DM needed for King Maker.

Recruitment

After a very long time, we had to say goodbye to an incredible DM who started this game. He had his own spin on the Kingmaker AP and it was enjoyable.
We had a good amount of the original players for most of that time. Life has its way of messing PBP games up.

With this being said I was hoping to continue this game and move forward. Unfortunately, I am the only player that will be continuing with this game. The other original player decided to take their leave of the game, and the other two newer players also decided to move along.

So....
I am looking for a new DM to take over the game.
My character is the ruler and a level 7 Cavalier.
We would also need some new players. I am thinking at least 3 to 5
The new DM would have say over this.

Here is a link to the game.
Saga of a New Land.

I'm down for applying as a player if a GM shows up. Kingmaker is one of those special unicorns that I've GMed for plenty of people in my area, but have never actually had the pleasure of playing through myself.

I too would apply as a player.

But for the OPs sake I do hope he gets a GM

Always been intrigued about kingmaker... never played it, nor ran it.

Hmmmmmmm....

Id need to find a copy of the game...

But, i could be persuaded....

I too would be interested in playing in KM, but atm, I am not able to run it.

I made an offer to Rizzen. So here's to hoping :)

Liberty's Edge

The original GM made it almost six years. That's pretty good!

Former player here... the GM was great and kept on chugging along, but RL hit him and what are you gonna do? I Thank him for a lot of good times.

As for myself, I'm stepping Bydar down, probably to build a small shrine somewhere nearby and tend to his flock while others adventure. Good news this means the high priest position is open to any players that join on after you find a new game master ;)

Good luck!

Sorry folks. Cannot do it

Kingmaker I believe requires a LOT of investment as a DM, t'would be tough to find a new DM for sure.

I'll make a suggestion though, as your PC is the current Ruler, maybe DMPC him and take over the game as DM? After several years, you probably have a better handle on the material than any GM walking in now,, especially if the previous DM made some modifications. If you got Crisischild, Seth86, and MonkeyGod as PCs that's a set of people here on the boards that have been around for a while and post consistently. I'm not familiar with Pasha, but he expressed interest in playing so that's 4 PC's right there. Even if you didn't have them, Kingmaker is popular so you would have a ton of interest in Recruitment.

Either way, good luck! Always sucks to see long running games end here on the boards, even if you didn't play in or run them :-(

While I have to agree with Storyteller Shadow, I unfortunately cannot commit to such an endeavor.
One of the main reasons I got into PBP is the flexability of posting. I have way too many jobs, projects and famliy/personal issues to deal with that I would be unable to meet the demands of being a DM...even to a PBP game.

Rizzenmagnus...I thank you for your interst.

So I continue to look for a dm.

Understood, RL comes first. Sadly I had to drop numerous games as a DM and PV on the boards several years ago when things changed in my life. Just the way it goes sometimes, much as we love gaming the older you get, the less time you have to dedicate towards it.

My other suggestion would be to run through the Kingmaker threads in PbP here on Paizo and see if a Kingmaker game died that maybe was more player apathy then DM apathy and PM said DM to see if they'd like to give it another shot!

Good luck!

I do appreciate your vote of confidence in me Shadow

I love Kingmaker, I've run it a few times and have done related but separate adventures in a persistent West Marches style game several times. Hell, I'm currently doing Tyranny of Dragons kitbashed into Brevoy/Iobaria in my KM world. I'd be willing to DM if we can get a full party.

So for anybody who said they're interested in playing, let's see some PC pitches. We've already got a Baron Cavalier; if the other PCs didn't actively leave the game or die I'd say they stay in their current kingdom roles and new PCs get recruited as the old ones 'retire to focus on the kingdom'. You can all cooperatively run the kingdom building turns, new players just don't need to worry about making a background that establishes you as a great candidate for Grand Diplomat or Magister or whatever.

Anyway, you've got a DM if we can recruit a party.

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't see that Seth86 already volunteered. Happy you found a DM. I'd love to play if you're trying to fill out a party.

I believe that Seth offered to play not run, but I may be mistaken.

I may be interested in picking up and existing character from someone leaving the group, I'll take a look. This is an AP I only ever briefly touched on as a PC.

Edit: I'd run Cenna Proviso, the Sorcerer/Monk combo is pretty interesting.

No. Not run. Sorry :P

My schedule and family things make it tough

If you are still willing to run this...
thank you very much karlprosek.

Let me know if you have any questions about my character or the background.
and
if you have desires to change character creation rules.

Thank you again.

I'm definitely also still interested in playing, so if we've got ourselves a GM, *awesome!*

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I usually do 25 point buy, background skills, and the Elephant in the Room feat tax skill streamlining but since we've got 2 already existing PCs lets just stick with whatever the creation rules were for the original game. So let's see what that was:

Material Allowed: Paizo only. No 3rd party material.
Races: All Core and Featured Races allowed
Classes: All Paizo classes will be considered
Alignment: Good characters are preferred. Neutral characters will be considered, but Evil character are a No-No
Feats: All Core Books
Traits: Choose 2 traits.
Ability Scores: 20 point buy, no ability beyond 18 none below 9 before racial modifiers. (Don't forget to add the ability increase for level 4).
Starting Wealth: 6,000gp (standard for level 4) 23,500 (standard for level 7) - for CDE and Cenna, look at your sheets and see if you're at standard WBL. If you're not, go ahead and buy items up to 23.5k; if you're over, leave your gear as-is.

It does look like they were using background skills, so use those too.

I'll need to look over the gameplay to see where we are in the story but at level 7 we should be at the end of mod 2 or the beginning of mod 3.

Approved Party:
Christian D'Elagante: Cavalier (Jovich)
Cenna Proviso: Sorcerer/Monk (Shadow)

Excellent!

I'll create the new Avatar and read through her posts this weekend so I can get up to speed with what happened so far.

Not only cool but karlprosek always runs interesting stuff so I'm sure whatever spin he puts on Kingmaker will be awesome.

Liberty's Edge

I wasn't really planning on trying to get into this game, buuuuuuut a game starting above level 3 is rare, and I have a few presige class builds that would certainly benefit from the higher level. Sentinel, Holy Vindicator, Rage Prophet to name a few... hmmm....

I might put forth a ranger with levels in Hinterlander as hopefully there's a settlement of important with 2,000 or less inhabitants.

If this is going to turn into a full fledged recruitment, I'd like to throw Aelbourne's hat into the ring.

Liberty's Edge

Alright, I've decided to put together a Dervish Dancing cleric/Holy Vindicator of Desna, Sarenrae, and Shelyn to fill the divine caster/high priest(ess) slot and help out on the front line. Her primary motivation: build a church to the Radiant Prism! What better place for a new church to a new pantheon than a new town?

@Monkeygod: hinterlander is one of the cooler PrCs imo.

We heckin love the Radiant Prism!

Also, I'd like to take the role of the Marshal if that's available, as that seems to really fit for the Hinterlander.

Monkeygod wrote:

I think the majority of my female PCs end up following one of those three so I was pretty happy when they officially became their own little pantheon =)

Still interested. I'll get a build link in asap

I will never tell anyone how to play their characters or how they should roleplay.

The character that I created here is based on a lot of RL situations and I have enjoyed playing him immensely. Please feel free to read up on the background and the game posts to get a feel of how things were running previously.

Here's what I have to my submission so far: Elaina Newberry - Scintillating Ray of the Radiant Prism! I'd like to add more to her backstory, but I don't know if I'll have time for a few days and I don't want Lord D'Elagante waiting on me to get something in. Should be enough to at least decide how much you like her.

I decided not to do Holy Vindicator, it was a bit too, I dunno, aggressive for sweet Elaina. I went with Dawnflower Anchorite instead, which is a really cool PrC. With the Prestigious Spellcaster feat she keeps full spellcasting progression, has full Channel Energy progression, and at level 9 will have full Domain Progression. Anyways, she's a battle cleric that can help in melee and heal up after the battle with high AC with Magic Vestment and good damage with Divine Favor. I took Restoration and Heroism domains, which grant primarily free Empowered metamagic on Cure spells and swift action group-wide Heroism, but Domains and spells and all that are negotiable.

The Story so Far:

===========Elaina Newberry============
Age: 24 Height: 5'2" Weight: 105# Hair: Red-Orange Eyes: Aqua Skin: Fair and freckled Build: Athletic
Elaina in her priestess garb

============A Polychromatic Beacon, Arriving Late, as Usual============

Elaina Newberry was not born to royalty or to great wealth, but to a simple family of farmers in the rolling hills north of Almas, Andoran. Her parents were deeply devout to Sarenrae and, despite a lack of wealth, they instilled in their daughter a sense of compassion and generosity. From a young age, Elaina showed and unusually strong connection to the divine, exhibiting small miracles - healing small animals, predicting the weather, chasing away colds and, perhaps most importantly, inspiring joy wherever she went. Elaina loved her family and community, but she never felt a simple farmer's life was meant for her. It never felt right. She longed to spread Sarenrae's light, bring hope to the downtrodden, and challenge that darkness that seeks to chase the light away.

This led her to the grand Temple of the Shining Star in Absalom. There, she dedicated herself to the faith, proving herself a diligent (well, maybe not so much diligent, but she meant well!) and devoted (that is true) acolyte. Her natural charisma and unwavering faith made her a favorite among the clergy. It was during this time that she began to see a deeper connection between the teachings of Sarenrae, Desna, and Shelyn. She saw them not as separate entities, but as facets of a single, radiant truth – a prism of divine light offering different paths to enlightenment and joy. This concept became the foundation for her vision of the Radiant Prism, a new pantheon devoted to the trio of divine lovers.

Elaina's unconventional interpretations of doctrine, while appreciated by some, particularly other followers of the fledgling pantheon, stirred up some controversy within the established clergy. She often emphasized the commonalities between Desna, Sarenrae, and Shelyn, whose churches had already long been associated with each other, leading to occasional debates over how appropriate it is for a cleric to venerate multiple deities equally. While her elders saw her zeal, some saw it as potentially heretical, thinking she was too young, delving too deeply and quickly into waters she does not fully understand. She never let the push back she got get her too down.

Then the opportunity arrived. Charis! Tales reached the temple of the fledgling kingdom in the Stolen Lands, carving its own path against the darkness, and a need for a High Priest(ess) - as the current one is retiring - to lead its spiritual development. Elaina saw this as a sign – a chance to put her vision into practice, to build a temple to the Radiant Prism, and to create a community where the virtues of all three goddesses could flourish.

Elaina, after much prayer and deliberation (well, not really) and perhaps a small(ish) push from certain allies within the temple who saw her departure as a way to quell internal tensions, was "chosen" to journey to Charis. The head priests and priestesses decided it would be best to see her on her way, providing her with a small chest of scrolls, clerical supplies, and a (very) valuable set of three books, each an intricately illustrated tomb, one each related to Desna, Sarenrae, and Shelyn. They reasoned that if she could successfully establish herself and the Radiant Prism, all would be forgiven. If she failed, well, Charis would still need a priestess in general, there were few healers that could rival her, and as far as chasing back the darkness, few shone as bright or were as fierce with a blade as she, despite her appearance as a shortish (in stature and temperment) young woman who does not look have seen many days on the battlefield.

Her journey to Charis was... slow. She stopped often to loudly (some might say aggressively) proselytized to any who would listen (and to many who would not) about the Radiant Prism. Some might say that her generosity with healing spells was the only thing that kept her from being chased from at least one town, but Elaina has no ears to hear such negativity. She knows she faces challenges – the establishment of a new faith in an already diverse land that may not see the immediate use of goddeses of love and art and forgivness, but Elaina is undeterred. She believes in the power of compassion, the beauty of art, and the unwavering light of hope. And she's ready to bring that light to Chaise (and maybe a better name).

She has only recently arrived in the Stolen Lands, hearing of the fledgling kingdom's need for a new high priest(ess) and seeing it as a perfect opportunity to spread the word of the Radiant Prism. Now where is that fancy lord supposed to be?

So I have a question for our GM, depending on answer will determine her story and why she's where she is

Would you allow the Rogue Archetype: Sniper to confer it's abilities to firearms?

Yes: she will be here to hunt a target and probably then join that way

No: I may go gun smuggler and she's here on the run and then orofide her services and knowledge to help bolster the kingdom's forces with more dangerous weapons than just plain bows and arrows

Nice to see you again, Shadow.

Sure, why not. For everybody, I'm pretty easygoing as far as rules go. I want the PCs to do cool stuff and be Big Damn Heroes. I'll generally let you do what you want as long as it's not Pun-Pun or something totally ridiculous.

Approved party:
Christian D'Elagante: Cavalier (Jovich)
Cenna Proviso: Sorcerer/Monk (Shadow)

Submissions:
Aelbourne Callandriil: Half-elf Fighter/Rogue (AJM4885), Dex melee DPR, bandit-killing Restov city guard
Aldrea Fangor: Human Gunslinger (Seth86), ranged DPR, bounty hunter
Elaina Newberry: Human Cleric-Dawnflower Anchorite (Crisischild), support/Dex melee DPR, Radiant Prism missionary

TBH I'm leaning toward just accepting these 3, leave a spot for Monkeygod, and calling it a day. You've got your face, your trapspringer, a good amount of DPR, and decent support/healing. The only thing you're weak on is arcane knowledge but you can't have everything.

Monkeygod wrote:

It's probably best if new PCs don't come in planning to be kingdom leaders. I haven't read through all the old posts to see what kind of relationships the NPCs have but just for ease of transition it seems best to leave the current kingdom roles as they are and retiring old PCs into NPCs.

Although... looking at the kingdom tracker Narthropple is a unique choice for Marshal. I don't think I've seen that one before. I'll be interested to read back and see how the group came up with that.

Story will change slightly to get her here.
But I'm thinking she's originally from Alkenstar. And then as she grew up she traveled to Nidal.

Everybody here (Seth86, AJM4885, Crisischild, Monkeygod) please move over to the Discussion thread.

For anybody who comes across this thread after March 24, this recruitment is closed.
