Can the Cavalier archetype work okay for Thaumaturges, or is Thaumaturge's action economy too fiddly to accommodate a mount?

The mount drives itself at 4+ so there shouldn't be any action economy problems.

But I would ask the question, what benefit do you expect to gain from using a mount?

While the mount can become free movement by taking the dedication and impressive mount archetype feat, it essentially costs you two class feats and locks you out of another dedication unless you take a 3rd. Perhaps it's worth it to you, but I don't think it's automatically a great idea.

To be truthful, I'm not too concerned if it's automatically a great idea, I'm more worried about it being automatically a BAD idea...

It's only 2 class feats and a skill feat. Allows you to grab another dedication at 6 before being forced into nimble companion at 8 for scaling.

It's not automatically a bad idea, but animal companions, even just as mounts, need an annoyingly high feat investment to not pop when looked at funny. All that for a semi-permanent haste with decorum and ceiling restrictions and that can be killed off for a week.

Decorum?! The mount I'm eyeing is an augdunar, decorum isn't in those mules' vocabulary! :P
