Polearm trip

Rules Discussion

Sorry for the noob question here guys but can you attempt a trip with athletics while wieidlng a two handed polearm that doesnt have the Trip tag. And if so how does it work.

Liberty's Edge

You can but it would involve a "free action" to release your grip on the Weapon with at least one hand so you have the free hand available to perform the Trip. After doing that you'd end up paying another Action to regrip the weapon in order to use it again.

Only with the Knockdown feat or if you release to have a hand free

Staff acrobat allows this with the specified weapons.

Yeah, the weapon needs to have the trait or you run into action economy issue or you need a feat that allows you to do it.

Chances are you're already playing a martial character, in which case hopefully you're a fighter and you already have Knockdown as an available feat choice.

If not you can multiclass into mauler, to pickup knockdown and improved knockdown. But knockdown with improved knockdown is VERY good. It is really worth taking if you are a fighter, and can be worth it even if you need to spend the feat to multiclass but would gain nothing of use from mauler.

Knockdown with Improved Knockdown is incredibly good. In a game I was running, a fighter had it and basically stopped using it because the player felt it was broken. He'd only use it when he thought that a wipe might happen if he didn't.
