Would a Rougaru just be a beastkin if I tried to make one in 2cd ed?

Pathfinder Second Edition General Discussion

Seems like it would, only problem is Rougaru is it's own race. They aren't a demihuman or whatever with shapeshifter tacked on?

Also, I feel like Gnoll gets way better stuff for a bestial/canine type character?

Liberty's Edge

Nah, it'd be some type of werecreature, more or less, and there will (supposedly) be ample support for that once Howl of the Wild drops.

Rougarou as they were in 1e were a shapeshifting ancestry kind of like kitsune, so same as kitsune have their own complete ancestry in 2e they probably should too... but in the meantime you could do worse than make a beastkin

I asked Luis a while back and he said they still exist, we just haven't seen 'em yet.

They aren't werecreatures though?

How do I get to talk to Luis and James?

Pretty sure that HotW has werecreature available as a player option, actually.

Luis didn't mention it?

Yes, there is a werewolf archetype coming in HotW, operating much like the undead archetypes. It was mentioned in... I was going to say a blog post but it was actually a teaser? There was a thread about it with links a little while back.

ED: Found it
this thread includes the link and discussion while this is the preview direct link itself

Rougaru aren't werewolves. It's specifically mentioned they hate the former and also hate being mistaken for one.

What exactly are you trying to ask about?

If you are looking for the exact, PF2 version of a Rougaru ancestry, then it does not exist and as far as we know, won't soon.

If you are looking for ways to play one until such a conversion is put into the system, then Beastkin or Werecreatures will suit. Otherwise, I expect Rougaru to come along whenever they do a Lost Omens Arcadia supplement.

You may be a little confused. I said rougarou weren't werecreaturs in my previous post. In this case the question was whether there was a werewolf archetype in HotW which I confirmed. It was a bit of an off topic back and forth but I figured it was worth addressing.

What kind of names do Rougaru have btw? I know the name comes from French Luisiana stuff BUT Rougaru aren't humans who turn into wolves. They are wolves who turn into wolf people or vice versa? Like they can't turn into a human or demi-human right? So I don't think they'd have like some creole type "human" name right?

I don't think we've ever seen their homeland or culture in any meaningful way.

One of many reasons to hope for a proper trip to Arcadia - where I hope they'd keep some of their Creole inspiration, personally!

you could go the silly route and just call Shoonies Rougaru.
