Prosthetic limbs

Can prosthetic limbs in starfinder feel with touch?

Give that the rules don't say anything about prosthetic limbs having such a limit, and the setting tech level would easily support prosthetic limbs not having such a limit? They don't have such a limit.

from the CBR page 210

"This prosthesis replaces a missing limb. It restores functionality, but it is no more durable than and doesn’t otherwise function differently than a normal limb for your species. A prosthetic limb can replace one you’ve lost, or you can have a limb removed in order to replace it with a prosthetic."

Touch would qualify as functionality, and functioning as a normal limb.

I like that they go out of their way to let you know you don't have to wait for an accident or lose a limb in combat, you can get rid of limbs whenever you chose.

In many sci-fi settings, prosthetics define a person like tattoos or jewelry. Furthermore, many of these can be enhanced with hidden tools and weapons. Finally, it's almost inexpensive... and many religions value cybernetics.

On topic, I think they restore touch and sensation, but not pain itself. If your prosthetic arm is getting dissolved by acid due to a dripping pipe, you need to feel it, or else you'll find yourself missing an arm without warning. You don't need to feel like it hurts, only that it's getting eaten away ^^;

I was trying to think of reasons to get a prosthetic limb to replace a good limb. The only option available for them is the storage version. I'm not sure if RAW allows for adding Cybernetics to prosthetics such as the Society Subdermal Graft. There would be no reason to get Prosthetic Limb, Storage for 1450 credits if you could add the Hideaway Limb, Standard for only 150 credits if the RAW allowed for prosthetic limbs getting cybernetics. Could a prosthetic limb get other types of augmentation? That could be considered a function of a normal limb.

Having a prosthetic limb as a cyberpunk or religious statement makes sense, but in doing so, you might want it to be more visibly noticeable.
Cosmetically I don't see any reason they couldn't be any color you like or be tattooed. They could be a way to change tattoos frequently by switching out prosthetic limbs, but that costs credits and takes a trained surgeon an hour to do.

A good limb may not be "good enough", or a prosthetic may be "better" than its organic counterpart ;)

ALSO, a prosthetic limb and a cybernetic limb are kinda interchangeable. If you lost an arm, nothing prevents you from getting one over the other, aside from resources.

FINALLY, there are the whole philosophical, psychological and medical aspects, and maybe a prosthetic is temporary while waiting for a Regeneration effect. However, most of the patients tend to... grow attached to these and decided to keep and further augment them.

See it like Cyberpunk 2077 & Edgerunner: they have TONS of cybernetic implants and limbs, but overall, it's to greatly enhance their bodies, not to replace them.

On a sidenote, if a NPC loaded with cybernetics is annoying you, just cast Regenerate on them, and watch as each of them falls down as the organic body parts push everything outward XDD

That's funny and harsh at the same time. It all almost needs to be a separate spell called baleful Regeneration. But it can take 2d10 rounds, so only useful in combat on a very lucky roll.
