Spell Mirage. What can It do

Rules Discussion

Uncommon Concentrate Illusion Manipulate
Traditions arcane, occult, primal
Cast 10 minutes
Range 500 feet; Area 50-foot burst
Duration until your next daily preparations
You create an illusion that causes natural terrain to look, sound, feel, and smell like a different kind of terrain. This doesn't disguise any structures or creatures in the area.

Any creature that touches the illusion or uses the Seek action to examine it can attempt to disbelieve your illusion.
Heightened (5th) Your image can also disguise structures or create illusory structures (but still doesn't disguise creatures).

I was wandering what can you do with this spell. I plan on a small village siege soon and was thinking how having the enemy cast this to create some tall grass to block sight a little. Would this have any mechanical effects or even be possible with the spell. Should I have creatures inside the tall grass be "concealed"

On a more extreme note can I have the area inside the mirage be darker than if it was daylight or even just be complete blackness with extreme loud noises so creatures inside would be "undetected"

Thanks for your time.

I feel like total darkness with overwhelming noise might be pushing it a bit.

Tall grass sounds perfectly reasonable.

I recall the spell being used in a novel by a traitor to slow down the army he was with. They were stuck in his swamp for a goodly while before the army wizard figured it out and disintegrated the traitor.

Just to make sure but to make tall grass you need to use the 5th level version. The 4th Level version only allows for change in existing terrain, correct?

if the natural terrain surrounding the village is something like plains, you can switch it to a forest. Blocking something like a mounted charge from the attackers.

Forest would also give almost complete cover to the defenders of the village while they pelt with arrows the people that try to navigate through the forest to reach them (presumably since the defenders would know that it's an illusion and would have already "disbelieved" it, making the trees translucent for them but not the attackers).

Enemy combatants can also use the trees for cover to hide behind as they attack the assailats that walk through the forest, or trick the assailants to try to mimic that (trying to hide behind the trees) that will autofail since the illusory trees won't be providing the same cover.

Forest? Don't be afraid to dream bigger, darling. They could make it look like the Plane of Fire if they wanted.
