Thanks Adam!

This marathon was something pretty special. Having a lifelong friend back at the table after two decades, it was a reminder that this game is so much more than a game. That's my guy Andy standing in the second pic.

Keep the adventures coming!

Disa Firecask, cleric of Folgrit
City of Highhelm

Life had become interesting, Disa (Mama Disa to most) thought. I thought I was content. After my beloved husband passed, I was happy to live out the rest of my days surrounded by my family and embarking on a new career as a cleric of Folgrit. That was plenty to fill my days. But since I had gotten the request by clan leader Perhill to join the others on a goodwill tour, my life had certainly become exciting.
I had spent time on all of the levels of HIghhelm and tried some new things. I even attempted forge work. Well I tried, though I admit a dwarf my age was out of her league. But I got to teach a new generation the language skills which had been so valuable in my own work for the clan.
Now we were venturing into the Darklands to find and return the clan dagger of King Taargick. I was concerned about my abilities but I certainly wasn’t letting my babies go on without me. Who else could keep them intact? Folgrit, bless us all!

Any chance you can post your PC's basic stats (aka names, genders, ancestries, and classes)?

Sure! In this video I described some of the family tree, and you can see a sketch of the generations. I'll put the rest below.

We knew going into this project that we would have a cameo by a member of the past at each marathon, which meant this project would have the largest overall roster of anything we've done before. This also meant that many members would be playing alongside other members they had never met, only heard of. With this in mind, we decided to bind the characters together by making the group one big strong-blooded dwarven family! We used players' out-of-game ages in Order of the Amber Die to create the generations within our family (PF 1e age categories).

It's also important to note that we have what we call the "core four" on every roster you've seen over the years. This core of players remains the same at each marathon regardless, which means to be in the core four you must be able to commit to every marathon in a given project -- it's major! A typical marathon involves these four players and up to three additional players at the table (maximum of seven). Local members might even rotate on separate days within a marathon, so for example we had eight different dwarves see action in marathon one, made easier because the clan lived in Highhelm and the entire marathon took place there. I'll note the core characters with an asterisk.

Marathon 1 featured:

*Disa Firecask
Cleric of Folgrit
Generation: Venerable
(she/her, Karee)

*Renck Firecask
Bard
Generation: Venerable
(he/him, Brandon)

Dungruain Firecask
Cleric of Trudd
Generation: Venerable
(he/him, Doug)

Fissure Firecask
Alchemist/Toxicologist
Generation: Old
(he/him, Jody)

Drothgyr Firecask
Bard
Generation: Old
(he/him, Daniel)

Zuls Firecask
Rogue
Generation: Old
(he/him, Andy)

*Salthrun Firecask
Champion of Dranngvit
Generation: Middle age
(she/her, Theodora)

*Thorgreigir Firecask
Barbarian
Generation: Middle age
(he/him, Erick)

In the comments section of the last blog, Theodora also talked about some of the roles each character has in the clan. Hope this helps, and portraits are here!

Salthrun here! Although I much prefer to be called Aunt (strong emphasis on the “t”) Sally. The adventuring throughout Highhelm has proven to be a very lucrative journey for Clan Firecask. Our very own Battle Axe brew has been selling like mithral, so I've been diligently keeping a tight grip on the leger and making sure not a drop goes to waste! Lost product comes directly out of these dwarves’ checks and the family knows that I won’t dishonor my great Dranggvit and give anyone a pass. A debt is a debt and profit is power.

Yet while the brains keep this operation going, what kind of champion would I be without the brawn? It was a privilege to try out for the Hodags basilisk team with my brother, Thorgreigir. He proved to be scrappy enough, and brought both honor and demand for beer to our clan! Winning is coin in my book, and he pleasantly surprised me that day. I just complimented my brother.

So now we are off to find the Sky King’s stolen dagger and I’m not too keen on being away from adding up our sales or not watching for the perfect pours from our kegs. But I must go, since some of our most venerable relatives forget that they aren’t beardless youth anymore and might need a lift out of a sticky situation as we venture on. Grudgingly here to assist! I’m sure there are a few creatures that would pay a fine price for good beer in the Darklands past the city!

Interesting. A bit curious why Jody went with a Alchemist/Toxicologist but I'm guessing that only helps with the brewing of beers and ales, heh. What alignment is Theodora's Champion of Dranngvit if I might ask?

Hi Berselius! As one of the registered nurses in this group I'll say that alcohol is a toxin, with concocted beverages sitting right alongside crafted poison, so when Jody brought up the toxicologist idea we went with it. It's another reason why we're all strong-blooded dwarves! Our party feat is Diehard, since many members of Clan Firecask are used to being unconscious from the effects of said poison...

Salthrun doesn't have an alignment, we've been converting to Remaster along the way with this AP. She's money-obsessed, but doesn't usually harm others unless they harm her family. That's Salthrun in the picture backing up her brother as we entered the fungi-filled tavern. We're preparing for our next marathon in a few days, so I'm transforming into Aunt Sally right now!

That's a beautiful table, it looks so fun. I really hope to run this AP one day.

We are lucky to be able to play in such a gorgeous space.

We’ve only just turned 3rd level but it’s been amazing. I’m looking to seeing what is next. It would be a great one to run, I’m sure.

Isn't "website feedback" subforum for issues with the website? Other Amber Die blogs in the past were elsewhere on your website.

Oh, I see what you mean now! Totally didn't catch that, and this will be helped in our new forums when you can leave a note when you flag things. I'll let the Tech Team know!

Ah, gotcha. I keep forgetting that alignment really isn't a thing anymore. I do gotta ask though, has the Order of the Amber Die ever used the alignment system from Palladium/Rifts Earth in any games they've done?

I've often found that system works a helluva lot better than the alignment system developed by D&D.

Was there any discussion of making use of the Inventor/Gunslinger classes for PC's? I've always loved the idea of a Dwarf making advantageous use of a steam-powered crank mini-gun. ;)

I remember Heroes Unlimited from WAY back, but not the alignment system unfortunately.

As for the classes in Sky Scions, inventor was definitely in the discussion and I wouldn't rule out seeing one before this project is over. Gunslinger, on the other hand, only came up once and the vote was unanimous. After two years with our all-gunslinger party in the last project, we did not want to see another one in this project -- not even one. We had our fun with the mini-gun/Barricade Buster during The Abomination Arsenal though!
