The new ORC agreement seems to be generating a lot of interest in Pathfinder 2nd Edition from the 5E crowd. Is anyone planning any events to welcome new players or teach PF2? I was considering this, but we have Con of the North in a month, and maybe that will serve as our place to welcome newcomers.
What are you all doing?

I'm hoping to get more players at The Wizard's Chest in downtown Denver. Every 1st & 3rd Sunday of each month is our PFS game day.
It's been slow going the past couple years. I'm lucky if I get 4 players. Hopefully it will pick up with an influx of new players.

Last weekend I had 3 new player sit down at my tables.
Two of the players are employees of the FLGS we run at and now I am in the process of setting up Beginner Boxes day in February, running a beginners only Second Confirmation run to introduce them to Society, and finally hosting a Character Creation day where experienced GMs and players will help answer questions they may have creating society legal characters.

3 of 4 are usually regular players. I've been at Wizard's Chest for 4 years and other locations before that. Been a VA for 11 years.
Been advertising on www.rockymountainpfs.com for over a decade.

Its only a hinderance if you let it be. I have multiple players that are 45 minutes from our store, and one is about 75 minutes away. I've driven an hour each way to game on a weeknight in the past.

Lack of a car and gas prices can make that kind of distance a bit much

Yeah, not having your own vehicle definitely limits your gaming choices. I have been lucky enough to be catching rides with friends to OrgPlay games for the past 7 years or so.
So... looking at our most recent event, I have 4 brand new people who have come over from 5E to try us out. It's a definite influx, and our tables were full before this.

Since 2nd edition started there hasn't been any PFS going on here in Delaware that I can find. I drive up to West Chester PA for a monthly game and that had been averaging only three or four players each time. This last weekend we had a bunch of new players show up and had both a full table of six and a second table of five. It was a wonderful day. Everyone that I've talked to that is switching from 5E really likes how PF 2E plays.

On January 15th, we added two extra tables and had nine new players and a tenth player who had an Organized Play number and showed up for Starfinder. Ironically, we had previously scheduled a Pathfinder Society character creation session in the morning and added one in the afternoon.
Our next event is February 5th. Of 6 tables, 3 are full, one is almost full, while two others have room for players. We have a morning and afternoon Pathfinder character creation session.
Fortunately, one new player is interested in GMing in the future.
I may have to break down and get a copy of the Beginner Box. All but one member of my gaming group has a copy of the PF2 Core Rules, although there are some who are daunted by the complexity of PF2. A simplified version of the PF2 rules might be a good starting point for my group, if that is what the Beginner Box offers.

As a lifelong RPG player, having started with the Basic D&D box set in '82 and having played every edition of D&D and not a few non-D&D RPGs since, who received P2e for Christmas; I sit here reading this thread a month after its posting and wondering "so where is all the new-player, OGL-refugee welcoming effort?
I mean - I have my PFS number, but the closest recorded lodge is over 2 hours away and hasn't responded to my attempted contacts. It makes me wonder if they simply went dark during the pandemic and are now defunct. The few organized play games I find for Feb/March are states away.
It seems that it should be as simple as "Thank you for your order, newb. Now go _here_ to create a Pathfinder Society identity, then go _here_ to locate the closest local lodge. And look _here_ to find the next Organized Play event near you. Welcome to the Society, recruit. See you ate the table."

I joined PFS Play by Post during the pandemic. We're very welcoming to new players.

As the others stated reach out to the local FVC. I know that lodges are re growing with Pandemic but there is a huge surge. What area do you live near? We may know other VOs to reach out to. I don’t know if you have been able to Google Pathfinder Society in your area but after a situation in my life I did & found. We use Meet-up in the NoVA & DC area as well work with the Baltimore Meet-up.

A lot of tables do not end up getting listed on Paizo.com (for a mix of reasons) and many communities use https://warhorn.net/ to promote and find tables.
As other venture officers listed above, some areas use tools like meetup of other forums to promote their sessions.(Have tried to reach out to someone from your region, and pointed them towards this post)

Welcome to the Pathfinder side of the pond, newb! DM me with your location and I'll be happy to help you find some Society games in your local area. Also, if you are interested in playing online games, whether live games via Virtual Table top (VTT) or via Play by Post (PBP) we have a thriving community both here on the paizo servers and on a number of Discord lodges. Again, I'd be happy to help point you in the right direction if you are interested.
I apologize that it isn't as easy to hook new Society players up with local lodges as it should be. That has been a long-standing issue that we are starting (I hope) to come to grips with. We have to strike a balance between accessibility and privacy issues and so far have managed to come down hard on the privacy side of things. I would love to hear some suggestions, if you have them, on how to help our volunteers be more accessible for new players.
In the meantime, please DM me here on the forums, or via discord (bigrin42#2231) and 'll be happy to do what I can to get you connected in Real Life and/or online.

P.S. I know it's easy for those of us that have been involved in Society for a long time to say how open and friendly we are, and then leave newcomers in the lurch when it comes to details. I hope anyone with issues getting started or connected with Society games will call out for help and get connected with a Venture Officer who can guide and direct. After all, we're supposed to be a community of gamers, and what's better for community than welcoming growth?
