In Plain Sight

Rules Discussion

Hello, I have a question about In Plain Sight from Alter Ego dedication.

Is it possible to use In Plain Sight with other feats as Swift Sneak, Legendary Sneak, Shadow Mark, Eclipsed Vitality ?

With the start of encounter, is it possible to Avoided Notice ? Use eerie environ feats ?

Thanks for your future answer.

Swift Sneak isn't an exploration mode feat, so it wouldn't apply.

Legendary Sneak is redundant with In Plain Sight. They are both trying to do the same thing - let you use Avoid Notice without actually needing cover or to even be hidden from enemies. If you had both, you could use both at the same time, I guess. If a particular enemy would bypass one of them, then the other could still apply.

Eclipsed Vitality is similar. With In Plain Sight you aren't really trying to hide, so if someone is keeping watch, they will see you - they just won't consider you to be a threat. It doesn't matter if they are using vision or lifesense to see you. Again you could use both at the same time if you have both, but I struggle to think up a scenario where it would be useful.

Shadow Mark could be argued that it doesn't work because it specifies having to use a Stealth check to Avoid Notice. But personally I feel that it should work. You should be allowed to follow someone while 'hiding' as a general character that is supposed to be in the area. But it depends on the particular circumstances.

For starting a combat Hidden because of Avoid Notice during exploration mode, I would probably allow that to work. Combat is breaking out in an area that has other noncombatant characters. The enemies considered you to be one of the noncombatants to begin with. So they technically saw you there, but didn't notice that you were going to attack them.

I wouldn't allow In Plain Sight to work with Eerie Environs. Eerie Environs narratively expects you to actually be hidden from view rather than just seen but not considered important. So this is a bit of an opposite case from Shadow Mark - I am not finding a good game rule reason why it wouldn't work, but it shouldn't work from a narrative standpoint.
