Bottled oozes: are other oozes prey?

Rules Questions

Hmm not sure if this qualifies as a rules question, it may be purely at DM direction, but here goes. When using the bottled ooze discovery, the summons aren’t under your control. The oozes will, presumably, just act as oozes do.

How do multiple summoned oozes interact with each other? I’m guessing that if they are the same “specie” they’ll ignore each other. But if i summon say a tar jelly and a gelatinous cube, will they attack each other or ignore each other and attack other less ooze-like and more meat-like creatures nearby?

In less weird play, will my summoned ooze be any good in attacking a wild enemy ooze? In essence, do oozes see other oozes as prey?

Liberty's Edge

Several oozes use acid to attack and several are immune to acid, from what I recall. So those probably don't see each other as prey. Most of the other oozes will probably try to eat each other without a problem.

I agree with Diego.

Uncontrolled Oozes should work with 1 line of 'thought':
"Can I eat it?" (and not 'should i eat it').

if it can eat the floor, doors or Furnitures -it would.
if it can eat what ever oozing next to it - it would.
even oozes of the same kind should attack each other if they can.

Bottled Ooze, Alchemist Extract Discovery the Alchemist throws the bottle at "a square within 30 feet, releasing the ooze, which reconstitutes and attacks the closest creature." Seems pretty straight forward. Don't drop the bottle.

I'll note that most ooze types are mindless (and blind along with other things - see the ooze type) and therefore impossible to command using Summon Monster spells. Normally summoned critters attack your foes so there might be some play if a casters wrests 'control' from the Alchemist via spells.

Thanks all. I'll suggest to the DM that they basically attack whatever is closet at anytime, period.

Maybe with one exception, I would still argue that if they are the same specie they wouldn't attack each other. After all, when an ooze splits, from attacks or from feeding, they don't immediately turn around and start trying to eat each other, they go after the dungeoneer.

I see Azothath's point about the discovery description though

Most animals fight for dominance among their own species. You see this behavior in mating, control of territory, etc. I'd say time for some ooze-on-ooze action! ;^o

who ooze, we ooze, we all ooze for ooze on ooze!

That's a slimy fluid, but that's not ooze...
