Potion patch

Rules Discussion

If I am wielding a sword and board, can I use a potion patch to drink a potion of Quickness for example, or am I out of hands? Because I am gripping my sword and holding a shield, I don't know how I would have a hand available to drink the potion without dropping my sword to consume the drink?

You can.

...isn't that the point of the item? That's the only thing it does.

Lmao your correct I didn't read it correctly. Thanks!

Just wanted to point out that the patch consumes a potion when you set it up.

so you need to commit a potion that you might want to use that day.

basically it costs 1 potion/day if you want it to always be available

One potion AND one patch, since the latter's magic goes away at your next daily preparations.

It's definitely a "plan ahead" investment.

I have a question about potion patches. Do they work like- buy one, fill it, use it, @next day prep rinse and repeat. Or is it- buy it, fill it, use it, POOF?

Not a terrible sale...

Yes, if you use the potion patch in any way it gets used up. You can't pre-fill them and store them up.

That part I understand what I am unclear on is in this context does used up mean I need to go buy another patch. or that I still have the patch but now I need to refill it. Also thank you for your help

The Potion Patch itself is a consumable (in addition to the potion that you add to it). So once you use it during your daily preparations to add a potion to it and stick it on you, then it is consumed (though not inert yet). You can activate it to apply the potion effect as described in the Potion Patch's activation entry.

But if you don't activate it, it is still consumed and will become inert at your next daily preparations (or if you apply a second Potion Patch to yourself). So you would need to get a new Potion Patch item for the next day in addition to another potion.

"The patch's magic is negated after it's used, the next time you make your daily preparations, or when another potion patch is affixed to you, whichever comes first."
The patch loses its magic at your next daily preparation, not only the potion inside. So reliable for dungeons, iffy for wilderness, a long shot while traveling normal routes.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The best use is for quickness pots, they’re general enough you know you’ll probably get use out of it that day, and they’re the best potion level 9 or under (best potion overall tbh), meaning they work with the cheap potion patches.

Understood. Thanks all!
