Fast Movement and Furious Footfalls

Rules Discussion

Both the feat and the class ability grant you a +10 status bonus to movement. According to the rules bonuses of like kind do not stack. So what is the point of taking the feat? Is there something I am missing?

3 people marked this as a favorite.

There is no point in taking both.

What you are missing is that Furious Footfalls is a replacement for Fast Movement.

The CRB (legacy) Barbarian didn't have Furious Footfalls. The Fast Movement feat was available for players who wanted that ability.

The Remaster version of the Barbarian in Player Core 2 has Furious Footfalls as a class feature at level 3, but doesn't reprint the Fast Movement feat. This is an upgrade. No feat cost, and you get it a level earlier.

But you don't want both - they wouldn't stack.

Other examples of this are Dangerous Sorcery and Brawling Focus! Some feats got consolidated, too — Accurate Flurry is completely useless now that Impossible Flurry had its effect added, for one.

Note how Fast Movement is a feat from the CRB, but Furious Footfalls is a class feature added in the Remaster.

Also if you are allowing CRB only feats still at your table, it would allow a multiclass Barbarian to take the feat.

Which would be a legit reason to still allow it IMO, but a regular barbarian would have no need.
