Meta magic

If you use meta magic with a sustained spell..does the sustained spell keeps the meta magic ability?

Can you give us an example ? There are really many metamagic feats.

One example I found : Reach spell + Spiritual Weapon.

Reach spell changes the Spiritual Weapon's range to 150 ft. Range is a parameter of the spell when it is cast. And I don't see anything saying it would revert back to a range of 120ft when sustained.

Bane and reach are the ones I'm thinking of...

You can't use Reach Spell on Bane since it doesn't have a range.

Bane also isn't a sustained spell...

Widen Spell also doesn't interact with Bane/Bless because Widen Spell doesn't work on emanation spells and Bane/Bless does have a duration - even though the duration is not 'sustained'.

How about an example of Sanguine Mist which has Range: 60ft and Area: 10ft burst. Interacting with Reach Spell and Widen Spell.

Reach Spell would increase the range to 90ft. Once it has been cast to that location, sustaining the spell has no range listed. So I expect that there would be no problems sustaining the spell even if I moved farther than the 90 feet away from the spell effect.

Widen Spell would cast the spell with a burst area of 15 feet instead of 10 feet. I don't have Widen Spell metamagic so I haven't tried this personally. But I expect that sustaining the spell would keep all of its current effect going - including the increased area.

Wait: Widen Spell wouldn't work since the spell does have a duration. Like I said, I don't actually use this metamagic.

Hello, I can see Why bane and bless are excempt with not having range, but an area instead. How would the spell shield others work, it has range of 30, but specifically state if the target of the spell not within 30 then the spell ends. Should this be extended to the range of the spell when it cast?

No. Because the text does not refer the Range of the spell. So it does not change.
