Deafend vs lack of verbal spell components or auditory tags in the remaster

With the changes to the tags on spells in the remaster, are the spells now immune to the DC 5 flat check?

They haven't published full remaster rules as far as I'm aware, so it's bit premature to assume it's gone.

Tags are getting rework, but in many cases names are just changing. I do recall reading spell component tags were go away, so it's possible that they might drop this edge case condition with deafened but it's also possible they might add something else in.

Simply saying in the deafened condition that casting spells at all when deafened causes a flat DC 5 check is not out of the realm of possibility.

The front runner scenario is that the exact actions (talking, waggling your fingers) and manifestations (glowing runes around your hand) will either be defined in a general "cast a spell" activity, or perhaps be defined specifically for each class.

yeah, my vote is on them being on individual spellcasting features.

like wizards having to chant, while psychics get to have meditate or something along those lines.

Dark Archive

I would've REALLY appreciate an update on this in the core preview or Rage of Elements, given all the water and/or breathing related
stuff in the latter book.

I think for now you just gotta keep using the old rules. You know what spell trait corresponded to verbal components before. Treat them the same.
