.

Many people are going to consider the listed archetypes to be close enough to Monk that it should qualify. If you want to allow the interaction for that reason, then there is still the limitation of Monastic Archer itself: "the feat or ability doesn't require a single, specific Strike."

Some are going to be clearly allowed. Some are going to be clearly forbidden. And some are going to be somewhere in the middle and may make different amounts of sense.

Heaven's Thunder looks like it works.

Path of Iron wouldn't work because it requires melee Strike.

The various Stance feats wouldn't work both because they are Stances and using them would end Monastic Archer Stance, and because most of them require using a specific Strike and would violate the limitation of Monastic Archer.

Steal the Sky is questionable. It only requires that any unarmed attack hit previously, so that could possibly be considered compatible with Monastic Archer causing bow Strikes within the first half of a range increment count as unarmed attacks.
