"Phase Step" and "Dimensional Agility / Assault / Dervish"?

Rules Questions

Forgive me if this is obvious, I couodn't find a preexisting thread on this and I can't quite remember the rules.

Can you use Dimensional Agility/Assault/Dervish with the Phase Step spell instead of Dimension Door?

I ask because Phase Step is a lower level spell, but it has the text: "This otherwise functions as the spell dimension door, except ..."

PHASE STEP (below Dimension Door)

DIMENSIONAL AGILITY, DIMENSIONAL ASSAULT, DIMENSIONAL DERVISH

It depends what you mean by 'you'. If you mean 'can a subject of Phase Step use their own Dimensional X feats?', I would allow it. Yes, technically the feats indicate it is the caster who benefits but if someone has invested in these feats I think they should apply any time they are subject to DD-like effects. Not RAW but not in any way game breaking that I can see and it makes for happier players.

If you mean 'can the subject of Phase Step benefit from the caster's Dimensional X feat chain?' I would not allow it. The feats are specific training to learn how to maximize short-range teleportation and you can't use someone else's training.

by raw? no

i have to agree, RAW it doesn't work. 'Function as' isn't the same is being the same for requirements.
you can't use phase step to craft an item that ask for dimension door spell. you can't use it instead of it here ether. the feat ask for very specific things. not "any dimension door-like ability"

as a gm? i might let it slide, but only because i think some of the feat tax in pathfinder can use cutting down\more flexibility. feats are rare resources as is and making them harder to get and work with is no fun.

Thanks team.

I couldn't remember what the limits of "otherwise functions as" were, but that seems perfectly reasonable.
