Lores & Ancestries

Pathfinder Second Edition General Discussion

Do you guys think all Ancestries should have access to a Lore Ancestry Feat?

I don't know if I understood this right. But all ancestries already have access to their own lores.

But if you are proposing that all ancestries should get their Lore automatically honestly I don't like. Not all characters must have general knowledge about their own ancestry history, society and so on. In fact the current situation is already the ideal, if think that its good for your character to get knowledge about their own ancestry you can get it via ancestry feat or selecting it skill as a "normal" skill.

I guess this is more about the very few ancestries and heritages that don't have a specific feat to get custom lore + 2 skills
Which I think don't have that Option for a reason, so I am okay with the current state of things

Poppet is oen for example.

I mean, its not like poppets have a huge civilization and centuries of culture.

Good point, lets list the ancestries and versatile heritages without lore feats:

Ancestries

  • Humans
  • Fleshwarps
  • Gnomes
  • Poppets
  • Skeletons*
  • Sprites

    Versatile Heritages

  • Beastkins
  • Ganzis

I imagine that humans don't have lore feats due their large numbers and large cultural diversity.
Fleshwarps because they aren't a real specie and usually don't born or had some kind of society.
Gnomes and Sprites are strange. I could imagine then having some kind of fey or first world lore but no they doesn't have any kind of lore even having in many places they having some kind of society (or something close).
Poppets as well pointed by exequiel759 doesn't have their own civilization nor culture usually they are independent small miracles/experiments results.
*Skeletons was living one day and they may get Past Life feat to take some other ancestry lore instead.
Beastkins normally have their main ancestry lore only once that most beastkins usually doesn't form some kind of society or common culture.
Ganzis makes sense with their chaotic nature. While most other nephilim have their lores linked to the outer sphere heritage the Ganzis are linked to chaos and makes sense that their chaotic nature doesn't form their own stable culture and society.

In practice the only ancestries thats don't really have a Lore feat without a good reason are Gnomes and Sprites. Maybe something due their fay nature?

Addition to YuriP's (afaik correct) deliberations: For Ganzis a feat exists that is mechanically equivalent to the typical "[Ancestry] Lore" feats whilst at the same time not following their typical "convention": Creative Prodigy.

Mechanically equivalent - because it's a lvl 1 ancestry feat that gives two (non-lore) skill trainings plus a lore skill.
(Side-Note: The latter not being implemented by a free "Additional Lore" skill feat is a remaster compatibility errata candidate for me. Compare https://paizo.com/threads/rzs43f59&page=7?Official-Lost-Omens-clarifica tion-errata-and#346)

Not following typical convention - because the lore skill included is Art Lore not a Ganzi Lore, and the feat name differs from the implicit "[Ancestry] Lore" naming convention likewise.

In all honestly, I'm surprised Natural Skill doesn't give you trained proficiency rank in two skills of your choice and one Lore of your choice. You can technically chose a Lore with those two trained skills already, but...if I don't see many characters taking this feat to begin with (specially taking into account the other 1st level feats it competes against) I much less see someone taking it to become trained in a Lore.
