Legchair Mount, why large?

Rules Discussion

The chair you are sitting in right now while reading this is _not_ LARGE size. If wizards created a magical creature chair to carry themselves around in, it would not be 4x their size (in squares). I get that the answer is "that's just how mounts work," but why??

So I suppose a more productive question is: Is there a way to have a Medium sized Legchair act as a mount for a Medium sized character?

Well, the chair I am sitting in also isn't carrying me into battle under its own power, so that doesn't feel like an apples-to-apples comparison. The only object I own that would be capable of doing that would be my car, and it is definitely at least size large.

The Legchair also allows either medium or large size. But size large is needed for carrying a medium size character. And yes, that is purely for game mechanics reasons.

No, you can't have a medium size mount carry a medium size character. Not without houserules.

If that doesn't work for your narrative that you are trying to tell, then work with the GM about it. But I am not seeing anything wrong with having a legchair still need to be size large in order to carry a medium size creature.

IMO, the "game mechanics reasons" are mostly about navigating tight spaces. You can't "turn sideways" to slip through narrow openings or otherwise move though many forms of difficult terrain riding in a chair as you could without it.

It may be best to compare it tomodern mobility scooters. Those I would say push over the line toLarge, especially ones that need the space to manoeuvre. You don’t have to fill all of your space to need it, as most gnomes are not five feet wide.
