Heavy rondache and free hand

Advice

It is not specified in the text, but since it is compared in size to a buckler, can I assume that the heavy rondache also leaves the hand free?

Thanks!

I see no reason to assume it would be. How an object is attached to you is a factor; a shield can be the size of a large coin but if the grip for it is a handle and not a wrist strap you still need a hand to hold it.

Buckler has specific text in the description:

However, notably, it does not have the Free-Hand trait.

By contrast, the Heavy Rondache is completely devoid of any such language. Since it also does not have the Free-Hand trait, and it is lacking specific language like the Buckler, it does not leave the hand free.

But if you archetype into Bastion, you can take the feat Nible Shield Hand.

Oki! Thanks a lot!
