So... Is anyone out there interested in playing FFD20?
Is based on Pathfinder so it pretty intuitive IMO
I'm interested as a player but may run a game if there's no other GM and enough interest.

Sebecloki is actually drumming up interest Here for a steampunk-themed game that might be using them. It lacks player interest, so if it sounds good to you sound off.
I am, as always, interested in anything suitably cool sounding.

There definitely is interest on the forum for it, last year, there was an interest check that drummed up a decent amount of interest but the DM disappeared, and then there was an Eberron game that recruited in FFd20 if I recall correct?

Alright, I'll make a recruitment thread :)
I however will need to first write down and sort the ideas that I've for the setting and all those details but before that...
What kind of game would you like? I can offer you two options:
•Urban -Final- Fantasy: Everything happens in a big city, the plot won't be as overarching like those of FFIX, FFVII, FFIII or FFIV but more akin to FFXII where you fight to save your city/Kingdom rather than the world or the universe, it will also allow for more intrigue and social encounters, NPC will be recurring as you always are in the same city for most of the time, it will also be more slow and laid-back since there isn't a ever present threat or enemy, most problems happens because you look for them and so on, obviously as the heroes you'll get into all sort of these.
•On the Road: there's something to do at certain place and you must travel there, and for some plot reason you must first visit other places and each of them have a dungeon and possibly a boss, this is more like the first final Fantasy games, you know that you must travel to the crystals to get new jobs and save the world or FFIX that there's a pilgrimage to do in order to obtain some Magic to defeat the bad guys, somewhat rail road and also time matters because the bad guys are doing bad things meanwhile, this involves much more travel, battle and dungeon crawl and less social encounters, intrigue is unlikely and you probably will end up saving the whole world if not the universe! So yeah, it's more epic.

Both options appeal to me as I've played many FF games in the past. I can't say I'm 100% up on the lore. I would lean toward the second option, but with definite contact with cities and probably a bit of the first. Sort of like in some FF games there is a central location the characters consider "home", but we end up going all over the world and beyond.

I am so up for this.
I would lean towards the second option more but maybe working in some areas that are m ore urban as well. Some intrigue would be a very good thing but as long as there is a good variety of encounters I think it can be made to work out somehow.

Quick update, I've sorted a few things but I just bought a new phone and am getting used to it.
So far I'm thinking about a mix of the options that I offered, you travel from place to place as in option 2 BUT you do do in a big airship of sorts which is big enough to be a town of it's own, somewhat like the Freya mobile fortress from god eater 2.
Thoughts?

Like in the games you'll eventually need to upgrade the ship in order to advance the plot :)
Such upgrades will often be looking for certain material on a dungeon or perhaps win it in an auction, steal it or something like that, many quests will happen just to allow you to move forward on the main story.

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Well, I haven't really sorted everything and starting unprepared would be very unprofessional so I'll take my time to get this ready and then create a recruitment thread.
Meanwhile you guys can throw me any ideas, questions or concerns, answering those will likely help me to fill the many holes of the ideas that I'm trying to put together
Monkeygod
I'm still very much interested in this. Just been a bit busy helping with the high level mythic game that's also recruiting.
While I really want to play a Red Mage who takes levels in the Ruby Magister PrC, there's several other concepts I could play as well.
One important question to consider for recruitment: Would we be making use of the sub-job system? I think that's the name of the lesser gestalt FF uses.

There certainly is magitek and yes the ship will have magitek engines and such, the crystal from your home town is not really aligned with any element, basically people has been using it to fuel magitek, now someone must travel to the other crystals to rekindle the light of the main one.
Or something along those lines o.oU
You also come from a floating continent/island like in FF3, it's big enough to have most core and base races but not that big, I'm still working on it's places and geography, gotta have at least two big cities IMO

MAGITEK ARMOR! IMMA FIRIN MY LAZOOOOOOR BLAAAAAARGH
I swear to god if the first thing we face is a giant lightning snail I will repave the roads in your hometown with randomly spaced, misshapen speedbumps and then sneak into yours and your neighbors houses, steal all your car keys, shake them up in a bag and then give you each a random one!
Drogeney
I was working on a bare bones character sheet just filling in the class abilities and things and boy did they rework the Magitek Armor. I'm still planning to do it but they took alot of options away on what you could build with it. Kind of a shame but certainly makes it easier to work with.

Here is a link that Cuan pointed out exists in a previous FF game that didn't get off the ground. It includes Subjobs, something that used to be on the main page of FFD20 and is now archived.
I didn't know if you wanted to include that or maybe gestalt in your character creation rules. Here is the link for gestalt.
