Pathfinder Second Edition General Discussion

Ask, share, and discuss. This is a place for people to give nice, short, evocative descriptions of what they see as concepts that really describe what various classes/archetypes are about, or, alternately, to say "what is up with those people, anyway?" Feel free to include both classes that are already published and classes that you hope/expect to see out some day.

For me?

- Van Helsing from the 2004 film

I have two rogues in my campaign, so I see two sides of the class, thief racket and scoundrel racket. I suppose each racket provides a different side, but I am familiar with those two.

The Criminal-background gnome Binny is the thief-racket rogue. She is a sniper. She hides and shoots from hiding. Her feats Terain Stalker and Quiet Allies are built around stealth. If Binny were a character in a movie, she would seldom be seen on-screen. Instead, she would appear at the side of a teammate, provide assistance, and vanish again like Batman.

The Animal-Whisperer-background halfling Sam is the scoundrel-racket rogue. He is a magical trickster, taking Sorcerer Dedication at 2nd level and Magical Trickster at 4th level, but he is mostly a liar. He has a long-running ruse that he is really a fey rather than a halfling. The opposite side of his lying is he also recognizes lies, too, so no-one can fool him. If Sam were a character in a movie, he would be the con-man talking his way into situations with a different lie each time. Even his teammates don't know the truth like with Remington Steele.

Inquisitor:
Salim Ghadafar : an atheist warrior forced to solve problems for the goddess of death, to track down the missing souls.

Medium: Koyomi Araragi from Monogatari. "Find spirits that are behaving in unhealthy ways, and help them with their problems until they are no longer behaving in unhealthy ways" is so totally a "Medium" thing.

I was thinking about making a very similar thread directly inspired by Nonat's recent Smash Bros video. Haven't gone through every character just yet, but here are two:

  • Link strikes me as a Champion/Fighter. I'm not quite sure which one I would make the main Class here, but it does bring up an interesting flavor idea in that not all Champions choose to be one; but maybe a Deity chooses their Champion. It seems like the Goddess' chose Link, rather than the other way around, and he just naturally follows through. This likely makes him a Fighter first and Champion second actually. Master Sword is clearly his Blade Ally and Epona his Steed Ally. I also would give him Soulforger as well, for no other reason than to give him the ability to summon a special bow for his Final Smash.
EDIT: As a note: I feel like he would follow a Pantheon dedicated to Iomedae (Courage), Pharasma (Wisdom), and Sarenrae (Power).

  • Samus I feel is an Inventor with the Bounty Hunter & Sentinel Archetypes. I say this, despite her not being the actual Inventor of her Power Suit; but her reliance on its abilities and upgrades seems more fitting to the Inventors style of play. It's hard to say what exactly her Innovation would be here. I'd argue it's her Power Suit (Armor), but her Power Beam (Weapon) plays just as much a role I feel. Unfortunately you can't have two atm. I think an argument could possible be made for her to be a (Space) Ranger. She protects the galaxy, but I feel that is more a result of her duty as a bounty hunter than actively seeking to protect it. I could be wrong.

EDIT: You know who is a Space Ranger though? Buzz Lightyear of Star Command.
