Attempting to Convert an Adventurer's League (D&D) Characters to PFS

Vigilant Seal

I am attempting to recreate my group's team that we have beeen attached into pathfinder, but unfortunately hit a snag.

I was able to get my Human Half-Orc Ancestral Guardian Barbarian (Spirit Instinct Dromaar), Human Tiefling Pact of the Devil Warlock (Hellspawn Faith's Flamekeeper Witch), and Aasimar War Cleric (Angelkin devoted to Zon-Kuthon) set up, but missing one; a Dragonborn Oath of Conquest Paladin.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any dragonborn in this game. What would be the best alternative for the last character?

This is my brother's character, and I tried to pitch using a Cleric as a War Priest, but the character in question is an anti-theist, with his powers coming from the Oath that he has sworn to.

Any suggestions?

I think at this point it really depends on what elements of his former character your brother really cared about and wants to bring over. Tyrant or Paladin Champion probably map the best but if he's anti-theist that won't work either.

If its the striking fear into enemies, any Intimidation focused character would do. I'd also look at archetypes. A Fighter, Thaumaturge, or Braggart Swashbuckler chassis with certain archetypes like Bastion, Blessed One, Hellknight, Marshall, or Mauler might capture enough of what he enjoyed about Conquest Paladin.

I think I focusd too much on what class was the closest to the D&D Paladin, yourr suggestion to capture the "feel" of the Character really opens up a lot!

It's not a 1:1 but hopefully I can sell him on this.

The Dragonborn on stings, but it is what it is. Thanks!

For the dragonborn part, I haven't used Roll for Combat's Battlezoo stuff myself, but my understanding is that they have a dragon scion ancestry and they're a well-regarded 3rd party PF2 company with former PF2 devs. Assuming you're not jumping into something like Pathfinder Society or don't want to tangle with 3 Party stuff just yet, that could be a potential option.

I have looked into that one, seems awesome! We would definitely try this one out in a oneshot.

Is there any possibility this will be added as part of an official release?

Luis Loza also has some stuff on Pathfinder Infinite, one of them is "Lost Omen Ancestries: Dragonkin" which are pretty close to D&D's Dragonborn.

Though this is also NOT an "official" product. Is there any reason your worried about it being official?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

There is a 0% chance that Battlezoo, or any other Pathfinder Infinite/3rd party published material will be folded into the 1st party Paizo materials or allowed in officially sanctioned PFS games.

I've seen that as well! I've already started crafting a character for him.

It's not exactly a need to have it official, but more just bringing the character to life in Pathfinder.

D&D 5e is the system I started with, but I find Pathfinder's system a lot more interesting and engaging.

All our Characters were AL (Adventurer's League) legal and allowed me and my friends to play AL games together. Being able to run on "official" campaigns gave this feeling of progression that wasn't really there with our homebrew stuff.

I'd like to have that again with Pathfinder, but not being able to play a "dragonborn" is what is holding my brother back from playing, but I'm already accepting the fact this will not be the case.

I think it just stings a bit because I am able to build everyone else in the party except for one.

That's a shame. Does Pathfinder have anything like Unearthed Arcana or anything Playtest related that they would release?

If you're not actually participating in... whatever Society gives players that play in it, then playing by "official" rules is just hindering your game!

I don't understand how your homebrew games don't give you the feeling of progression because Society isn't really any different from "regular" play!

I feel like there are too many people who have this idea that if they aren't playing AL, PFS, or whatever then they're not playing right! I have no idea where this idea comes from or why this idea seems to exist! Play how you want with the things you want. As long as everyone is having a good time you're doing it right!

Oh yeah, I understand that this entire thread is all essentially just hinges on playing officially, which is a pretty big hindrance.

I do agree, yes it is hindering and we do also have our own homebrew characters that we all love and enjoy.

I have convinced my brother to go with your suggestions, and currently we are going through the Beginner Box. I have a feeling we'll be enjoying this campaign regardless.

Thanks again!
