Remaster Pathfinder Training - Midtraining Question

My Organized Play groups are slowly moving over to Remaster with a lot of character conversions taking place. Now, Pathfinder Training being removed was actually pretty freeing for many players, but we did run into a small problem.

Before the Remaster guidelines were covered, I had a player who was Retraining his character from a Generalist to a Pathfinder Field Comission Agent, but wasn't able to finish it in one scenario. He's still 6 days out from finishing the training, but now we're confused as to if it's still possible to do so as he'd like to have the extra days going forward.

I know it's quite the edge case with someone Retraining their Pathfinder Training and then getting "stuck" midway through. Is there any advice for what we can do?

For context. I have a level 3 Investigator. I am 8/14 days to retraining toward Field Commissioner.

Being a Legacy character, does being half way to retraining mean I "have" it and can finish, gaining the benifit?

I don't know if you will get an official answer from campaign leadership, but personally I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. It was already in motion, not intended as some sort of exploit, and breaks nothing to finish what you started.

I didn’t think it was permitted to retrain into field commissioned? I don’t have a copy of the old guide to check though.

Here’s the guide from July 2023.
“Note that while Field Commission can only be freely chosen at character creation, the other four options can be chosen at any point in the Pathfinder's career, although once chosen they cannot be changed without Retraining.”

So unfortunately the initial retraining was not legal in the first place.

There was debate on what that sentence actually means.

It means: "You can freely choose field commission at character creation. The other four options can be selected AFTER character creation as well, [if you didn't know this was an option/didn't make up your mind about it when creating the character] but field commission can not be chosen afterwards. They can ALL be retrained into, including field commissioned."

It could have also meant what you interpreted: "Field training can ONLY be chosen at character creation, while the other 4 can be chosen at any point AND they can be retrained into, at later point."

I recall Jared Thaler, the lead responsible for the Guide, saying that the intent is the first one: You can retrain into any school (including the field commission), but if you haven't chosen a school by level 2+, you can choose any of the four available school (excluding the field commissioned) for free. Can't find the quote at the moment, though.

As to whether OP can continue the retraining that they already started? No idea. I think they probably should be able to, but honestly, we won't know for sure unless Alex answers this. Probably best to ask in the remaster clarification thread.
